Lovely historic pub, ideally located in Castleton. Staff friendly&outgoing. Room decent enough size with ensuite. Breakfast was delicious. Had a good selection of ale for an afternoon/evening tipple. Free car park opposite pub for pub/hotel users. Seemed very popular with locals and tourists alike. Would stay again and will recommend to friends.

Had a wonderful stay her last night. Spotlessly clean rooms, bedding etc. Lovely cosy bar and very friendly staff. The breakfast was great, full english, toast, fruit, cereals and the member of staff who served breakfast this morning was very polite and helpful, can't fault this and will return.

great service. The plate pie was excellent. Will definitely be spreading the experience. One of our party had surf and turf and another had steak lunch. We were allowed to take the dog in which was a bonus.Well done

Stayed for four nights in February. A traditional pub serving food. The food was fine but only ate there one night. Decor seems a little dated especially in the room. I had a twin room which had a frosted window. On inspection this was because there was a breeze block wall about 6 inches away. Room was nice and warm...

The 4 poster bed did not give us a good night's sleep, after driving up from London - it was a tired old soggy, 4'6" mattress on top of a firm mattress, in a wooden box. The bathroom was poorly maintained - faulty door mechanism (I nearly got stuck in there, because I was unable to open the door from...

Had to drop in just because it sounded so interesting! I was pleasantly rewarded with a different and off-the-beaten-path "locals" establishment. After some wandering around the place, ducking & bobbing as I went, I eventually found a niche and ordered a drink and some food. I had the Mac and cheese. I was expecting better but it was acceptable, besides...

My partner and I came here for dinner in between Christmas and new year. The food was lovely and homely. The service was good (although not table service). The pub itself was very quaint and comfortable. Would recommend.

We were told we should go to the Cheshire Cheese as they do an amazing lunch and in addition it is a charming olde English pub with lots of character. It was great as I needed to duck my head and had all the charm and character you could want. The lunch was terrific too as was the ale.
