StoneHouse Court Hotel has garnered appreciation for its spotless rooms and well-kept grounds, with guests particularly enjoying the inclusive meal packages and diverse dining options. However, the hotel's atmosphere receives mixed reviews; while some find charm in its liveliness, others suggest it could benefit from a refresh. Service quality varies, with commendations for friendliness but also reports of disorganization.
Room experiences also fluctuate, as some commend the cleanliness and upgrades, despite criticisms of maintenance and outdatedness. The value proposition is debated, as high costs for dining and additional charges have raised concerns among visitors.

Detailed Reviews
We have been staying in a series of hotels over the last week after the cancellation of our Crete holiday in a lovely resort we have been to a few times . We don’t normally do longer trips in the U.K. so it was a chance to enjoy our own country .
After a terrible stay at our first venue we arrived at this hotel with high hopes having had a meal here a few years ago . The setting is idyllic with a large outdoor area with lawns down to the canal , here you can walk along the towpath and see all the wildlife, including two swan families .
We had booked a superior room and although it is big the facilities are not what you might expect . The ground floor room was essentially a dark dungeon with little light and no view , but in the hot weather it was nice and cool . The bathroom is modern but the shower water pressure is pathetic ? (Why does this still happen ?) . The cleanliness is fine but the bed situation is strange it is neither a twin or a double with odd sized uncomfortable beds , the head rest design is something to behold being both uncomfortable and impractical .
However the worst thing is the noise from above . I have no idea whether the room was let to a couple of cart horses but they couldn’t have made more noise walking around if they had tried . The insulation between floors is non existent and squeaking and banging is intolerable . This is the newer wing of the manor so it isn’t an age issue that could be considered character !!
The rest of the hotel services are superb , lovely staff , super food and drink and apart from tired and uncomfortable garden furniture it can’t be faulted . I would say that the speed of food service from the kitchen is very slow and should be better . A wait if 45 minutes for breakfast is to long , I appreciate the plan to cook to order but in hotels ( where I have worked in kitchens ) this can be helped by pre prep work and does not affect the quality . The evening service is also to slow .
So with some attention to the sleeping accommodation this would be a great stay .
Choose a top floor garden view room or maybe something in the manor and others below will suffer the noise whilst I assume you will be oblivious to it !!

I stayed with my cousins at The Stonehouse Court Hotel for a short break, as unable to travel abroad due to COVID-19 we usually travel a great deal.
We booked a 4 night stay on dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
This is a privately owned lovely period hotel with very impressive main building and grounds which were very well kept. We were allocated rooms in the annex which adjoins the main building, rooms were adequate, a little dowdy to be honest but with all the necessary amenities and excellent walk-in shower, due to the restrictions at the time there was no room service at all, but for a short break this posed no problem to us. I did contact the hotel before arrival and explained I needed good internet access due to my work, they very obligingly put me in a room near to the router, the WIFI was excellent.
The hotel is situated on a canal and we were so looking forward to the advertised canal trip followed by afternoon tea, but were told they needed a weeks’ notice, this was a disappointment, there were plenty of other attractions to explore nearby or just a walk in the Countryside. We did however treat ourselves to an afternoon tea which was excellent with fresh finger sandwiches, cakes and scone.
The staff are young and exceptionally friendly and helpful, they worked so hard in trying circumstances.
A lovely bar area with large log fireplace and an adjacent separate lounge for afternoon tea etc with table service.
The dining room is quite large, service for dinner was good with a reduced menu, quality of the food was good, the small menu did in fact get a but monotonous after a few days, breakfast however was very shambolic, it was busy at 9.00am but on one occasion we had to wait an hour for our Full English to be served.
It was a nice short break and I would stay again during betters times, as it is situated in a lovely part of the Country. I applaud the hotel for their social distancing and other health measures taken due to the pandemic, it could not have been easy for them during these months and such a hotel must have massive maintenance costs. Well done everyone.

First impressions are good, plenty of hand sanitiser stations and mask wearing in public areas. Nice location with gardens down to the canal. The room was comfortable but had some maintenance issues, staff keen to rectify them when notified. Restaurant tables a little too close together for the amount of guests in the first dining room, second room larger with better spacing. Food was very good but not enough staff, very long wait one night (an hour before getting wine and starters), better experience the following evening. Staff are friendly and trying hard to offer a good experience. Would certainly stay here again.

We booked a room back in the autumn of 2019 for New Years Eve. The website obviously showcased their best rooms but the room we were allocated can only be described as grubby! We were so looking forward to an overnight stay in a beautiful country location to celebrate the NewYear but we’re so disappointed with the room. Upon entering the room the smell could only be described as a “wet dog” smell! The carpet was filthy which is where we presumed the smell was coming from. Once we’d adjusted to the smell we decided to make the best of it, (there was a wedding being hosted at the hotel so it was fully book, hence no point in asking for a different room). Looking around the room, the headboards on the beds were broken, one of the bedside lamps was broken and the room was generally grubby. The bathroom was better but still disappointing as the shower was blocked and the facia around it was also broken. The next morning at breakfast we were kept waiting for half an hour after putting our order in, this was despite the wedding party breakfasts being pre-cooked and offered in buffet style, no reason for us to be kept waiting as we were the first in the restaurant! The staff were however very apologetic and the breakfast was great.
We paid £153 for this room and I seethe each time I look at our bank statement, we did complete a questionnaire stating how disappointed we were and the hotel do have my telephone number so it’ll be interesting to see if this review prompts a response from the hotel manager. We were in such a rush to leave that we didn’t take any photos of the room in the daylight.

I booked a weekend break at Stonehouse Court Hotel as a little treat to escape the dust and general chaos at home during building works. The hotel is a beautiful 17th century manor house (rebuilt in the early 20th century after a fire) located alongside one of the Cotswold canals.
Our experience so far (day one) has been a little lacklustre. We do have a room with a garden view but it’s in the 1980s/1990s extension. We walked down to our room to be greeted by the couple who had checked in before us saying that their room hadn’t been serviced. Ours had, but there was a light fitting hanging down from the ceiling above the dressing table and net curtains at only two of the three windows (we’re on the ground floor). Bizarrely, there’s a picture of a chimpanzee reading a paper hanging in our bathroom. I am quite taken with the wallpaper on the feature wall: robins and chaffinches sitting on branches, but this might not be to everyone’s taste. It’s a good job we’re only staying two nights: this double room has a single wardrobe and no chest of drawers. There’s nowhere to put your cases, and the obligatory tea tray takes up most of the only flat surface.
Our two-night stay includes a £30 pp payments towards the cost of dinner in the brasserie. It’s just as well, as two starters, two mains, a bottle of wine and two G&Ts came to nearly £100. The food was acceptable but really not at the standard you’d expect from a brasserie charging £8 for starters and £9 for puddings! There were 4 couples eating in the restaurant this Sunday evening: by the time we left, 3 couples had had cause to complain (we being one of them). I know that many establishments are struggling at the moment with supply issues, but this was simply a case of mistaken identity: the chef was serving Berni Inn fare at 4* prices. Some of the gripes raised tonight are easily remedied: having to ask for salt and pepper rather than it being on the table, no steak knives, food not served hot enough. I really felt for the waiting staff: they were having to apologise for issues emanating from the kitchen. You wouldn’t mind so much if the prices were reasonable, but the food we were served tonight just didn’t cut the mustard (excuse the pun). I’ll be interested to see what breakfast is like in the morning…
Another confusing thing is the music choice! I don’t know who thought Indian ballads playing in the bar added to the ambience of a 17th century venue, but it must have been the same person who chose the modern playlist with a thumping base rhythm in the restaurant. It just didn’t add up!
Storehouse Court has many attractive features- the garden is lovely, the main building is beautiful and the canal side location is idyllic, but the management really haven’t decided what clientele they are catering for- or if they have, I’d have to say they are falling wide of the mark.

Booked here for a Birthday present for my other half to have a night away with no kids.
Location and grounds were beautiful. Also loved the Bug hotel.
Food was super yummy and had a lovely waitress that made us feel very welcome telling us of her 4 kids after sharing about our boys, and working full-time (good work and thank you)
We stayed 1 night that included dinner, bed and breakfast.
Room was lovely (room 12) bright and airy, roll top bath and shower.
Negative points were the coffee served with breakfast was not up to much and also would be great if rooms with coffee machines had a simple guide as we had never used a Tassimo before so a simple guide would have been great.
Masks were worn throughout, sanitisers all over the place and never felt crowded which was great.
Overall we had a lovely stay and my negative points are very minor and easily fixed.
Would definitely stay again, thank you 😊

Just back from a 2 night break. The hotel setting is picture perfect, with beautifully maintained grounds and the canal running at the back.
The hotel had very good covid precautions in place, with plenty of hand sanitiser available at strategic places.
Our room was in the garden annex, and spotlessly clean. The only problem we had was the radiator would not turn down, so we had to keep the window open all night, which was a shame as the hotel is following a Green policy with toiletries etc, which were very nice. We did inform reception of the problem so it will hopefully will be resolved.
Due to covid restrictions the cups in the room were replaced with paper cups, and as the room wasn't serviced we had to reuse them. Bring your own cups during the pandemic would be my tip.
The food was delicious, well cooked and served quickly. I can recommend the fillet of beef, and the pizzas. The full English breakfast was plentiful and tasty, and set us up for the day.
All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful, and a credit to the hotel.
You can walk into Stroud along the canal, which is a nice stroll. Despite what the canal side sign says, it is impossible to walk to Saul Junction along the canal which had we checked with reception we would have found out before trying!
We thoroughly enjoyed our break at this historic hotel, and have no hesitation in recommending it.

We stayed here for one night on our way to Cornwall. What a lovely experience. We were obviously a little worried about staying in a hotel in the current situation but we needn't have been. From stepping though the beautiful entrance hall, it was obvious that Stonehouse Court is taking current Covid advice very seriously. Hand sanitizers in abundance, advice about social distancing on display and all staff wearing masks. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming, explaining the new systems very clearly. After depositing our bags in our room, which was immaculately clean and comfortable, we found a seat on the terrace to relax. After downloading the App onto a phone it was very easy to order drinks and was delivered within a few minutes to our table. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the beautiful gardens and then along the canal. Very pretty. The evening meal in the hotel restaurant was extremely good. Great choice of dishes, in beautiful surroundings served by really friendly staff. Recommend the fillet steak, risotto and all the desserts looked delicious.
Breakfast was equally good with choice of continental or full English.
All in all, can't recommend this hotel more highly, fantastic experience, made more special by the lovely staff.
Will definitely be back.

I have been gifted a voucher from Virgin Experience days and I decided to have a mini break in a hotel. Unfortunately, I chose this one. I called the hotel in June to make a booking and I was told that all Fridays and Saturdays are now booked until end of the year. Fair enough considering COVID. So I had to take a day off from work to actually be able to stay in the hotel without loosing it for good. On the day of arrival I have been asked to pay a deposit of £45 which I wasn’t too happy about as it was not mentioned prior to arrival. Been told I will get it back in 5 working days (today is day 4). Fingers crossed i get it tomorrow. Our room was not ready on arrival so we decided to have a drink. Drinks overpriced! The room I stayed in was very small and not in the main building, very far from reception. The room smelt very odd and was full of moths. Windows probably have not been cleaned in years. Beds very uncomfortable. The food is extremely overpriced and only 5 items to choose from starters, mains and deserts. Funnily enough we were told that they have run out of mussels and chicken burgers so that leaves us to only 4 options per course. I can admit, the food was lovely when it was eventually served. Breakfast was awful and looked like it has been out for days! Coffee tasted like it has been filtered through several times. Very understaffed as every waitress were running around like crazy. Definitely my first and last stay there!

We had found this hotel on line and from the 1 or 2 reviews we read and location and the look of the hotel we decided to book it.
Unfortunately our room was very small (Cosy) but didnt feel cosy and in the so called modern part of the hotel, but the room was dirty and had not been cleaned, the tea and coffee making facilities were also dirty and we were unable to use them.
The ground were very nice but the place itself was dirty and looked unkept and the older part of the building looked in better condition than the newer part. unfortanatly we probably wont be heading here again anytime soon.
Although the food in the evening and breakfast was ok, we had to wait over 45 minutes for breakfast on the second morning and all we ordered was toast.

Apparently it is!
We didn't hear or see anything, but reception staff (who have worked there a long time) had some interesting stories and experiences to share!!
Guide dogs only
In the main old building where we stayed there is no air conditioning that I recall. I don't know re the new part of the building as have not stayed there.
We opened the window.
