Took advantage of a Travelzoo offer to spend a couple of nights where the rooms were well sized, spotlessly clean and fresh with ample hot water. The owner and all his staff were helpful and friendly. The service was excellent, the ambience great and the food outstanding. Highly recommended.

We were warmly welcomed by Carol and were amazed at the size of our room which was spotless and stylish. The bathroom was funky, modern and efficient. We were able to watch the large flat screen TV from the comfort of armchairs, and when we did eventually retire to bed we found it really comfortable. And our visit just continued...

The hotel, staff and food were excellent. More importantly the welcome we were given not only on arrival but throughout the stay was second to none Certainly put larger chains to shame, nothing was too much trouble. We left knowing we would return to this hotel again

Returned home from two night stay at Alston House. Cannot compliment Carol and Michael enough on the quality of their hotel. We are greeted and treated superbly thoughout our stay. Staff were helpful and professional. The room was spotlessly clean, bathroom recently redecorated in contemporary style. We enjoyed a splendid evening meal in the restaurant, this was accompanied by several...

This place is a gem - cosy, welcoming, clean, comfortable, delightful friendly staff and proprietors. And that's before you've eaten....the quality of the food served is first class, with generous portions and cooked to perfection. What a find! Nice to meet locals who choose to go there to eat in the relaxing, informal restaurant / bar. Tasteful and well appointed...

We paid £110 for 2 people and a dog. Clean room, good bed, but shower pressure was terrible. £110 is just not good value. And the restaurant? Oh come on. £22 for a steak with some tired vegetables? Something like a tenner for an omelette (I may be corrected on that)? "Vegetarian" options which include prawns and fish? The main...

We had a pleasant two days at the Alston. The food was very good and the staff were excellent. We had a large room over looking the countryside. With all amenities. We sampled their home made cakes and scones in the café within the hotel which were also excellent. The drive to and from the hotel were spectacular. I would...

Arrived around 5pm and did not really see much around the town but managed to take dog a good walk both evening and...

From the outside Alston House is not very inspiring but inside it is much better. The staff are pleasant without being intrusive, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the food is very good and plentiful. Alston itself seemed a little run-down but our stay in the hotel was most enjoyable.
