We arrived during major renovations to ~ 50% of the room capacity of the hotel. The main dining room was closed two out of four nights, you had to walk outside in winter to get to the pool, and the electricity to the building was cut off one evening from midnight to 6:00 am.

We badly needed to get away from grey-brown urban heavy snow... Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello has been the perfect getaway, just a short drive from the city. Sunshine, a mild -4 Celsius for cross-country skiing (complimentary like countless other activities). And a piano bar

The hotel is under construction, which might account for the good rates right now. It wasn't at all bothersome, except that you have to go outside to get to the pool and gym. No big deal. The pool is wonderful. Snowshoeing was perfect, right after the big snowstorm last week.

A lovely peaceful place that the family enjoyed. We loved the family husky ride, a morning skate together and its proximity to Parc Omega is superb. The rooms are a little dated at the moment and they need upgrading...

When I stayed there you had to walk outside to get to the pool, there was no way to get from the main building to the pool building using the connecting tunnel. If they have finished renovating the wing with the connection to the pool then you might be able to avoid going outside. I would contact the hotel directly to see how far along they are with the renovation.

On different trips, I have stayed in both the standard and signature rooms. The standard rooms are small, and the bathrooms are tiny. Don’t get me wrong - the place is wonderful, and I really like the Montebello. But we spend most of our time outside of the room, because it’s special features are really it’s grand public areas. In contrast, the signature rooms tend to be considerably bigger - not huge, but roomier - with some charming features (dormers, extra walls of logs, cool angles, nicer bathrooms), although it may depend on the exact signature room you get. I don’t think you can get two beds in the signature rooms (?) but at least some have a small sofa bed. In short, unless you need two bends, the Signature rooms strike me as being more worthy of an upgrade than is typical in a hotel upgrade situation. But you also may not be spending much time in your room because the pub;is areas are so nice.
