Verandah in the Forest is a colonial-style property notable for, well, its verandah, where breakfast and (a nice touch) afternoon tea are served. The rooms are large and comfortable with interesting period features. However, they have no television, phone or aircon (the latter probably not required), and wifi is available only in the office. The hotel has a modest garden,...

The property is about 1km away from the market. Expect a quite and cozy environment. The property is breathtaking and has a history to it. The rooms are huge and we stayed in Chinoy. Each and every part of the property has a history to it. The dining area is also beautiful. If you want to be away from the...

As Neemrana promises to make you feel in lap of nature and a time travel by staying at a historic property.  This Neemrana surely  fulfills it's promise. It is a 1 hour walk from the Matheran Car Parking. And rests quietly near Charlotte lake. It's a two story property with a dining area at the large balcony of 1st floor...

For a usual traveller who expects a cozy environment in the hotel, this hotel is a no no.. but for a stressed traveller, who would like to be far far away from this fast working world, this hotel is a yes yes.. Hotel has no wi-fi, no mobile network, no TV, no music , no intercom even.. but this is...

We were there in the first week of September. Clouds will fill the Verandah at times and at others we will have a clear view of the sky. We ordered a birthday cake which was exceptional. The lunch is very tasty and the service is rendered with a lot of care. All the guests have dinner together at the long...

Room was crampy, with puffed and fungused wall. There was no TV, room was in a remote corner. While Verandah and dining hall was good. Overall experience of the stay was nothing less than a horrific experience

This is probably the best hotel I have stayed in, and a must if you are looking for a retreat with your family or loved one. The aura inside is a very pre-independence British one, (It was earlier known as Barr house), and the luxury to accompany it. There is a large drawing room sort of where you can play...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The paths once cleared by the British in the forests of Matheran, making it the last British hill station have acquired a new identity as the place where Bombay’s movers and shakers which include filmstars and businessmen come to spend a few quiet and peaceful days.Perched atop the Sahyadri ranges, Matheran is Asia’s only pedestrian hill resort. Chug up in a toy train, trot, or arrive in a palanquin, past gigantic mansions built by the British, the Parsis, and the Bohras. The Verandah in the Forest was the second house to be built on the isolated Western Ghats, by Captain Barr. Now, with every facility in place, it is reputed to be second to none! Indeed, the nobility of the proportions of The Verandah bring civilizational honour to the Sahyadri ranges. Lounge like never before in this verandah of your dreams. Read under the highest domestic ceiling you would have known in the salon – 12 metres/35 feet high. Stroll down to Charlotte Lake. Or take longer walks with a picnic basket. Relish the local cuisines. Heave your chest, muscle your calves, take all the oxygen back in your lungs. Link your planet with your own two feet.Find space for more space in your mind. Or lose yourself to find yourself anew.Long after you return, you will wonder who would have dared to sprawl out such a tree-home space in such spell-binding wilderness? ... more   less
