Headline says it all :) we’ve been visiting the Lord’s central since last two decades now, back when Jimmy uncle used to proudly show visitors the unique valley view of Lord’s central in his trademark style that’s engraved in our memory. Thank god for auntie that the place is still as magical and wonderful. Every stay has left me with peaceful sweet memories.
Well this plan was a real impromptu an with my sister , a last minute booking rather i should say. We were looking at couple of them- Adamo, westend and lords was our last priority. But we took a bet and booked the lord's . So this is how we reached ; We took a fast train from thane to karjat platform no 5 the ticket costed us INR 16/pp. We got down at Neral station. From Neral station we got share- a- cab INR 100/pp, this cab takes you up all the way to the start of matheran i.e Dasturi. From Dasturi you have to pay an entry fee of INR 50/pp ( adults). Now from there you can either trek up all the way to matheran( which we did), orelse you can stop at aman lodge wait for the Toy train that comes every 50 mins ( it was too crowded so we didn't wanna wait) , next option is the Horse and final the carriage that is pulled and pushed by a man.It took us around 30 mins to reach up via the horse carriage track. From matheran station at a 5 mins walk just beside Khandala point we entered this lovely quaint entrance to 'THE LORDS CENTRAL' and my eyes couldn't want anything more looking at how antique and British this property looked. This property was built in 1855 and then handed over the owners of this property .The property is now runby Mrs Zenobia ( we called her granna) and her son .We waited for a while, as we reached way before the check in time i.e 12 noon so we ordered some coffee for ourselves while we chatted away with grannas granddaughter, she gave a lot of insight into the property. They have 23 rooms in total some are garden facing , some pool + valley facing and some garden facing .We booked the mountain view room.i have attached pictures for you to see them they were beautiful , antique and heritage in its way .The rooms were clean and hygienic please do not expect anything luxurious out of your stay as this is a family owned property, you will have everything basic available for your stay. But like us you will never be able to complain about the room. Food: You have a basic in room dining available that you can order they are more of snacks, coldrink, tea coffee etc, but they have a set menu available at a minimal cost of INR 500/pp lunch or dinner , we decided to go with only lunch but after looking at the menu we decided dinner too . Menu for lunch : Chicken & Cheese Soup Fish Croquettes Parsi okra Subzi with Chapati Chicken Dhansak with Cardamon Rice Caramel Custard. Menu for Dinner : Madras Soup with Warm Crusty Bun Mutton Samosa with sweet coconut chutney. Veg Jalfrezi with Chapati Chicken Roast, potatoes with jus Trifle pudding Now looking at this i am sure you too would not hold back . The stay was just perfect with the most perfect weather as the rains have just begun. ,But now after this week the hotel would be closed for Rains and would reopen on the 15th September 2022. I just can't ask enough ,once you experience it you would know it i just can explain how happy I still am. One night felt too short and will definitely do this again and again. Each and every staff of the property was so helpful and quick. Just one thing its a forest area so you have to live with nature . A 5 star to this beautiful Heritage property …
Visited Lord's in Matheran with my family after a really long time. But the ambience, cleanliness and friendliness of the staff hasn't changed! The location is convenient too with the market and many scenic points within easy walking distance. Lovely memories..
We happened to get the room in the corridor. Not all rooms in the hotel have a view. Some face a beautiful view of mountains towards the back of the hotel priced more over the others, some face the front play area and some on the corridor. We were two adults and three children btwn 4 to 8. Our room in the corridor was not worth the money was my feeling. It's a room whose opening to the world is the corridor. Would have rather picked another place. Having said this I have to say that the room was absolutely clean and comfortably accommodated five. Hot water was a bit of an issue....we finally managed not cold water. For hot drinking water there was no heating kettle in the room. The office promptly supplied water when requested. Food we had in other nearby places at Gujarati hotel and grihavihari as we found those more moderately priced. They have prompt staff. They were particular about the room being vacated on time. They allowed us a 15 min buffer after a reminder at 11:10. That got dicy with a sick child but that can't be blamed on them. Overall was an average experience. Unless you are going for the rooms with the great view you would rather book another place. The view is btw from the balcony and not the bedroom.…
Stayed there in Dec-2019 with family. The location is very central, just a couple of minutes walk from the market place. Valley view rooms face the East, which is convenient to see Sunrise on a clear day. Staff is very courteous and they work with a smile. Locals in Matheran are very nice people. Their property has nice games like chess, open-air badminton, but with broken raquets and table-tennis table completely broken down with raquets again needing replacement. A limited collection library is there too. A swimming pool is there, which is decently maintained. The rooms are ok, comfortable with air-conditioning. Maintenance could be better, though. Food is strictly passable. Maybe a level below 'ok'. Breakfast is fine, with a choice of eggs-to-order. Lunch and dinner start with soup, all their soups taste the same. Quite bland and tasteless. The menu was at times overdone, with mutton, chicken served at the same time. Fish too, was hard and not tasty. Only their chicken biryani and baigan gravy was good, at best. Chapatis were excellent, no doubt. But some of their Parsi dishes like salli-boti, curry-rice, dhansak were a complete let down. Pricing is very high for the quality of food served. Rooms are just ok, not bad but not great too. Overall, I would rate this hotel as average for the price that they charge. Given that the property is old, a dire need to have a complete overhaul is needed if it has to sustain.…
Me and my brother from Sweden cam for 2 nights, best hotel in Matheran for sure. Peaceful and magic mountain vibe with great staff and nice owner. Highly recommended. When I get tired of the hectic life in Mumbai, this is the place I will go to for the perfect weekend getaway.
Standard size family rooms are quite big for 4 to 5 family members . Service is good . It would be good if they provide basic consumables in washrooms like soaps , shampoo , washing pad , oil pack , comb . Also at reception round the clock one person should be available. Intercom in room are not available and mobile signal is bleek
Being hotelier, i am very particular when it comes to choosing hotel for stay. We stayed at Lords central in matheran which is one of the best hotel to stay. A Heritage hotel which is nicely maintained and run by Parsi owner. Hospitable staff who always offered outstanding service s with lovely smile. All the best team! Keep rocking
The hotel has four categories of rooms...Standard rooms,Standard family rooms, Valley economy double room and Valley view room. Last two categories are good, the first two categories are not. The property is well maintained and clean, including the swimming pool (swimming costumes are compulsory). Food was OK. Nice valley view from the valley view rooms and the swimming pool. Courteous and helpful staffs. However, the tv was not flat screen. Wifi service was not available.
