Hotel was nice, nothing special. Rates were higher because of MSU OSU Gameday. Valet was understaffed and slow. I expect this kind of device at a mom and pop shop, but not at Marriott. We are missing time with our boys while we wait for a terrible valet service with many, many others.

W13cpa, Thank you for staying at the Courtyard Columbus Downtown. I apologize to hear about the slow valet service. On high demand days where many guests are leaving the hotel and many guests are also arriving at the same time, it can be very challenging for valet to quickly respond to everyone's needs. I will ensure our valet services are... More

The hotel staff is very friendly, from the time you pull up until the time you leave. Each staff member I encountered made me feel like their only priority at the moment. The room was very clean and the mattress was even comfortable. You are just a short walk from the arena, the statehouse or any number of restaurants.

Good central location, but 2 major issues: one of safety and one of service We spent 6 nights here attending a local function. Housekeeping left much to be desired, Saturday our room was not serviced, the next day it was finally cleaned at 5 PM after several requests. It appeared that they were very understaffed for a busy weekend. The... More

We had tickets to the Ohio State Buckeyes football evening game and decided to spend the night instead of driving home late. The Courtyard Columbus Downtown was very easy to find, right off the interstate and even easier to get back on the interstate the next day. Nice room, staff went above and beyond to rectify small problem in room. Convenient to restaurants in Arena District. Room was clean and nicely appointed. Historic building with a very interesting past. Really cool to read about the history.

My friend and I were in town for a girlfriend's weekend. We chose this hotel because of the proximity to the Ohio Theatre. We were able to walk to the theater and to the arts district on Short North with no problem. Our room was spacious and clean. There was a small refrigerator for beverages. There was some street noise... More

My wife and I requested to change rooms because the room we were assigned was not properly cleaned. The initial room we were assigned also had some oddly-placed stairs between the bathroom and the bed that we both tripped over. The staff were responsive and helpful but the quality of accommodations at this hotel is sub-par.

Overall a fairly decent place to stay if you are in Columbus on business. Nice, clean, yet fairly basic rooms. Good service at the cafe/bar. Comfortable business center and tv lounge. Valet parking was nice. Front desk staff was cordial, but lacked a bit of professionalism. Convenient location for my business purposes and close to various dining options.

This was a great downtown location with a boutique feel! Always great Marriott service from check in to check out. Lovely Bistro restaurant allows you to order from breakfast to dinner to snacks . Pool and gym really nice and the business center- open layout of the lower level is great for families and businesses alike .

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to one of Columbus' oldest surviving hotels! Built atop a plot of land dating back to the birth of the city in 1800, the history of our hotel follows closely the transformation of Columbus, Ohio, from a sleepy pioneer town inhabited by the peace-loving Wyandot Indians and our nation's earliest settlers into today's sprawling urban conurbation and capital of our state. Built in 1911, our building has always been one of stark contrasts. Ostensibly constructed as a dry goods store, the United States Government secretly commissioned the building as a clandestine producer of uniforms and helmets in anticipation of World War I. It was around this time that the lower level of the lobby became a factory for the Wolfe Brothers' successful shoe business. Meanwhile, thousands of prison inmates from the nearby Ohio State Penitentiary were forced into unsafe and unsanitary forced labor, transported at gunpoint down an elaborate network of tunnels connecting the prison to industrial plants around the city. The remnants of this tunnel still survive today, entombed beneath the first floor bedrooms, used as storage for maintenance and housekeeping supplies. From 1954, Gene Schiller purchased the dry goods store and transformed it into a hotel, which he named "The Victorian Inn" after his daughter, Victoria, who had recently passed away. After later losing his beloved wife, Schiller committed suicide, whereupon the hotel was acquired by a bank and renamed "The Emory Inn". In 1985, the "Emory Inn" was purchased by the Best Western Company who later rebranded as a Courtyard by Marriott. All historical features and furnishings have been preserved where possible We hope you enjoy your stay with us here at the Historic Courtyard by Marriott Columbus Downtown! ... more   less
