Detailed Reviews
We recently held my mothers 80th birthday dinner at the Brickwall, one of our favourite restaurants for something “that little bit nicer”. As always, they didn’t disappoint. They went to extra effort to make sure the garden room was set out beautifully for us, made us all feel special and valued customers. The food and service was at its usual high standard. I would happily recommend the Brickwall to anybody and look forward to our next visit.

I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff at The Brick Wall. We organised my father's retirement meal here and nothing was too much trouble for our party.
We were able to hire the beautiful private orangerie and bring presents, photos and a cake, which were placed carefully on a side table.
The food was incredible, absolutely five star, as was the silver service throughout the evening.
The surroundings are incredible, the building is quirky and the period furnishings and decorations are in keeping. We booked rooms for guests as well, and the beds were comfy and everyone slept well as the location is rural and quiet. (Expect to wake to the sound of birdsong).
Thank you. We will be back.

Stayed here for 3 nights in the peaceful village of Sedlescombe which is a great location for touring the area. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious each day and all the restaurant and bar staff were friendly and efficient. We stayed for dinner one evening which was excellent and the portions generous . We would definitely stay again.

This hotel has the potential to be amazing but somehow misses the mark on a few key aspects.
Check in was brief to say the least, no offer to dine in the restaurant for dinner, or directions to where breakfast is served. Check out was much the same, no asking how was our stay.
Everywhere is just a little dilapidated and worn, from the outside through to the bedrooms. It’s a beautiful building but needs some maintenance.
Bedrooms are a really good size and we had a view out on to the little garden. Housekeeping on arrival was spot on but the daily service left much to be desired, the used towels were removed but no clean ones given (2days in a row) bottled water not replaced, toilet not cleaned, bin bag chucked on floor next to the bin.
Breakfast was perfectly adequate, small portions and a limited choice but as it’s free, you can’t really complain. Staff service was excellent, he remembered our order each morning.
Nice bar area but they can’t seem to be bothered to open it properly in the evenings, soft drinks were all lukewarm.
We travelled with our dog and staff were accommodating, with dining etc. even bringing doggy his own sausage for breakfast each day. A shame dogs aren’t allowed in the lounge area as this looked very cosy. Might be an idea for the future to place people travelling with dogs near the external doors for convenience. Especially for a £20 per night fee, the highest we have come across, maybe a welcome pack or food bowls?
The hotel is in a beautiful location in the heart of a charming yet thriving village.
The Queens Head pub is delightful, great food and service. Literally 2 mins walk away.
A solid 3.5 stars from us - yes there are a few improvements needed but nothing major, or anything that detracted from our stay. Would love to visit again to continue exploring the local area.

We decided to have a breakaway for a few days looking to visit Rye, originally we had booked up to stay in Rye but were told roadworks were outside our hotel all night so decided to change. I found the Brickwall by chance and what a gem. Situated in a small village the location is excellent set back and within a couple of minutes of the local Queens Head pub which serves lovely food.
When I rang a short notice the receptionist was really helpful finding us a small double on the ground floor but still a good size with bath.
The staff are really friendly and make you feel comfortable and look after your every need. The hotel is not all mod cons but offers a great deal of charm with plenty of beams and surrounded by the attractive gardens.
The breakfast was beautifully cooked and also offered a great choice of cereals and continental options.
We had a meal in the restaurant which again was very tasty and the option of 2 or 3 courses.
Outside there is plenty of parking on site as well, overall I would definitely recommend a stay.

My birthday was May 31st. We booked a dinner to celebrate. My partner and I had a reasonable starter, (only just) and a main course of pan fried duck breast. We complained because the duck was extremely tough to the point it was a challenge to cut. We could not eat most of it. It was sliced, (or chopped) so thickly it was at the bottom end of dinning experiences. The potatoes were covered in an orange coloured sauce which was just awful, and it was impossible to say how the potatoes were cooked. We decided to have ice cream for dessert as we did not care for the other options. We were told the choice was vanilla, strawberry or chocolate - we declined as such a very basic choice was not how we envisaged celebrating my birthday. We complained to the waiter who apologised with no offer of recompense. The next day my partner complained to the hotel for ruining my birthday celebration and was told they would speak to the restaurant manger. So now nearly 4 weeks later there is a deafening silence from the Brick Wall Hotel. We shall not be eating there again and if you are reading this review I leave it up to you to decide if this is the type of dining experience you wish to purchase.

We stayed here for one night on Saturday 8th Feb and had a lovely time. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and did a great job. Our evening meal was lovey and breakfast was good but could have been served a little warmer but saying that, we all left our plates spotless.
Our room was nice and clean and the bed was comfy and we had a good night sleep.
We will return again and thank you to all the staff who all did a great job in making us feel very welcome.

Nowhere near what is offered or promised on their website.
No fruit/flowers/water/hairdryer in the room as advertised or as shown in the promotional shots. Room is very basic and not worth the ÂŁ138 price tag at all. Been in a ÂŁ38 Premier Inn that offer more. No mention of the need to book a breakfast slot from any staff. This was discovered as we read the printout in the room. No extra pillows/blankets available. Was refused an ice bucket and jug of water. Was allowed a glass of ice.
All in all not a great experience.
Would not recommend as there are better/cheaper hotels available.
This hotel offered nothing above and beyond what you would expect from a motel.
Room is very dated and bathroom is falling apart. Don't get me wrong, it was clean but this would be expected from a room at this price bracket.
I feel the advertising of this hotel is false as this is not the experience we received.
Staff were all very nice and have no issue with the service we had but would not recommend this hotel until they amend their advertising to reflect the experience that is offered.

Thank you for your review, we hope you are staying safe in this difficult time. We are so glad to read that you thought our staff were all very nice and that the service was good. We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your room. Usually we do have water and hairdryers in the room and fruit and flowers in public area’s however due to the current government Covid-19 hospitality guidelines, we have been ask to remove all extra’s from the rooms and hotel in order to keep both ourselves and our guests safe. This includes all extra bedding. However, these can all be given on request and our staff are always more than happy to help if we are made aware during your stay. Similarly, we have to ask all guests to pre-book breakfast so that we can limit our numbers in the dining room at one time. We ask guest to read the disposable guest information pack when they are checked in and come back if they have any questions. We believe that this is the safest solution in the current times in order to limit close contact over a prolonged period between our guests and staff. Our staff are always more than willing to accommodate guest requests so we are surprised to hear that you did not receive your ice bucket. As these ice buckets are used by both dining and hotel guests, we have to undertake extensive cleaning of these items between dining shifts. It is possible that you ask for an ice bucket when this cleaning was being undertaken and therefore none were available immediately. We do hope to see you again in the future. Kind regards The Brickwall

Spent a weekend at Brickwall Hotel and would definitely return for another visit. The hotel itself is an old manor house and it retains a lot of its original charm and is in a beautiful location. When we booked we were offered a smaller room and we were worried that it might turn out to be a cubby hole. We were pleasantly surprised to find the room had a king sized bed along with a sitting area and views out across the garden. Because we were meeting up with people we did not dine in the restaurant but the breakfast was really excellent and the service could not be faulted. All staff were helpful and polite.

My honest opinion would be to say no because it is a very oldie worldie building with an extension added on and there are lots of different levels and no lifts
You could give them a call though as they are ver amenable and would want to help if there was a way to
