We had a night at Thornbury Castle, the room was amazing with a large 4 poster bed and an open gas fire. The bathroom was a good size too. We had cream tea in the afternoon which was delicious. The dinner in the evening was disappointing, a lovely room and the complimentary soup to start with was nice but the...

I loved this 500-year-old castle. Our room was large with a four-poster bed, and a faux-log fireplace. The bathroom was hidden behind a wood paneled wall, and it was fun trying to figure out how to open the secret door. The gardens were lovely and picturesque and all in all it was a fabulous experience.

Thank you for your five star review. I was pleased ( and relieved ) that you managed to open the 'secret' bathroom door and that you enjoyed all aspects of your stay. We hope that you will come back and visit us again -as you can imagine, all of the rooms are different. regards Tim Pettifer General Manager

Celebrated my husband's 50th birthday. From the moment we arrived we knew we were someplace special. Pulling into the grounds was magical, to think of the thousands of people who made the same journey to the castle for hundreds of years. Megan, who greeted us upon arrival was a most gracious hostess. She escourted us to our room and even...

The hotel bedroom suite was tired, in need of a complete refurb. The bar, open fire and dining room much better. Dinner was 1st Class, great food and wine served by very friendly people. The castle is impressive, the interior and gardens need investment.

Dear Andy, Thank you for your balanced five star review, which is very much appreciated. As you will appreciate with a building of this age and historical significance, some areas are less than modern and sparkly! However, we do have a programme of ongoing refurbishment throughout, with a sympathetic eye on retaining the traditional feel of the old castle. Delighted...

Our stay at Thornbury Castle exceeded our expectations. Pleasant staff, lovely well-appointed room (Elizabeth) with very comfortable bed and delightful shower and bath, quiet and rustic grounds and easy walk to sweet little Thornbury village with good shops and food. Only disappointment was that the restaurant didn't seem to have a lot to offer by way of dietary accommodations or...

Food was not great, hotel looked dirty, grounds unkept, drinks very very expensive. Totally disappointed. Staff seemed to be trying their best but we won't be back again anytime soon which is a shame as until last week it was a favourite.

It is good for couple days stay when in the area. The rooms are quite large with Tudor style with life gas chimney. Internet good. Bar and lounge nice for an evening drink. Restaurant and food just ok. Breakfast buffet basic but you can order eggs, waffles, etc which make up for the poor buffet.

Stayed one night at Thornbury Castle. Stayed in the Howard deluxe bedchamber which was a quite a bit larger and nicer than the pictures I had seen online. Bed was very comfortable. Talk about quiet! Nothing penetrates the 2 foot thick stone walls. Dinner was quite good. Service was typical British standard -- which is to say, not very prompt...

From the moment you arrive you know you are in for a treat.....the castle is so lovely and when you step inside you appreciate you are experiencing a slice of history. On arrival we were shown to our room (Woodstock) which was so beautiful. Really thick castle walls and deep set windows, tea/coffee in the room, lovely large bathroom, beautiful...

This was our fourth visit, this time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had a lovely comfortable room - The Dukes Robe Chamber. We began to wonder if things were 'going downhill' when we realised that the complimentary sherry was no longer provided in our room, and when we had our pre- dinner drinks and canapés. The canapés were very...
