Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We stayed here for the night whilst going to the Cliff's Pavilion - it is within walking distance but we were lazy and got a cab! The hotel itself is very nicely decorated in a contemporary style on the inside and with a beautiful Georgian facade. The room on the top floor is a good size with a huge bed. Nice toiletries are supplied, along with a complimentary selection of snacks and biscuits. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The whole hotel is meticulously clean. We had a warm welcome when we arrived. The breakfast has a good selection of fruit, yoghurt, cereal and full English breakfast, included in the price of the room. We will definitely stay here again. This hotel is reasonably priced and they haven't inflated their prices during Summer 2021, as other hotels have done.

We stayed for my birthday last month as a couple and had the perfect night away. It's a beautiful seafront property with views of Southend promenade and the pier. Fantastic location. The ladies that run the hotel were lovely. We were greeted to have everything explained to us, she had put the heating on in our room. The room was recently decorated and had lots of lovely touches such as hairdryer, ironing board, tea and coffee and toiletries. Breakfast was continental choices and freshly cooked choices to order. The breakfast room is beautifully done, airy open and views of the sea. I would highly recommend a stay here we had such a lovely night away.

We had a lovely two nights staying at Hamiltons. The location is great; just off the seafront, just West of the bottom of the high street and the start of the famous pier. My other half commented that it was the nicest room we've ever had and I had to agree (the Balcony Suite).
The bedroom had lots of original storage cupboards. The bathroom was small but perfectly appointed with toiletries and excellent power shower.
The lounge is well lit by tall windows and large mirrors the high ceiling made it feel extra spacious with the high ceiling. The living room has two double leather sofas which we enjoyed lounging on, and a largescreen TV (with a blueray player). There's a 4 seat dining table too; we'd have been able to host another couple for drinks. The tea stand was good with bottles of water, savoury snacks and a little baggie of mixed sweets adding a little fun. There's also a mini fridge which I found useful for my evening beers.
The real attraction for us was the broad first floor balcony at the front of the hotel which overlooks the park directly in front but also the mouth of the estury to the East. We spent much of our evenings on the seats out there with drinks on the table. There are lap blankets indoors but we didn't need them.
The breakfast was great with a wide range of options.
The proprietor was hugely helpful in planning a long walk to Leigh down the coast. Also the room's guide book has a bunch of restaurant recommendations and we enjoyed the places we ate in.

We were not told when booking that the only double room with single beds was at the top of the hotel, you had to climb 5 steep flights with the last being an awkward spiral type staircase. There was no one to help with your luggage. The elderly person who greeted us was not very friendly, and looked quite miserable.
The actual room was ok, but very small. The beds were extremely close together.
There was no one available to get extra water for tea/coffee.
The breakfast was ok, very small cooked breakfast compared to what other hotels offer, but tasty fine.
On leaving I asked if I could use the toilet on the ground floor, I was told I could not, that I would have to go up and down the 5 flights again. Instead, there was a hotel on the corner that I had to use.
We would not go back, or recommend.

Stayed here several times, always booked the lovely suite, unfortunately the last couple of times the experience has been very unpleasant.
The recent trip, upon booking we asked for an early checkin (12) and throughout corrospondance this was not rejected. We arrived at 12:30 and my wife was sent away stating her husband had been emailed and told I had to pay a further £20 if I wanted to check in before 3pm. I had paid £175 for the room, booked direct rather than a booking agent and was upset and being treated in this way, therefore we were forced to sit outside the property, on the park bench for 3 hours.
While we were waiting another couple arrived, the door simply was not awnsered and they also had to wait on the street.
Now looking for an alternative venue for future trips.
Great shame

Response from Debbi K, General Manager at Hamiltons Boutique Hotel
Responded 8 Sept 2023
What a shame that you had to leave this review David. You emailed requesting an early check to which i duly replied there would be a charge. I had no response so naturally assumed you would be checking in at 3pm. Your wife came at 12.30 to which she was also told that I had emailed you. You were not "forced to sit in on a bench for 3 hours" we are surrounded by many bars and restaurant's that you could have been comfortable in. May I also point out that you were quite happy when you left. We are not a 24 hour Hotel and close lunchtimes for staff to have breaks and get supplies in. However we do charge a small amount should guests wish to check in early and this is cover calling a member of staff back in hence the charge. This is stated on our website as well. Our check in times are also stated on your booking forms and if we are able we can see guests in early but not always! We do our best to oblige our guests and sometimes this is not always possible. I do find that it is best to be truthful when writing or responding to reviews and hope this does not deter further guests from booking at our Hotel for which we have very good reviews on all of our booking sites.

Gorgeous boutique hotel. Debbie was lovely & gave us helpful info on the area. Very clean & well kept hotel, in a great location - quiet but fantastic for the esplanade, the shopping centre and the station. Our room was so pretty, very clean and had many extras like toiletries, tea/coffee, bottled water, hair dryer, iron & lots of mirrors (brilliant!!) Breakfast was wonderful, a good selection of cereals, fruit, buns, bread, and a full array of cooked breakfasts. We’ll definitely return!

Great location for visiting the seafront and central for the theatre. Rooms are lovely and quiet and breakfast will keep you going for most of the day. Parking in the street was simply and is free from 18.00 till 08.00. Staff made us feel very welcome and gave us directions for our visit. We'll be back!

On arrival my friend and I were booked into a lovely room at the top of the building. Unfortunately due to my friend being asmathic the room was unsuitable. We were quickly offered an upgrade (extra minimal cost), by the friendly manager Debbie. Luckily our move was to the very comfortable ‘balcony room’ which had excellent views of the area. The hotel was beautiful with stunning features. Breakfast was amazing with great choices set in a lovely dining room. The Hamilton is very well situated, close to the beach and amenities with the town just a 5 minute walk. Debbie and the team are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Cleanliness standards are excellent.
Special thanks to Debbie for understanding our issues, for her wise advice and being the perfect host. Would highly recommend the Hamilton *****

Normally we just do a day trip to Southend but this time we decided to stay the night and so pleased we did. We loved our time at Hamtilons!
You couldn’t ask for a better location. The room was incredible, so much bigger than we expected with a lovely balcony and sea view, comfy bed and a great shower. Breakfast was delicious and we loved that it was served until just before 10am to allow for a Sunday lie in. Will 100% be back!
For anyone planning on staying would recommend parking at the station. Southend parking is a bit of a nightmare but at the station you can pay to be there for 24 hours for much cheaper than anywhere else and it’s a 5 min walk.
Thank you so much Debbi. We’ll see you soon x

There was no aircon and no fans were on show. We had the hamilton suite and with the windows open it wad lovely and cool. It's a really nice and convenient place to stay. Don't worry about aircon. Have the hamilton suite, you'll love it. Guaranteed.

There is car parking around the corner which is pay and display but we paid for 24 hours and it was reasonable. I think there is some outside but its limited
