We have stayed in Castleton a few times but this was the first time in the Peak and we will definitely be returning. We booked the week before for a Sunday and Monday night at £65 a night which is more than reasonable. Although we thought we had booked for bed and breakfast, this turned out not to be the...

Homely yet adventurously decorated pub. Incredibly warm and prompt service and we were made to feel very welcome for a Sunday roast. Good rather than excellent food but a very easy place to recommend.

I have been staying in the village of Castleton for over 40 years. I have stayed at the Peak a few times over the last few years . My husband and myself booked a last minute Weekend here the first week of the new year. We stayed in room 3 . The room was clean but I found it very...

My partner and I stayed here for a couple of nights in between Christmas and new year. The room we stayed in was beautifully decorated it had a real homely feel to it. The only bad point would be the bed- every time we tuned over in the night it made a squeaky noise that woke us up. The pub...

I'm not sure what the hype is on tripadvisor with this place, but I can assure you this place isn't as good as the reviews make it out to be. The food is good, but nothing special. The menu is a bit portentous, and mediocre. The service was ok, but the waitress forgot to clear the table properly, and didn't...

Visited for the second time in the last couple of weeks. This time we booked in advance as it does get very busy. Food was lovely all round. Service with a smile and very efficient. Would definitely recommend. Lovely decor and a nice warm atmosphere.

There are six pubs in Castleton, and we chose this one for dinner. Here comes the one and only good point : the pint of real ale I got was in excellent condition. That and a half of lager came to five-pounds-something. Me : "Could you open a bill, please, because we'll be dining here, too ?" Young woman serving...

We decided to have a trip out to the peak district, spur of the moment, with our two 8 month old dogs. It was such a nice crisp sunny day. We ended up at Castleton and the village looked very quaint so we parked up and decided to have an explore and see if we could get some lunch in...

Pate starter was frozen in center, Cajun chicken arrived with no Salsa, rubbish bagged salad and Aunt Betties frozen sweet potatoes French fries. The Burgers are rubbish ... get a better burger at McDonalds. Worst pub meal we've had in a long time ... Could do with getting a proper chef !!
