It was a very good experience to see the large well furnished renovated rooms here and the modern new wing that is coming up soon. More new construction replacing the older ones are on the way. A swimming pool is also planned and they have opened a lovely restaurant by the beach. Room prices are very reasonable which includes breakfast. This property will be in demand once completed.
I have stayed in this property three times in the past five years. Each time I find a new level of deterioriation has crept in. The only saving grace for this place is perhaps the staff who at least make an effort to be friendly. 1. The property is located on the beach and has direct access. However the powers that be have decreed that the gate to this beach be locked and all guests have to walk a kilometre in the heat to access the beach that is right outside their doors. 2. The property is located off Chakratirtha road, and is far from the main parts of the town. Access to the market, shops or restaurants is difficult unless you are an intrepid walker. There is limited public transport available ( auto/toto) and they will rip you off each time you dare to step out. 3. The food is awful. Someone is clearly skimming the resources and this shows in the quality of the food. It is also pretty overpriced for the quality and quantity. 4. The property seems to have been recently renovated and some construction is still going on - however here too the rip off is evident in the condition of the doors, woodwork, electrical work etc. Even the floor tiles are poor quality and slippery. No quality control has been exercised here for sure. 5. And last but certainly not the least, the rooms are all on the first floor or above, and the lift does not work. No explanation provided. So unless you are in absolute fit condition, be prepared to huff and puff your way up and down at least four to five times a day. All in all, a disappointment on all counts except the room cost itself which is reasonable. What one expects is better management, supervision and accountability which would have resolved most of the issues mentioned above.…
The restaurant is quite comfortable and the food is also pretty decent. A very budget friendly place to stop by for lunch or dinner. They also have clean and quaint rooms. The beach is also easily accessible.
Enjoyed the food very much, variety of fish dishes, I liked much, neat and clean environment, taking sea food is a good idea, Staffs are polite. ask and takes care while preparing food for elders, nice.
This was my first time in Puri. I wanted to stay near Puri beach but most hotels on beach front through internet search looked expensive. So instead of booking online I went directly there hoping to look around and find good deals. Do not expect cheap hotels near beach and it is not a place where you can lug around with your luggage looking for hotels. It will be better if you book before hand. OTDC Puri is about 3-4 km from Puri bus station and about 2-3 km from Puri railway station. A rickshaw ride from station to Puri OTDC should not be more than Rs. 50-60. A non Air conditioned room is Rs 1700 plus taxes but I could not get one as I was told it was not available. Hotel did not looked busy though (something fishy!). I got a AC room for Rs 2500 plus taxes. Rooms are spacious and have basic facilities. But the best thing was view. To put simply view from the room was outstanding. Hotel is divided into two blocks, one which has the front desk/reception and other adjoining block. I stayed in other one and it is built in a way that every room would have similar sea views. They also have balcony in most rooms so great to enjoy sea view from your room with tea!. Also if you are flush with cash they have a Maharaja Suite which is not available online. It is not worth what you will pay as it is similar to other rooms with just more space. Apart from views do not expect much. Room service is slow and though staff is polite they always seemed to be in a slumber. Maybe sea breeze has that effect :). I did not had meals there so cannot comment on that. All OTDC hotels boast of local Oriya cuisine and I had Oriya food at another OTDC hotel in Chandbali and the food was excellent there. If you want to try some local cuisine I would advise to have some meals here specially Fish Besar (fish cooked in mustard curry). It will hard to find good oriya food in Puri unless you know the place or have some local with you. Most restaurants in touristy places in Puri (rest of Orrisa too) are owned by Marwaris and they have fixed set meal food which may not be authentically Oriya. Another good thing about this OTDC hotel is that they have a bar too. You can call bar on their intercom number and ask room service guys to deliver it to you room. Needless to say some tipping will make the service better. OTDC organized various day tours from Puri. I got on one to Satpada (Chilika Lake) which costs Rs. 355. Tour was well organized and I was not expecting that from sleepy OTDC guys. You pay another Rs 250 for boating on Chilika Lake. Tour starts at 7 AM in the morning and if you are staying at this hotel (you can book tours even if you are not staying at OTDC hotels) they can also pack you a complimentary breakfast box which has a Jam and Butte sandwich. It is just on the beach with its own private entrance to beach. In the morning I went to beach at 6 and it was a lovely experice. Puri beach is excellent. I enjoyed my stay here and if I am again in Puri i will stay here.…
