Discover India's best kept secret - the Andaman Islands - at the Barefoot Group's first eco-retreat called 'Barefoot at Havelock.' Located exclusively on what TIME Magazine in November 2004 rated as the best beach in Asia, our small resort is set in rain forest and tropical fruit trees behind a pristine 2 km white-sand stretch of the quirkly named Beach No. 7 at Havelock Island.

The resort provides the perfect getaway to enjoy the beach and forests of Andaman. The food is delicious, the staff helpful, and the premises, clean. One of our favorite activities was Barefoot’s Night Walk. It welcomes you into the lap of nature after sunset. You’ll walk through the jungle and encounter creatures of the darkness hiding in the trees and sand. You’ll then venture onto the beach and gaze at the stars. Prathamesh (naturalist) provides the perfect flash lights and shares his extensive knowledge on snakes, crabs and whoever’s fate is to cross your path…

We loved everything about our stay at the barefoot. It is secluded and calm.It has the perfect balance of being close to nature and luxury. The staff are very hospitable and the food is consistently good. It has a very earthy feel and the 2min walk to the Radhanagar beach is beautiful. The path opens up to a rather secluded part of the beach which is really nice. They have nature activities like bird watching, intertidal walk and so much to learn about the island’s biodiversity. Few important notes thats I read in other reviews and felt like misinformation - they do not provide room service for food which completely makes sense considering the location - there is wifi only in the reception area. It is meant to experience nature and that is a part of the charm of this place -someone had written that the spa is an open tent kinda thing. That is not correct. The open tent is a kiosk to make bookings. I would recommend this place!

This was our 2nd visit to barefoot and it was amazing. The hospitality at barefoot was incredible both times. Our scuba experience with the barefoot scuba team was the best, it couldn’t have been better. Being a non swimmer, there was no nervousness, coz the instructors were extremely calm, patient and supportive. Live music in the evenings were an add on this time for us, we thoroughly enjoyed it during our evening drinks. This time we also walked to the beach late at night to look at the clear night sky, something you don’t get to see so easily. When you visit, do try the aloo chat at the restaurant, it was our fav.

Excellent stay & fulfilling experience. Private access to the radhanagar Beach is the best part .The staff is very courteous. Banerjee at the restaurant took good care of us. Prathamesh (naturalist) gave a great nature walk showing the diverse and beautiful birds and marine life.

It was a mixed experience staying at Barefoot resort, the location is as advertised, nestled among tall trees (some of the tallest we had seen) right on the Radhanagar beach. We are a family of 4 with 2 kids (2, 9) and stayed for 3 days in the resort. We stayed in the Nicobari cottage The good: The cottages are very authentic and spacious, they are well spread around the resort. The beach is 5 min walking distance from the resort and its like a private beach quite away from the main Radhanagar beach. Our beach experience was spoiled by rains for most of the duration. The Staff is really good and very helpful, from house keeping to restaurant to front desk. We had asked for cab many times and it was made available within 10-15 mins. The cottages are fairly apart and there is a mud + stone pathway which connects them, the housekeeping carries the luggage and other stuff on their shoulders in between them, kudos to their hard work. The Chef also visits the tables personally to ask about the taste of food etc. very nice fellow. We also availed their in house scuba diving services and that was really good. The havelock Scuba team accommodated all of us in back to back sessions, which themselves were very good. The not so good: The resort is practically located in a jungle, so you can expect all the creatures that come with the location. During the night there is minimal lighting in the resort which is part of their ecological effort, the pathways are very dim lit and they give small torches to carry. We saw snake twice on the pathway in the night which scared everyone. There were some creepy crawlies in our room and one morning we saw a moth the size of a sparrow flight out from the room. There is no room service, nor there is any intercom, so you will have to go out in the night to eat dinner etc. I think an intercom is necessary to call someone in case of creature emergency. The jungle experience was probably a bit too much for us.

Response from Guest Relations, Other at Barefoot at Havelock
Responded 2 days ago
Dear Mr. Ashim Mishra, Greetings from Barefoot Family !! Thank you for taking out the time to share the feedback on your recent stay with us. The resort is thoughtfully built to get our guests closer to the nature with the inspirations from the essence of Andaman and Nicobar Islands just next to Radhanagar beach – one of the best beaches in the world and we are happy to know that you liked the authenticity of the place. It is also very also kind of you to have highlighted your virtuous food experience and the hospitality of the team. Your appreciation and kind words inspire us more to keep striving for perfection. We are happy to know that you enjoyed diving with us. As we have re-grown the jungle on the property, we have also as a corollary provided habitat to creatures of the jungle: some of whom get attracted to food in rooms. When we started out with room service, we had daily issues of wildlife entering rooms (chewing remarkably fast and easily through wood and thatch – the natural materials with which we have constructed) . Ever since, we discontinued room service and also began to provide in-room amenities inside lock boxes wherever possible. We have kept the ambient light low in the resort. The reason for deliberate low lighting is an effort to encourage visitation and breeding of local resident owls/nocturnal birds and other nocturnal creatures, and this approach is central to our resort identity. We also issue flashlights complimentary to all guests to enable them to navigate the resort after dark, a practice adopted by leading nature resorts in wilderness areas worldwide. We do understand that we are treading a fine line and that others may have preferred that we had drawn the line between sustainability and conventionality closer to conventionality. Many of the points you have raised are valid and we will revisit in the off season to see if we can find a more comfortable balance. Thank you once again for taking out time to give your feedback on Trip Advisor.

A stunning property located at an even more beautiful beach. The staff is extremely sweet and helpful. We went on a full moon night and the beach looked beautiful. The rooms are very well designed and maintained. House keeping staff is efficient in making the rooms comfortable and keeping the rooms clean. The food is amazing! That’s what surprised us the most. They take in requests and don’t mind cooking something special for you. They have a live performance at the bar and the singer is super talented! Worth the price, an amazing and unforgettable experience.
