Puri is a tourist rich city, however, it isn't tourist friendly. This hotel however stands out from the city's touts and highly priced and pretentious hotels. PROS: Great Ambience: the hotel look classic and rich; service is great; very friendly management; great location and beautiful gardens CONS: Nothing!!

Amenities are better than any standard hotel. Once you stay you will enjoy and think of coming again and again as this is a located in a good place where you will have access to many other shops for your shopping besides visiting the lord's temple.

One of the last old style hotels in this coastal resort which is rapidly getting quite flash. Spacious, calm atmosphere in old house, with nice garden. Very laid-back management style (while we were there, one of the guests was given manager's job when he needed to go away for a few days!). Very good menu, with all food freshly cooked to a very high standard at whatever time, by very obliging staff. Guests tended to be Indian intellectuals or serious travellers. A real find!

This is a beautiful place to stay and excellent value. A 150 year old mansion set in a large private garden full of trees. Once a Raja's holiday home it now belongs to a Government Minister. Fully appointed modern bathrooms and air con in the large deluxe rooms, mosquito nets in the cheaper, common bath rooms. The common bathroom is kept very clean. Meals here are excellent, the waiter is a charming chap from Goa. A very amusing fellow. The Manager was very helpful, organised a taxi for us to visit Konark. We really loved returning here each day after the noise and chaos in the streets outside.

This is our second stay here and we are so glad we choose this place. Z hotel is a place which feels like home. The staff here all of them are so loving they don't let you feel like a guest. The food that is served here starting from traditional oriya cusine to continental are finger licking good. All I can say is THANK YOU to all the staff.

Can't get better on a budget than the Z hotel. An ex-maharajah's home it's certainly big, with high ceilings, a large, comfortable, communal sitting room, a covered, open-air dining terrace... and very close to the beach. Though it is losing some of it's palatial splendour to modern refurbishments the newly fitted out bathrooms are brilliant, and the food they serve is delicious. It'd be foolish to stay elsewhere if the Z hotel suits your rupees.

The dormitory is nice and clean with a really nice shared bathroom. The common area is so nice and feels homely with a film on every evening. The food is cheap and really good home cooking. Every member of the staff is so friendly, when I was ill they kept checking on me and even bought me medicine. A really great hotel, really nice staff and manager and great value for money.
