This traditional hotel is situated in a beautiful but slightly remote location - great for the bay and the walk to the needles , but worth it to take the meal plan as no other restaurants nearby.This was very very good indeed although not a huge choice of menu options for dinner, we always found it very well presented and enjoyed it - you can’t go wrong with the cooked breakfast and the choice of meat or fish or vegan for dinner. We think Covid had limited the options . The room we had ( sea view double ) was a good size and the bathroom was huge .we sat on the balcony was beautiful to see sunsets and hear the sea. The room was very clean too. Reception explained that with Covid we would have to request towels changed or beds made ,the night prior but they would replenish tea and coffee daily . This was fine for us as we were a 3 night stay . The hotel did have a lift and in general staff were exceptional but they were short of staff , hence often the bar was unmanned which stopped us buying drinks in the evening after dinner. Assume Covid related also . We did use the pool which was very clean and nice if a little small but would be great for a family swim . The jacuzzi temperature was cold though so not much fun to sit in. The hotel arranged the ferry at a reduced rate as we booked direct which was nice .

We really enjoyed our two night stay at this hotel generally . Great location with a balcony overlooking the bay . Large fairly standard room , linen and towels smelt amazing and bathroom spotless . My only complaint was that the package deal they offered ( £30 per person per day for breakfast and lunch ) was only available for the whole duration of your visit or not at all ,! After some discussion ( this would have cost us £120 ) we decided to opt for this , only to be told they were fully booked . It worked out okay and gave us more flexibility as we had a reasonably priced curry in the town , fish and chips on the beach by moonlight , and breakfast bits from Sainsbury's ( at this point a fridge in room would have been great for the smoothies and fruit pots ) for the grand sum of £50 !!, Overall a great stay and staff were helpful and obliging .

Good: Fantastic location, right on the beach, with good views. Large room with comfortable beds. Generally clean, but only minimal servicing - bins and tea tray. Beds not made and towels not changed unless you request before 10am. Large bathroom with good plumbing. The bathroom was so large that the resident spider remained undisturbed for the entire week! Nice indoor pool with clean changing rooms although spa not in operation (Covid-19). Bad: External appearance not up the expectations given by the website. Very tired and scruffy up close, with no clear indication where the entrance is. Reception uninspiring. We requested a sea view with balcony, which is what we got. Unfortunately the balcony was scruffy, with rusty railings and broken, uneven, dirty tiles. The balcony/terrace is completely open to use by others with no separation or barriers. Some staff unkempt to the point of being scruffy. No uniform appearance. It would appear that some had received minimal training, if any, on how to communicate with customers. Food is either Half Board or nothing. No Bed & Breakfast option. This is apparently due to COVID-19 and the need to dedicate a table for the duration of stay. Seems a con to me as there were plenty of unused tables. Very expensive for bland, uninspired menus. The breakfast menu was unchanged throughout the week. No choice of fruit juice, only orange. Choice of cereals. Kippers! The usual Full English. Toast. No yoghurt, fresh fruit or croissants available. Evening meal menus are rotated on a weekly basis. Every meal starts with Chilled Melon and Soup of the Day. A Pasta dish. Main course which is basic and uninspired. A choice of two sweets. We ate out several nights and had better food for similar prices, including drinks. If staying at this time, I would recommend taking breakfast cereal, milk and fruit juice to eat in the room and take other meals at the many restaurants or pubs on the island which offer better choice, value and service. Unfortunately there is no refrigerator in the room. The bar and lounge areas are down-at-heel and old fashioned. Hardly used by residents. As for the ‘Free WiFi’, it is a joke. Even the staff say they can’t get on the internet with it. Usually two bars showing on the WiFi symbol, but it just doesn’t work. Overall, the hotel needs massive investment in decor and some professional advice on staff training and catering to drag it from the 1970s into the 21st century.

The Receptionist on arrival required my photo ID which I’ve never heard of. Balcony had loads of cobwebs, spiders, algae and rust and the view of the terrace from there showed dead plants in pots. Wasn’t told anything about the amenities, etc on arrival and there was no information in the room either. You don’t have your room or bathroom cleaned unless you ask reception - they blame COVID of course. One evening we couldn’t find the barman or Receptionist so we gave up on having a drink in the completely empty lounge and went to bed. We didn’t eat there as you have to pay for breakfast and dinner which is ridiculous. Found the door locked at 9pm, nobody in Reception as usual so went in the lifts but couldn’t find the way to our room as there are absolutely no signs anywhere for anything! Eventually found a Receptionist (I think there are two who split the job between them) and was told how to get back using the stairs as there isn’t a lift. It’s like going back to the 80s for decor and I could see where moths had eaten the carpet in the bar! I feel this Hotel needs loads more trained staff, updating, signage, more information written down, better meal choices and to charge half what they do. I paid £196 a night but I don’t really know what for!

I am sad to write this review. My partner and I took our teenagers away for the weekend to what looked like a fabulous hotel in a fantastic location. Sadly, the hotel, although the location was stunning was severely run down and lacking in staff. They have a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea, but you'r not allowed to use it. This meant there is NOWHERE to sit outside on the property. Not what I would expect for our £400 a night. The pool was great, and it is for that I have given it 2 stars. Mike was our saving grace. He seemed to do everything, reception, bar, phone...... There was no fridge in the room, which was a pain and the decor is seriously in need of updating. The balcony was filthy and the kettle had seen better days. The beds were comfy and clean though and the bathroom was huge. Its it such a shame, it really needs some TLC and it could be as good as it deserves to be.

Starting with the positives, the location is amazing, right on the beach. Some staff were lovely, notably Leigh and it has an inside pool so kids can swim whatever the weather (but jacuzzi is cold and no sauna, just a hole in the wall). The negatives - tired, tired, tired hotel inside and out charging crazy high prices for the service. Everything is dated, and threadbare in places. It seems the staff rotate through every position (waiter/waitress one day, room cleaner the next, kitchen porter the day after) meaning no-one is expert at any role and mediocrity infects everything. Rooms are large but tired - fixtures and fittings old, toilets hard to flush, tiles broken outside on the large terrace, spiders webs in reception etc. Random prior guest's forgotten socks under beds (in 2 different rooms). The food was below average, and that is hard to do. Zero flex in breakfast items and a bland dinner menu - Meat and 2 veg as my parents would say, with Melon as a starter for every meal and 90GBP for 2 adults and 2 kids !! At breakfast you can have cereal and a hot breakfast. But it is filter coffee, weak tea and disintegrating scrambled eggs (packet mix maybe). At breakfast you are offered Orange juice which is poured from a small jug (after being decanted from a large carton). Can you keep the jug on the table to refill yourself - No. Can you have apple juice instead - No. Can you have a latte or cappucino - No. It took us 30 minutes 1 day to get toast with our breakfast, and it was cold. Always cold toast, like they have a 2 slot toaster for a hotel kitchen. At dinner, despite being a hotel guest you have to pay for your drinks when they are brought to your table (if they can get the credit card machine to work with the slow wifi). Not after the meal once kids have had a few soft drinks, or adults want a G&T or two....nope, each time you ask for a drink you are presented with a card machine. Room cleaning - we were told on check-in that room cleaning was deliberately sparse for Covid reasons (despite being paid for), but beds can be made and room hoovered 'if you REALLY want it' each day, just ask before 10am each day. I agree with the sentiment of safety, the application and rationale were very poor (Issues with the tube lines in London - What ? See image of letter). We asked on day 1 for cleaning each day, but after it not happening on day 2 we had to re-ask and were felt to feel like a nuisance ! The whole thing felt like a joke, and would have been funny is it wasn't soooo expensive. Avoid if you can and spend your money more wisely.

am very disappointed to tell that we had a nightmare and we are under post holiday traumatic stress. The reason being the room provided to us was having major issues which ended up unable to sleep for 3 nights and the room's carpets , Toilet was full of dust and cobwebs which has led to and also allergic reactions. Post my check on the 19th , I let Vanita the lady at the reception, know about the issue that the bathroom door was broken and was continuously banging, which would not allow us to have a wink of sleep. I was told that its normal and we had to live with the same. I asked for either fixing the issue or changing rooms and I was rudely denied the same. The room carpets were full of dust and there are spider webs in the room. The bathroom was very dirty, with insects and broken tiles and dirty bath tub. I have attached the video of the door and the photos of the room which provides ample proof. I want to formally register the complaint and want to be compensated fully for the nightmare stay at the hotel and ending up sick. I have spoken to receptions all of them at the reception and they have agreed with the issue and raised a complaint as well. They acknowledged the issues and sadly were not able to help. I have paid 1250 GBP fpr 3 nights and I am sure even a 1 star hotel will have better conditions. Please do yourself a favour and dont every book the hotel

I treated myself to a solo getaway on the Isle of Wight as I’d never been there. I chose The Albion because of its location. I spent three nights there and came away with mixed feelings. I was lucky enough to get a balcony room overlooking the sea. That was probably the best part of the experience. I fell asleep in the comfortable bed, listening to the waves. My room was clean apart from some dirty socks a previous guest had left under the chair. The bathroom was great, huge and spotlessly clean. But the decor internally and externally was undeniably tired, especially outside. The hotel in general bore absolutely no resemblance to the photos posted by the owners which reflect a much more upmarket style than the reality. I chose not to go for the £30/day ‘meal package’ of breakfast and dinner having read the dire reviews and I thought the price was extortionate anyway. But there’s a Co Op nearby which suited me fine. There are also plenty of restaurants and takeaways nearby. Parking is free next door to the hotel but beware, during busy times you might not get a parking if the place is full. Front of house staff were pleasant and helpful, so no problems there. But I drove away after my three nights feeling as though I’d been ripped off. The rates are monstrously high for what you get. I realise that covid and staycations have pushed prices up but this is not the way to do business if you want repeat guests and a good reputation.

The location is lovely but the hotel needs major exterior refurbishment. The rooms were very clean but only serviced on request. The balconies lacked privacy divisions and the windows were easy to open so that anyone could gain access to the rooms. I wanted my window open at night but felt nervous as I was alone! Balcony 'furniture' consisted of two cheap white plastic chairs. The rooms are large but dated. Obviously, I mistook 'family owned' for family run - in fact the hotel is part of a small group with no on site management and it shows in the distinctly lack lustre experience for hotel guests. The package they sell - ie no breakfast (which was ordinary but OK) without dinner. The only dinner we took was poor - no children's menu and the vegetarian option had to be requested as it was not shown on the very limited menu. They tried to get us to choose our dinner options in the morning - so we mostly dined out. Dining room staff were very sweet but obviously under pressure. The swimming pool was good - clean and perfect for the children but otherwise no effort had been made to make the exterior welcoming. The broken lamp post outside the main entrance was sad and rusty - no planters and the scruffiest little approach drive. Fawlty Towers may be a little unfair but it needs proper management attention!

The bedroom was lovely with amazing views and you cannot fault the location of this hotel. It was clean and the staff were friendly, but they are clearly struggling for staff like the rest of the hospitality industry and, although the food was good, the catering service was chaotic to the extent of comedy.
