Situated at 18 kms from Shillong and 2.5 kms from NH 27, the property relaxes you from the daily hassles of life. at a prime location between the woods of the hills and beside the umiam lake its peaceful to experience the nature at its very best with a wide range of sea food and tribal food delicacies catered to the guest with authenticity.
La Nicholas is located on the quiet, less travelled side of Umiam Lake, about 1.5 km off NH 6, and 90 km from Guwahati Airport. We stayed at their lake view Cottages which are located on a small hill. The cottages are spacious and well appointed with amenities like TV , mini fridge, electric kettle and room warmer. The cottages offer views of Umiam lake, surrounding pines and you can view sunrise right from the balcony of the cottage. There is another option to stay in the Premium room or Executive family room in the hotel building on the same property. Their service and hospitality is impeccable. The staff is honest, sincere, attentive, courteous and go out of their way to attend to the needs of the guests. The food quality and service at their restaurant and bar is excellent. We had the opportunity to attend New Year Eve party at this hotel. Though the party was simple, all of their staff, irrespective of their job level, participated in the celebration and danced with the guests. We were deeply touched by this gesture. When we were booked into La Nicholas, we were surprised that it didn’t have much reviews online. So didn’t have too much expectations though we were sure we would get good views from the hotel. We were earlier booked for the Premium Rooms; when we found out they have Cottages too, we upgraded to that since it had unrestricted views of the Lake, and perfect for watching the Sunrise. Cottages were roomy had all the facilities like hot water, tea kettle and amenities, balcony, tv, heater and AC. The only drawback is that as the cottages are at a steep climb from the rest of the hotel they are not offering room service so you have to come down to their restaurant for meals which was okay with us, as our priority was the view. As far as hospitality, it comprised of very Co-operative staff, who tried to cater to all our requests. Special mention for Jacintha (Front office), David (Restaurant). We recently spent 3 wonderful days at La Nicholas, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Meghalaya!! The service, the food and the accommodation at the hotel was simply faultless!!
The staff at the hotel were always smiling and ready to help in every way and it was a pleasure to be able to bring in the new year with them, by the time we left they felt like family!. The food was delicious and we were spoilt for choice with the vast variety of items. We had opted for accommodation in the cottages and though we had a bit of a climb to our rooms, the views of the lake from our balconies and watching the sun rise over the mountains were well worth the climb!. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with all amenities and we were grateful for the heaters in the rooms as the night temperature was in the low single digits.
The hotel is located on umiam lake and we appreciated being able to unwind and spend some quiet time with our friends away from the hustle of city life.
But as I said before, it was the warm hospitality of the staff that made our stay most memorable, a big thank you to Mr. Sharma, Jacintha, Magret and their entire team, there was nothing we could fault and we look forward to going back soon!!

Beautiful resort nested in some hills very close to Umiam Lake. As it’s on a bit of height, you have fantastic views, with large rooms & areas to walk around. I m surprised why it has so few reviews & I felt I took a chance by going. But I was really happy with the hospitality. There was also good food available & everyone speaks proper english. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to relax & spend some time at Umiam lake.

Just checked in to a “cottage room” which is barebones. The room being sparsely appointed is fine but for the extremely loud music blaring from the hotel. I requested that the volume be turned down, I was told it’d be done but there’s no change so far. Apparently we’ll be subjected to this until midnight or later. Very inconsiderate and highly disappointing.

This place is an absolute disappointment to stay or to eat. It is full of cockroaches, has poor flow of water in rooms and no hot water in room 305 where I stayed. The internet service is for name sake and one needs to depend on cellular data. The breakfast is poor and placed in a space with flies flying all over it. I stayed there for two nights and just couldn't take it and changed the hotel. It is located at a beautiful location but maintained so poorly. Never think of staying at this place whenever you visit Shillong.

Horrible stay ! A local dharamsala feeling. I stayed in the top category cottage. Waste of money and highly overpriced. Insects flying everywhere and bed is very hard. Staff doesn’t cooperate. Breakfast and lunch not good . Items very limited. No proper views of the lake.Internal hotel Car doesn’t operate at night so you need to walk all the way to your room.(it’s a very steep and long walk)

I’m really sorry to hear about your nightmare stay. It must have been frustrating to deal with such issues, especially in a top-category cottage where you expected comfort and a pleasant experience. From the insect problem to the lack of cooperation from staff, it’s disappointing when expectations are not met. The limited food options and difficulty with transportation, particularly at night, add to the inconvenience. If you haven’t already, it might be worth addressing these concerns directly with the hotel management so they can investigate and make improvements. The room allotted to us was horrible. It was just like a local Dharamshala room. Door frames cracked, walls seepage, webs all over in bedroom, bathroom and living area. Stained floor and side tables. Wardrobe in pathetic condition. Large number of mosquitoes. Mattresses were very hard and discomforting. No slippers. Too low water pressure in hand washer. Sofa height was very low.
In spite of our complaints, they didn't change our room on 27th May. It was a nightmare to stay in that room.

It's perfect stay of 3 Days. An amazing resort in quite location. Rooms are large and very neat and clean. We were lucky and team at reception team upgraded us to Lake View and it's really dream place to stay, you just seat in your balcony and enjoy the nature - that's it. Ala Carte menu and food are though spicy but very good. Unfortunately breakfast was too poor compared to standard of hotel - but restaurant team lead by David is excellent and went out of the way to give us the best possible food. Other team member i MUST mention are Margret, Jecinta and Bala - they were really very attentive and extremely helpful. Thanks team for making our stay real wonderful.
