this property is above average but location is good. Views from here is scenic, you can stay here very well. Staff is average. Food being served here is high prised and not upto mark. You can do negotiation if you are coming out of season.

Fleetwood House is a beautiful family run property right at the end of Matheran. It is a very, very long walk from the station, however once you reach the place you realise that the walk is well worth it. This Colonial bungalow has it all - there are about 6 rooms in the main bungalow and two rooms outside. We were fortunate that we were the only family there at that time and we had the entire place to ourselves. The owner was there too so it was really nice to hear first hand stories on the place and how her family got it. The food was superb - great home-cooked food, not too rich and yet very tasty. We really enjoyed our stay here and hope we can go back someday.

I have a thing for vintage. I love staying at places that have personality and history attached to it. Colonial bungalows like Fleetwood are a great relief for this kind of taste. Relaxed and chilled out, this homestay is perfect for people who want their quiet and solitude. It is far, far away from the main market area, so be ready to walk it up to reach here. The food is not fancy but its delicious, simple, home cooked. Also, if you love horses, you will sure love the place.

I had been trying to book this place since a while and finally got a chance to go here.. and its definitely worth the wait. Although i went here in the summers which made it hot during the day, evenings are cool and pleasant given the elevation to sea level. Monsoon and winters would be ideal to visit this place given the thick vegetation surrounding the house, which will make the stay a complete different experience. The overall laid back vibe of the place along with the beauty of the colonial house helps to relax and unwind from an otherwise busy routine and spend quality time with your folks. The food is simple home cooked India meals (veg/ Non-veg) prepared by some seasoned hands; given the fact that there aren't places to dine around. PS: - No wild animals in the vicinity, however it gets pitch dark outside post sundown. Hence its suggested to be back from your walking trails well in time.

We went as a group of 4 for 1 night. I had read Trip advisor reviews before coming and thought we would manage easily. We are all used to budget accommodation and living without creature comforts. However, what was in store for us was something none of us expected. We liked the picturesque setting and the helpful staff but sad to say that was about all the positives. The staff had kept the verandah sealed with plastic so the entire property reeked of damp and there was no fresh air and no view to outside. We had asked them to remove it but our request was denied as they claimed it was to prevent monsoon damage. I really believe that they shouldn't be allowed to let out the property in this manner, it was so unpleasant and the website is totally false advertising in that regard! Food was decent - simple, homecooked food but as the property was damp and smelly with no air circulation none of us had any appetite. We were just counting down hours until we could leave. Due to the remote location of this property it is difficult to escape to any other hotel. We paid entire amount upfront on booking which is cunning on property owners part. If it was pay on arrival, we would have ran for the hills! There was no management present to complain to. Throughly disappointed as this property is clearly in an urgent state of repair and has the potenitial and heritage feel to command a premium. In its current form, it is worth no more that Rs.500 to 1000 per person per day, we were charged Rs. 3000 per person per day which is daylight robbery. My only advice, DO NOT go there until the owner completely renovates the property. It is absolutely a waste of time, money and effort.

Pros - secluded location in the middle of the forest - no connectivity (could be a con depending on your requirements) - different experience with the heritage setting - Nice long walk upto one tree hill point, where it is located (again could be a con depending on whether you enjoy hiking) - You can pay the caretakers to get snacks and drinks for you from the market until the evening so you're set for dinner and breakfast Cons - food is pathetic. They have multiple servants taking care of the property, but no good cooks and one of those servants was also very rude to us when we complained about the taste of the food - the villa is not well kept and has probably not even been painted in many years. If I owned that kind of place, I would have made every effort to maintain its heritage beauty - they charged us 2750 per person for one night, inclusive of three meals, which was very expensive given neither the stay, nor the food, nor the service was upto the mark Other points - No showers as water is scarce, and you've to use the buckets for taking a bath - lots of ants around and we had to ask them to spray hit - We didn't need hot water, but the geysers don't work and the caretakers will heat up the water for you

I am the kind of person who had lost hope of finding good places for a lazy weekend near Bombay. Fleetwood, or Salmona as the locals call it, gave me hope. This property is a very beautiful bungalow far away from the usually crowded and cliched Matheran. The walk is about 6-7 kms from the market but the quaint nature of the place makes it worthwhile. The place has a rustic charm to it, if you are a picky traveler seeking luxury, you may want to give this one a miss. The rooms are ok, expect no privacy as only drapes cover the glass doors leading to the verandah. The verandah is very picturesque and old school. The chef cooks nice homely food, but carry additional supplies as per your plans for the market is far away. Folks, you need to need this is a no smoking property, although the place has big lawns where you can go out for a stroll with your cigarette. All in all, a good value for money proposition for the nature lover seeking a lazy idyllic weekend.
