We have visited many times over the years and enjoyed another excellent holiday. Staff very friendly and welcoming with an excellent choice of food. High standard of cleanliness throughout and very comfortable rooms. In particular, Fani in the restaurant was exceptional. The staff in all the bars and Kafeneio were all welcoming. We will be back next year. Ann and John
Recently returned from two fantastic weeks here with my wife and daughter Room wise, we were upgraded to a bungalow garden view which led to use of one of the recently developed private pools. This was a very welcome bonus as the main pools got very busy particularly in our second week. Private pools were rarely busy and usually comfortable to take sunbeds at any time in the day. There are a few private pools in the complex with signs up advising what rooms are allocated to use the private pools. Accommodation in general was fine, not over big (not a big deal to me as we work on the basis we are not in the room for long outside of sleep and getting ready to go out) excellent air conditioning. Shower only, which suits us fine, had small problem with water overflow which was quickly fixed by support staff. Maid staff were in every day and the bungalow was well kept throughout our stay. Larger pools were fine, plenty of room, first week no issue with sunbeds at all, second week definitely busier so you did need to be up earlier. Complex has a gym which I used regularly, nice size and depending on time of the day (I used to go 11ish) never busy, treadmills, cross trainer, weights etc., standard gym on the whole. One thing I would say is the gym ideally should be open earlier (i.e. 8am rather than 10am) would then give a chance for guests to use prior to breakfast. Played a bit of tennis, - nice cement type surface (you can use clay courts up the road at sister hotel) but be warned I think 20eur with no return is excessive to have to pay, if you use need to hire balls and racquets from reception. Food, from my perspective, was standard all-inclusive fayre. No issues at all for us breakfast / lunch, plenty of options. Lunchtimes did get very busy, so we tended to go a bit later – think staff wise the hotel were a little light at times. As per previous all-inclusive for us, I think the dinners are a bit samey and tend to have a little bit of a meat-market feel. All edible stuff, but I think a few more theme nights would be good. You are given the option of using three other restaurants, just the once, which need to be booked with guest assistance desk next to reception. These are classed as à la carte but you are not allowed to select from the main menu (unless you want to pay) rather you are given the set menu options. I actually think this is very poor. If you are only allowed to use these restaurants once then surely the option of the main menu should be allowed? The restaurant stored away with in the villa complex was very nice, beautiful settings and views and fortunately the set menu options, though limited, met our approval. I could not say the same on the beachside restaurant lunch option you are offered. The set menu option is appalling, literally next to nothing. The staff there, once they knew we were all-inclusive for the lunch, had zero interest in us at all, only interested in the paying customers. We were put on a table right out of the way with no view of the beach / sea etc. We decided to leave and go back to the standard buffet restaurant. The other option for à la carte was back at the beachside restaurant for a b-b-q type evening. This was excellent, brilliant options of food with some nice live music in the background. Waiter service for drinks here was also first-class. There was one other à la carte restaurant, next to the lunch snack bar, but unfortunately we could not use this as we had used our three options already. The two bars open in the evening were generally well tended and rarely did we need to wait long for our drinks. You could queue for drinks or find seats for waiter service. Entertainment wise – I could not fault any of the Animation team, they were fantastic! Of course its part of their job to try and get as many people involved in the activities as they can, but not once did they overstep the mark- if you wanted to be involved fine, if not, not a problem. I must give special mention to Martina, Marcos & Ri. We used to play Botcha most mornings down near the beach, which was always a good laugh (and quite competitive) – Marcos & Ri always up for a laugh and great banter. These two made a special effort to involve everyone. Martina was superb at the Water Aerobics (with Barbara) always making sure everyone was actively involved and importantly making it very enjoyable. Martina, and the rest of the team in general were always to be seen with a smile on faces, happy to talk to anyone. The shows the team put on were hit and miss. Never really bought into the idea of a comedy show as you are always trying to make so many different nationalities laugh. Other shows though were more successful, music quiz was a good laugh and the shows involving the team dancing and singing (well miming!) were more successful and enjoyable to watch. The shows are put on a little amphitheatre which the team helped to build – it’s a great set-up. As mentioned the main evening meals did get a bit monotonous so we did have a few nights out. New town Hersonissos was ok, we found a lovely restaurant (Palmera seaside), nice setting with great food. Town was very busy with youngsters, has its own strip with loads of bars. Old town Hersonissos we preferred, notably due to a lovely restaurant, Zachos. We went there twice – in summary, fantastic setting and atmosphere. Excellent menu, loads of options and food was delicious. Staff couldn’t do enough for you, bringing out shots / bottles of wine on the house. Absolutely loved this place, even had a sing-song with an accordion player on our second visit. Cannot recommend this place enough, and it isn’t over expensive either. Cabs, (which we found to be very hit and miss in terms of trying to get one at a given time from the hotel reception) cost 10eur to new town, 15eur to old town. I am not normally bothered with beaches, but this was different here due to a constant breeze. It was perfect to sit and lay in the sun with a breeze hitting you all day. The beach was never over busy either. In general, this was a fantastic holiday and I would recommend this hotel. It’s not a five star but most Greek hotels who state five star rarely meet that. It’s a beautiful setting and the large complex is in the main kept immaculately. Staff and animation team were rarely seen without a smile on their face and always good for a chat. Met some great people also which always add to the fun and games! This is certainly a hotel I would consider returning to in the future.…
From the first moment in the Knossos Royal it was a winner, we arrived at 23:40 to check in and while our bags were being loaded on a golf buggy we went to the bar for a drink. The next day went to reception and upgraded to all inclusive and what a great move that was. Food was plentiful always hot and tasty with a great selection, we sat on the section served by Fani, she was marvellous greeting everyone with a great smile every single meal. All of the staff from Irini on reception to Julia who cleaned our room as well as Georgia in the bar to name a few were excellent, nothing was too much trouble and i could not praise their service enough. Some nights entertainment was better than others as with all places but the night we spent in the bar with Costas playing guitar and singing was the absolute best he kept us entertained non stop on his own for in excess of 2.5 hours and was brilliant. The whole place is clean and tidy great value for money and our week was amazing. If I have missed anybody out I am sorry but thank you all for a great week away and it goes without saying we would recommend this resort without hesitation.…
We have just returned from a 10 night stay from mid September and had a great time. The hotel complex was lovely. The rooms were very clean and we had garden views (1408, 1409 & 1412). The food was excellent with good variation and the restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. The pools are very nice and the exercise classes were great. Some good beaches within walking distance.
George Michalakis Maitre the manager was excellent the whole holiday he made me feel comfortable and guided me and my family very well and showed us around he is very kind and will put a smile on your face and make you laugh he is the highlight of my holiday. Thank you George for being such a kind heart. Eva Maria
Been in Knossos Royal at the very end of August this year after being here 3 years ago. Some things changes and I think for the better. The rooms and common spaces are clean and nice and cleaning ladies are always very kind. The food in the restaurant is good and there's plenty of choices for everybody, especially at dinner. Around the main pool some waiters just walk around giving free soft drinks which is really nice due to the very high temperatures. But the best thing about the hotel is the Animation Team! There is the main international team of Pink Wave which works together with Italian, Polish and Czech! I was traveling alone and they made me feel like home! So a huge thank you to Emma, Nina, Julia, Basia, Matteo, Maria Grazia, Marco (I will improve with darts, I promise!), Silvia, Rihard, Guglielmo, Maja and Martina, but especially to Tommaso which is the chief of this wonderful team of this young guys full of energy! Hope to meet some of them again and if I'm coming back to Crete one day, Knossos Royal is gonna be the hotel I will choose! …
Really relaxing comfortable friendly stay here in a lovely setting. Staff so friendly hardworking and accommodating. Food lovely, and so much choice, well cooked, tasty. Would definitely stay here again. The little Taverna up the beach road was wonderful if you’re not full board, called Gorgona. You could pass it without noticing, but don’t. Food is wonderful, waiter is hilarious but be warned - don’t order too much. The Cretan wine is amazing - can we have some in England please? 😊 would definitely explore more next time. It was a weeks chill holiday for us and we definitely achieved that. 😎❤️
My family just had their fourth family get together in as many years. This time at Knossos royal. Great hotel experience. Hotel has just been updated. Rooms spacious, cleaners fantastic. Food was great and staff amazing and so helpful. Looking forward to next time.
We loved the food and the staff at the main restaurant. Aphroditi really made our stay special. Our 1 year old son was so happy to see her every day, her service was outstanding. The desert buffet was amazing.
Enjoyed most of our stay, room disappointing despite cleaner in every day there were mould and grime round shower, had a shower and it flooded bathroom, reported it and was told someone will fix it but no one did, the cupboard were safe was was all damaged, there was dust everywhere and this is supposed to be 5*?? Food is very repative one day same sausage casserole meal was served at lunch and later at dinner, expected better standards!
