The George Hotel is a 17th Century townhouse enjoying a wonderful location nestling on the water’s edge between the castle and pier in the bustling harbour town of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. This magnificent building is steeped in history and was once home to the most noteworthy of the Island’s Governors, Sir Robert Holmes who often entertained King Charles II. Today the country house interior with its sweeping staircase, ancient panelling, uneven floors and stone flags is complemented by smart contemporary flourishes. The 17 bedrooms are individually designed, many with spectacular views of the Solent or the vibrant harbour.

We stayed for 3 nights and were lucky to be given a wonderful room upgrade with fabulous sea views. The staff were very friendly, relaxed and service was good without being stuffy. Our food was some of the best we've eaten for a while, even the limited menu on a Monday and Tuesday was delicious. The Christmas decorations are beautiful, everything you'd want for the perfect Christmas break especially with the open fires and cosy lounges. A great break, thanks all.

We’re regulars to Yarmouth as we sail there, but have never stayed in The George until last weekend. What a gem! A historic and beautiful hotel that feels very relaxed and very natural in all respects. The staff made us feel extremely welcome and couldn’t do enough to make our experience great. I’m Coeliac and was extremely well catered for by knowledgeable and really helpful staff, who clearly take pride in what they do. We have a dog who was made very welcome and allowed to stay there with us. We will most definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely short stay!

Came for a meal with some family and friends. New menu is amazing! Waldorf salad was out of this world, and the roast beef was exactly what I needed, best part was the massive Yorkshire puddings! The staff are amazing as ever! Can’t wait to go back!

This place has been rated as on 1* for food hygiene this week. You might want to take that into account before booking. It’s previously had a poor rating also. I’m not sure that I would want to eat here anymore.

We stayed here for three nights in a sea view double room 24, the hotel amenities were excellent though we did find the bed a tad uncomfortable due to the lean in the floor but that cannot be helped in a 17th century coaching inn. Staff from the hotel receptionist to the chambermaid were all excellent and could not do enough for you. Breakfasts were very hearty indeed and served hot which is a rarity in hotels these days. We dined on one night in the restaurant and we found the food to be over our expectations and would like to thank the kitchen staff from chefs to kip. Wee would definitely stay here again.
