However, the hotel was a real life-saver. It was closest to the station. The rooms were clean and the hotel staff were very polite and helpful. The food was awesome and this is coming from my non-veg family who don't usually say good things about vegetarian fare but the food here was really good.
My daughter also enjoyed the slide in the hotel premises.
The not too good aspects were:
The bathrooms were a little bit small and we had to ask for towels and soap. There is no lift and our room was on the second floor but it was more exercise for my 2 year daughter and consequently a better sleep.
We went a bit of sightseeing and surprisingly, once we were away from civilization and into the trees, the shade of the trees really lowered the temperature and made it enjoyable. Since there are no vehicles in Matheran, the only conveyance is on horses and hand pulled rickshaws. It has got its own charm (and a swarm of mites - guess it comes from all the horse dung). My daughter had a real good time on the horses and looking at the monkeys which come even near the hotel in the morning.
I gave one rating because of there no choice less than 1.
Please avoid this place.
Ambiance:- Not well maintained.Bugs and insects ruin the reception area,it has a swimming pool which is so oddly placed that no sane guest would use it.It has no ambiance.
Service : Not the best.We checked in to the hotel late at around 12,rather than being considerate they took advantage of our helplessness and charged us a bomb.Funny story!!!- The receptionist at night showed us a "MYSTERY" rate card, which showed the AC room rates at nearly 3200 including free food and breakfast. As we were late we couldn't enjoy the free meals.Their hotel is a military school, they throw you out at 8 AM,I don't understand who would wake up at 7 AM on their vacation.Anyway after begging for 1 hour they let us push the check out timing from 8AM to 10 AM.(How sweet <--- Sarcasm). The next morning we find the owner standing there with a new rate card asking us to pay him 6000.As it is we were sulking to pay 3200 for 9 hours and some magical rate cards appears which adds more reasons of depression. The man ,right on the face disagreed that any such rate cards exist which has lower rates. With a lot of fight and pain, the mercy lord (owner) showed love and asked for 4000 :/.On asking why he replied (in James bond style),"Tax,luxury Tax". Being a group of chartered we pounced on him asking for the rate of tax charged and segregated invoice. There was no mention of tax on the invoice,in the name of tax they extract money.Auditors of this hotel if you are reading this people report.
Rooms :- Bad,very very bad.I know the value of 4000 rs,have stayed in a million other hotels but this was the first time I got fooled.Interiors weren't good, bathroom like most low budget hotels was broken.Terribly maintained.
Advice to Management :- Stop extracting money.
Advice to Friends:- There are a million other better option, same price better service. They have no ATM machine and accept only cash.Avoid Avoid Avoid.
Nice value for money.
