We stayed for two separate nights at the beginning and end of our walk on the Isle of Wight Coastal Path booked through a walking company. The hotel is in need of some tlc the first indication is the threadbare stair carpet. The two rooms could really do with a thorough cleaning, you wouldn't walk around without your shoes! Breakfasts on both occasions were poor. The first time we were kept waiting for over 30 minutes because there was no chef. The second time the plates were all dirty and taking one look at the offerings under the hot plates for the cooked food we decided it was safer to stick with toast.

We have now stayed at Yelf’s hotel 4 or 5 times over the years and cannot fault it. All rooms offer en-suite facilities and are cleaned daily. The food is good so is the hospitality. Breakfast can either be cereals / toast or full English with tea or coffee. The bar area is calm and relaxed with a decent selection of ales, lagers, spirits and wines. Situated near the top of Union St in Ryde the hotel is quite extensive spread over 2 or 3 floors with each room offering comfort and a decent base to explore the IOW. The roast beef on Sundays is exceptional! From the hotel you have easy access to the shops, restaurants and other bars in the local area. What we like about Yelf’s is that it feels warm and friendly with the personal touch more so than a functional and clinical Travel Lodge. Staff will bend over backwards to help you with nothing too much bother. All in all highly recommended for anyone visiting the island.

My family visited Yelfs on Friday 18 March 2022 for an afternoon tea birthday celebration. The sandwiches and cakes were beautifully presented and delicious. There was plenty of tea and coffee and refills were no problem. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Superb value for money as well. A big thank you to the team at Yelfs.
