We arrived here while doing the round the island walk. Firstly the positive, When we arrived, the owner was pleasant and, as the room assigned to us wasn't ready and there were other rooms free, let us have the bigger room with a sofa and an en suite. The other positive is the breakfast but as that is provided by the Bugle just along the square then this is not really in Harvey's control and they were only expecting us because we checked the night before. The communal areas are horrendous, there is a lot of building work still to do, bare wires and bits of flooring that need to be finished. The arrival was chaotic, there is a door with a bell and a phone number, neither were answered. Fortunately the shop underneath had someone who was able to help us. Despite the room upgrade, this was a room that the ceiling light did not work and the en-suite was only superficially clean. I would not stay here again, oh yes and the diary in the communal area has the bookings with customers phone numbers in it. I did mention when we left on the note saying about the light that this is not really GDPR compliant.…
Lovely B&B in the middle of Yarmouth within easy walking distance of the ferry, marina and pubs. A warm welcome from our friendly landlady Emma and a very comfortable room. Great breakfast round the corner at the Bugle. If eating out on a Saturday night book your restaurant early as the best ones get very busy. Thoroughly recommended.
Attributes are spacious room off main square with good ventilation . However bed was very old and hence lumpy / un comfortable . More particularly shower cubicle had much mould and four or five tiles were detaching from the wall .The remaining bathroom area was minute with just a tiny hand wash basin . Owner management acknowledged it needed investment but that seems unlikely this year
We stayed at Harvey's for one night and were very disappointed. Firstly the lady who runs the B&B didn't introduce herself and was quite grumpy. We were shown to our room which was in desperate need of an update, new bed linen and towels required. Breakfast is served at The Bugle and was great. Yarmouth is short of B&B's so it seems that there is no pressure to improve.
Clean room tired bed and linen and furniture. Steep staircase to rooms and steps with split tread needs a repair. Breakfast available inthe bugle pub next door. Have stayed there before and found rooms more comfortable. Shame Harvey's loses revenue as there is a small dining room .
This is a difficult review to write, because I normally only write positive reviews. However, we were encouraged to book rooms here after reading good reviews and I think other potential guests should have an honest opinion before deciding to stay at Harvey's. I cannot speak for the rooms in the main building, which may have been perfectly fine, but we were put in an annexe which was accessed via a steep metal fire escape stairway. The first problem occurred because there was no-one in the shop below to show us our rooms. We spent some time going through the main building looking for rooms 5 and 6, and even a member of staff didn't know where they were. Eventually, we found the door (tricky lock) and entered our room; the door opened rather worryingly onto the bathroom - basin to the left, loo to the right, with the bedroom beyond that. The bedroom itself was fine, comfy bed and good quality bedding. But there was no hot water in the basin tap, the shower controls didn't work, so the temperature went from scalding to freezing and back again. My sister's toilet was not attached to the wall securely. The owner had told me on the phone earlier that morning that he wouldn't be around, and had no housekeeper at the moment so breakfast would be taken at The Bugle pub along the road. When we arrived the waitress was not happy to see us 'We keep getting guests we are not expecting' she said. We were left for a long time, scrambled eggs were burned, no cereals or juices were offered, and we left feeling rather dissatisfied with our bed and breakfast experience. We paid £135 for 2 rooms for one night and were unable to discuss this with the owner as he was not there. I did write to him immediately afterwards to give him the opportunity to respond to our concerns, and he did refund £20 for the poor breakfast experience, but I did say that for this money we normally have a memorable stay - this was truly memorable but not in the right way.…
Don't be put off with the B&B being over the shop and narrow staircase. Stayed 1 night only whilst on a sailing trip. The host, Sarah, was very friendly and accommodating - she met me at the B&B earlier than planned as we had come off the boat early and charged me only a small sole occupancy charge for taking a twin room. Comfortable room with en-suite, TV and tea making facilities and good hearty breakfast. Would definitely re-book.
Excellent accommodation, very relaxed and friendly hostess, excellent room and very good breakfast. Based in the square in the middle of Yarmouth within walking distance of the ferry terminal. Good restaurants only 5 minutes walk away.
First floor rooms over shop of same name up awkward stairs. Our room was small with no more than adequate furnishings and a small en suite bathroom with noisy pumped toilet. Room faced street with early morning vehicle unloading noise. Friendly staff and acceptable breakfast. This is all just ok for the price but only just.
I love staying here and have the same room every time. It is spacious, bright and very comfortable and looks out over the square so there is always something to watch in this delightful haven. I always get a great welcome from Sarah on arrival and I really enjoy her very warm hospitality and delicious breakfasts. On Easter Sunday all the guests received an Easter egg which was a lovely touch. The rates are very reasonable, the place is spotlessly clean and I have the freedom to come and go as I please. Full marks for perfect accommodation in my favourite location
