Had an afternoon tea for a group of family members to celebrate my mother-in-laws 90th birthday. Staff could not have been more accommodating. They were all so helpful and made the afternoon a great success. The afternoon tea was plentiful with great selection both sweet and savoury. Many thanks
We used to visit the Highdown when walking Tennyson Down and continued to be regular visitors when we lived on the Island and now when we return as visitors once again the beer is still well kept and the food is exceptional. The Haddock and chips has the crispiest batter ever and is absolutely enormous! The salmon fillet served on bed of ratatouille is much more manageable and packed with flavour.
Not sure if there are two different places for reviews of the same place on Tripadvisor as my previous review is not shown here. However, did this same review 2 days ago. Arrived at 1800hrs and surprised to see how busy the Inn was. We were shown to a small table in the corner of the bar adjacent to the fireplace. The service by the staff was pleasant and courteous. Confused by the burger description shown on the specials board and on the plastic menu on the table. Both confirmed to be the same item! Food quickly arrived , then the problem happened! Cutting through the burger was a struggle and on turning the burger upside down the problem was clear. Not only was the burger grossly overcooked but it was burnt and black and had obviously been overcooked to a state of cremation. The inside of the burger was hard and was totally inedible I reported the problem to the lady at the bar and she offered to have another burger cooked. The offer was declined as the rest of our party were already halfway through their meals and I would have to wait for my food to be cooked and I also had no confidence in a cook who had a problem cooking a burger. The lady behind the bar courteously said that she would not charge me for the burger. the rest of the party ate their meals, paid the bill and promptly left…
The food was fantastic..we had gurnard gujons and tian of crab and avacado followed by a beautifully cooked seabass and a proper deep filled short crust pie. Very happy. The service was spot on: attentive without being too much.
Whenever we visit the Island we have stopped at this pub for a drink. We decided to eat this time, the food was really tasty. Squid rings for starters and Duck for main. Very tasty and staff were nice and friendly. Highly recommend.
