We eat here last night, and we had mixed feelings on the experience.... The bar is warm and cosy, log fire, a few tables, and a wide range of beers and ciders. Alas although we booked we were seated two rooms away in a characterless room with few people in, the table was totally bare, no cutlery, place mats, or...

Enjoyable one night stay. Stayed in Room 2 where the decoration was a bit tired but it had a great view of the hills. Nice and warm when the heat came on in the evening but chilly when we arrived at 4 pm. Enjoyable and not too expensive evening meal in the cosy dining room. Breakfast room has lovely view...

Visited this pub on a circular walk from Ambleside over Wansfell Pike. Lovely setting, and seemed sheltered in the beer garden on the day we visited. Good sized food portions, average Lake District prices.

..... after a long, hilly walk. Busy, even in October. Very good service whether it was beer, or just a cup of tea. Our dogs were welcome, and water provided. Excellent choice of cider. Great views. Walk down to the beautiful church. Look out for blackboard notices. Sense of humour was great.

Great pub, amazing views, friendly staff, good choice of beer and cider. Dog friendly, sport on the TV. What more do you need?? Love to visit again for a longer stay. Troutbeck is glorious and has plenty of walks to try out. Nice little cottage type places to stay nearby. Excellent views all round.

What a view !!! What a location !!! What a great night's sleep !!! The staff were brilliant, it felt like being with family, the food was top notch, and what a fantastic beer garden. The room was very comfortable, and the bed, well, it was so big, next time we come here, and, oh yes, there will be a...

Not difficult to find and you can avoid the dreadfully narrow and potholed road in if you use the Townhead Brow road in off the A592. We were able to park just fine in the car park, but this pub is popular so arrive early or be prepared to park on the narrow roads in. We didn't stay at the...

Really enjoyed our stay here. It was out of the but we loved that. The walks around the pub were very pretty. The staff were lovely and the cider selection in the bar was impressive. We loved the building and the character. The only disappointment I felt was the room could have done with some redecoration and TLC. That being...

Visited with myself and young family and the food was delicious and the staff friendly and competent but must say didn't feel particularly comfortable with young children, we felt as though we were an inconvenience so I'd have to say for couples or families with older children..fab! Families with preschool children maybe not.

Very difficult to locate. Room was small and dingy. Very little parking available, had to park in the road. Seems that they had a staffing problem while we were there. The food was okay, but not great. Very scenic area but that does not compensate for the lousy rooms. The tables were sticky and it felt as though I wanted to get...
