We spent a few days here for some skiing and hiking. The location is near the main street so not protected from traffic noise, but that was somewhat ok. One can hear the cars passing by. however. The online photos seem a bit more inviting than the actual place. While everything was clean, the equipment in the condos is pretty old and several things did not function, e.g. there were problems with the stove, with opening the window, the toilet had a problem and several plucks did not work. Some items from the kitchen were missing so we had to buy new items to be able to cook what we wanted to cook. We also were under the impression that every cottage had their own jacuzzi, but that was just our mistake not having looked right online. The most disappointing aspect for us was that the condos at least are in a house that is not built with a lot of insulation. So, one hears all the music, the steps, the bathroom use and all noises from other apartments in the same condo. For those with a light sleep, get ready to be woken up with the first person awake. With every step on top of us, the doors in our apartment made a squeaky noise. If noise does not bother you, this might be just fone. But for us the vacation was not as rejuvinating as it should have been. The fact that the condo takes pets is of course a big advantage for animal lovers as us,

This is hands down my favourite place to stay in The Eastern Townships. We've been coming here for many years and find this to be the most comfortable and convenient place around. We find the suites to be a good size and well appointed, with cozy furniture and all you need in the kitchen to make complete meals. Internet is fast, there is a good selection of channels on the tv, and the fireplace is icing on the cake.
Last year, arriving just as the province went into shutdown was a huge disappointment, but Pierre the owner, was very understanding and accommodating deferring our deposit until next year. While Covid hasn't gone away yet, the staff at Le Montagnard is doing a fantastic job of keeping things clean and safe for their guests. They even ordered up 20+cm of fresh powder in the middle of March for our skiing pleasure!
Thanks Pierre, I'm planning next year's trip already!

We went to the Montagnard for the eclipse and couldn't be happier! The staff was very, very nice. The rooms were very clean, although very simple and utilitarian. The kitchen was well-equipped.

There had been a major snowstorm not long before our trip and the warm weather brought a lot of melting. The walkway to our condo was clear. I mentioned to the desk clerk that we hoped to view the eclipse from the deck and she offered to have someone put chairs there for us. Not only was this done, but the entire deck was cleared of several inches of snow, making it perfect for us.

We did not know how crowded things would be because of the eclipse and thus brought a cooler w/food for our trip. This worked out perfectly for us, especially because it was the off-season and many places/restaurants were closed.

We had originally booked 3 nights at this place through Airbnb. We were excited as we had plans with our family and was a perfect location to do winter activities. The Host was responsive, which I always appreciate. Our stay was booked for Dec 23-26 (studio with a fireplace). We heard on the news that weather was going to be bad that Friday, Dec 23 and we didn't want to be stuck driving on the 401 with bad snow conditions. So, I booked an extra night and the Host had no issues in taking that money.

We had arrived late that Thursday evening on Dec 22 and the keys were left in a box for us. As our place was up the stairs, we had to find some salt to put on the ground and steps, as we slowly unloaded our car.

The room was ok, cozy, suited for a couple, and had most things we needed. Once we settled in, noticed that we only had 1 set of towels and the fireplace was not working. I had messaged the Host that evening so, they would get the message and I could discuss with them in the morning.

Next morning, we woke up with a power outage due to high winds and snow storm during the night. There was no one at reception to ask questions, nor did I get a reply back from my email. We saw trees down and the power lines being fixed by the Quebec Hydro team but, we knew, the power would not be up any time soon. The weather was getting worst and we had to make a decision on whether to leave or stay and freeze OR, find shelter in a different location. It was the Christmas holidays and we had family plans.

We finally decided to leave, as we had a little window before freezing rain would arrive. We packed up and only when we were loading up the car, we saw a ground keeper of the place. He didn’t ask if we were ok, I just gave him back the keys and shook our heads with disappointment. I had monitored the power and it only came back the afternoon of Christmas day and the ski hills were closed until Dec 26.

I had sent the Host a message, hoping they would understand the situation and requested a partial refund. Close to 72 hours later, they declined, was advised it was beyond their control and they could not do anything further. No money back and to escalate to Airbnb. After 2 weeks of communicating with Airbnb, they too could not do much for me either, as, the Host lied to them about giving us a "candle and a heater". Not once, did they mention that to me when I had originally communicated with them before involving Airbnb. Why would they lie about that?

Although the weather was out of their control, they DO have control of the customer service they could have provided. I am not for one to complain but, this was just a horrible situation and they made it worst. They didn’t do the right thing. So, for that, I give them 2 stars.

Quebec ski hills closed early and very suddenly due to the Covid-19. Therefore we had to cancel our March Break family ski vacation and stay at le Montagnard. Pierre was a very understanding owner during a difficult time and is looking forward to hosting our family next winter. Our family is looking forward to a return stay at le Montagnard next winter. Great owner!

We stayed at this hotel believing the good reviews.
Here is what we found:

Housekeeping is poor, bedding cheap and wrinkled, the bedcovers have not been cleaned in a while they are grey and feel grimy, the sofas in the rooms need a cleaning (because they allow pets the sofa and carpet in the room are full of hair) and the rooms are stinky. The installations close up early. The airconditionning is VERY loud. The breakfast is not worth the price they charge. Go into town where they have a couple of GREAT places (we tried The Pleasant Cafe and highly recommend). The staff is ok. All installations are cheap.

Can't recommend even if the location is good. All around disappointing and expensive for the installations.

Good day, We take in note your comments but we are really sceptic concerning your appreciation of our services. I only have 2 questions concerning your review ... 1. Why a person decide to write a comment after a few months in an Hotel? 2. Why can't you find a good comment when it's practically impossible to have a "zero" in terms of appreciation on everything ? As a private owner of this resort and the time I spend at work, I frankly have some reserve towards your integrity. Sincerely, Pierre Thérien, Owner

I will start with the good. Our room was nice enough and the beds were comfortable. We were pleased when we first arrived with the accommodations and the staff seemed friendly.
Now on to our experience, to the hotel's credit we received an e-mail about a month before we stayed asking us if we would like to switch rooms to a downgraded room to save a small amount of money, because a large group "had access to a common room" below us and we wouldn't have to worry about noise. Well, we are an easy going group in our early 30's, who enjoy having some drinks and generally don't fall asleep very early while on vacation anyways so we figured if this group was loud until 12 or 1am this would not be an issue. We were very wrong.
The e-mail the hotel sent to us should have stated, we have to downgrade your room (even if against your will) because we have zero quiet hours, no night staff to help monitor what’s going on at the hotel, and if this common room is rented, they are allowed to do whatever they like.
The first night we realized our mistake as the walls of our room continued to shake until 4:30am. We didn’t understand that a group having access to a common room meant no rules at all regarding volume level or time they were allowed to use the room until (every normal hotel I’ve ever been to has some sort of quiet hours). We didn’t go talk to the group because we realized this could cause an issue. Instead in the morning we went and spoke with the hotel staff, acknowledging that we had decided to stay in this room, but informing them that we didn’t realize there would be no overnight staff to help keep things somewhat reasonable. We asked to change rooms and were informed there were no other open rooms so changing was not an option. We then asked the staff if they could just talk with the group and let them know that there are other people staying in the hotel and that they should be somewhat considerate and lower the volume to a reasonable level after 1am and if they could shut it off or keep it very low after 2am we would really appreciate it. The general vibe from the hotel was you are out of luck and there are no quiet hours so deal with it. We were even told to “turn up the volume of our TV” to try and block the noise.
On the second night at 3:30am we reached our breaking point and went down and spoke with the group. We politely asked if they could lower the volume and said we don’t need them to stop partying, just lowering it would let us sleep. The group then said to us that the hotel had told them that we had been warned and that since we had chosen not to give up our room, the hotel had said the music level was not the group’s problem. They were the larger group and that they didn’t need to turn the volume down. What kind of hotel informs another group about what they talk about with other guests, rather than just asking the all guests to please be somewhat considerate of it’s other guests? The group smoked in the room and hallways so our hotel room stunk like cigarettes the whole second night. They hung out in the hallway just outside our door, yelling and screaming, and right outside the hotel below our balcony and since the hotel doesn’t have a night staff person our only choice was to deal with it or cause an altercation. They finally went to bed around 5am and we only know this because we were up the entire time.
Our biggest complaint is that this hotel doesn’t have any sort of night staff around to monitor what’s going on. There are zero quiet hours and this group was allowed to use the hotel’s speakers and put their music up loud enough so that our room walls shook and there was nothing we could do about it. I have never stayed in a hotel with no quiet hours, but this one definitely has none. Also, the hotel chose to inform the group that we had been warned. We essentially should have been forced to downgrade our room because the hotel cares much more about pleasing a group than all its patrons. If you are looking for a hotel that you can do whatever you’d like at and not have to worry about noise complaints this is your place. It would work well for a bachelor or bachelorette party where there’s no supervision, but other than that avoid at all costs because they don’t care much about their guests. We essentially wasted our money on this room because none of us slept at all the whole weekend.
I also realized after looking back at our bill, for some reason they charged a 15% gratuity charge for the hotel room. Maybe this is normal?, but it wasn’t included on our first quote, but sure enough it is there on the second.
Another minor complaint that wouldn’t be notable if the rest of our experience wasn’t so bad, was that the breakfast was poor. They didn’t even have eggs, which they state they do, instead they had a few bagels.

Hello, First of all, I want to thank you for the time taken in writing your comment. I will be short ... I was the one who contacted you a couple weeks before the event which took place in the Hotel section (University of Concordia). If you remember well, I advised you that we were the Host of a large group and the only unit which wasn't reserved by the group itself in the Hotel section, was your room and the noise could be a problem. I offered you to give you another unit in a different building and you refused stating that "we are still young and we don't care about the noise". Well, well ... Next time I should be more staight forward and avoid those kind of comments. Have a great day anyway!

We stayed in condo 1 for 3 nights of skiing and boarding at Sutton. We were part of a larger group that took 2 condos (1 & 13) and one hotel rom. The condo unit #1 is acceptable and has the basics, plus a few things. We were a party of 6 in that unit. The 2 bedrooms are extremely small. There is insufficient room to have your bags in the room and still walk around the bed. The beds are acceptable, with clean but inexpensive hotel-chain sheets and blankets. Both small rooms have queen beds. The closets are all but useless as they are so small. The gas fireplace is nice. The kitchen area is getting tired. The plywood cabinets are pulling off the wall and none of the doors close properly. The cooking utensils, cutlery and glassware are all acceptable. The bathroom is large, clean and functional. The 2 pull out double sofabeds are unpleasant for adults, but probably OK for kids. One couple of the 3 chose instead to sleep on an inflatable queen bed we had with us. You have to exchange dirty towels yourself, in the lobby. We had to ask for toilet paper. It is a very short drive to Mont Sutton, and a shuttle bus operates on weekends and school breaks. The hot tub is fine but closes at 9pm each night. We did not try the bar or continental breakfast.

My girlfriend and I stayed at one of their studios with a fireplace for a couple of nights. The room was nice, clean and warm. It had a kitchen, great for light cooking, and a fireplace with a complementary log. It was very close to Mont Sutton (though it does not have direct access to trails as some B&Bs on the mountain do). We paid under $400 for 2 people, 2nights' lodging + 2 1/2 day ski pass to Mt Sutton. The staff was also very nice. We are planning another visit soon.
