As other reviewers have mentioned the motel is older but the rooms were clean and the family that runs it were very accommodating. Somehow one of our rooms got cancelled and Alexandra came up with a solution. We brought our own food so didn’t try the breakfast. I did see the bagged breakfasts out each morning. The motels proximity to Basin Head Park is unbeatable.

My family and I traveled throughout PEI and stayed in several towns. Of all our stops, our favourite was at the Singing Sands Inn. The motel is situated in a very quiet part of the island, but you have everything you need nearby. The beach is just down the road (the best beach on the island, in my opinion, and there are a few stores and conveniences closeby in the town of Souris if you need. The staff was very helpful in pointing us toward a great local restaurant (the Sandstone), which is a short drive away.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. They are spacious and have a very nice view. Complimentary breakfast is available in a large dining room which is adjoining a great common room filled with books to share, a large lounge complete with tv and movies.
Just a little added plus, my 5 year old left behind her little teddy bear and when I called the motel upon our return home, the innkeeper said he would gladly mail it back to us. We received it only days later. I would recommend this motel to any family traveling on a budget, who like clean and quiet accomodation near a fantastic beach!
This motel is very family friendly, has an nice outdoor pool and playpark on a large property where kids can run and play.

We were in a pinch and this was available the breakfast was pretty good, with the standard fare (toast, muffins, cereal, etc.). The beds could have been a bit better. The shower had a strong spray but the temperature fluctuated. If all you need is a place to sleep, you can't go wrong here.

Hello Stephanie, We recall your visit! Especially since were were expecting two adults with two small children that turned out to be teenagers! While we expect people to acknowledge older children for the extra person charge (as clearly communicated in your confirmation), as a courtesy to your daughters at check-in we did not make an issue of it. We are glad you found our breakfast acceptable and will welcome you when you choose to stay with us again.

As noted in other reviews, that the SInging Sands Inn is a bit dated is obvious as soon as one walks through the front door. However, this characteristic is reflective as well of the "old-time" personal service that made it one of the highlights of our tip-to-tip cycling tour of PEI. We had 2 rooms, both on the second floor (#3 with A/C and another with 2 beds without A/C), which were clean, and stayed for 2 nights. The location is great, on a hill overlooking the road to Singing Sands Beach / Basin Head which is a 10 minute walk or 1 minute drive. Hummingbirds flock to the feeders outside the dining room windows. However, the best attribute is the hospitality of the owners, Don and Alexandra and their son who was working there for the summer after finishing graduate school. Two examples: 1) on our full day at the inn we went fishing and caught numerous mackerel. Alexandra offered to cook them up for us for dinner, and they were absolutely delicious. 2) The next stop on our cycling tour was Georgetown, approximately 35-40 miles down the coast. Don offered to drive us there as it was raining. We initially refused, but after the 7 mile ride to Souris, 2 members of our family did not want to ride further; Don subsequently drove from the Inn to Souris, picked them up, and drove them the rest of the way to Georgetown - refusing either money directly or for gas.

Singing Sands is an inexpensive motel, and it doesn't really profess to be anything different. What it boasts is a great, convenient location, just down the road from Souris, East Point Lighthouse, Basin Head Beach (down the road, mind you, it's not exactly walkable) and the Îles de la Madeleine ferry. These are not luxury accommodations. The room is standard, basic. The breakfast is mostly a toaster and a bread. But they offer low rates, fine service and, again, that location. If you do not like to stay in motels, don't stay in this one.

Thank you, buffyslayergal, For getting us off to a good start for the 2015 season! Breakfast now has yogurt and fruit and cereals, but not to quibble; it’s still basically a nourishing cold continental with toast and muffins and lots of coffee or tea. You have made a good point that this is motel accommodation despite our name and although we possess some inn-like qualities, our strengths are not in the fluffiest pillows, boudoir bedchambers or antiques. You get a gold star for describing us well! More can be found on our website at singingsandsinn.ca. Alexandra and Don McCallum

Can't say enough good things about the owners. The rooms are dated but very well kept and clean. The only problem is that our bed was uncomfortable and the pillows need replaced. They offered a light continental breakfast in a dining room with big windows that had a beautiful view. I think the motel has a lot of untapped potential.

Very close to a great beach. I was expecting better from the reviews on here. The room was very dated, but clean. The tap in the tub dripped constantly. The worst part was the musty smell in the room, maybe a dehumidifier would have helped. The breakfast was adequate. We would have loved to swim in the pool it looked very nice, but the mosquitos almost carried us away!

July, 2013, gave us more than the usual amount of rain and high humidity. That was a downer for some of our guests on the lower level where the coolness is often appreciated on hot days. We do have dehumidifiers and would have provided one if asked. The pool is an outdoor pool and, like the grass labyrinth, is on occasion frequented by mosquitoes. Despite those inconveniences we appreciated your stay with us and we’re sorry you didn’t get to swim in the pool.

We booked an early season stay and found this place very worthwhile. Although weather was not great (nobody's fault!), we had the beaches to ourselves (Red Point and Little Harbor are close to Basin Head and you can camp/picnic/party at either), were in good proximity to Small Hall events, and were treated so well by the McCallum family. The breakfast was a refreshing change from the sharp elbows deal we're used to- folks were engaging and friendly, encouraged by Don. Importantly, coffee is good.
View from our room was beautiful, the labyrinth fun & unique, the pool was perfectly bracing on the one warm day we had, and the value overall excellent. You don't get the stale cigarette, stained linen thing at all here, so never mind the disdaining comments. It isn't a new place, but it is entirely clean and quiet. Great hosts!

We stayed during July 2010 for two nights. One night in a room with a kitchen and the next night in a no-kitchen room.

First of all, the building is really, really OLD. You can smell, taste, see and feel the age of the place. The lounge is full of VHS tapes and the insulation is horrible.

Our first room with kitchen pots, pans, utensils, stove, etc was the only one available at the time, but we didn't need any of the stuff. The stove looked like it was from the 1970s. The tv was turn knob style with 2 watchable channels and produced a horrible high pitched whine while on. You cannot watch tv without going crazy from the sound and blurriness.
We tried the internet, it was continually disconnecting and consistently slow and bad.

The unit had cold water condensation all over the washroom floor, luckily we had brought our own slippers. The heating element along the baseboard by the door of the room did not work. The windows let drafts in and bugs as well. My partner couldn't stand all the mosquitoes that got in the room and slept outside in our car for the entire night.

Breakfast was uninspiring, bland and dry. Toast, coffee, juice, muffins and that was it. Rubber processed cheese was available with toast. My wife had the burnt coffee. I filled myself up on juice and muffins.

The second night was slightly better but only marginally so. No heating, but it had less bugs.

We chose this place for its proximity to the Singing Sands beach, but my advice is to stay elsewhere and visit the beach on your travels.

We are clearly accredited as 2 ½ star accommodation and it pleases us that many guests consider us a real find, especially those who enjoy our eight-acre property, the swimming pool, hot tub, and our Kingsboro Labyrinth, the largest Baltic style grass labyrinth in North America. We have lovingly been Innkeepers for 20 years (average 2011 rates for 2: $89.00/night), and it hurts us to be trashed for our vintage VCR tape collection, our old TV’s and humid weather (We wish we could control the weather). The last available unit we had when the couple arrived was an ‘housekeeping unit’, of the kind for many years eagerly sought by those who wanted to cook for themselves (no longer offered). Our complimentary continental breakfast includes juice, cereal, muffins, toast, and cheese slices, popular with many guests from Quebec, coffee and tea. Bacon and Eggs are available for purchase. Perhaps the criticism had something to do with the mosquitoes and such– the “bugs” that are indigenous here -- which brought us to offer an alternate less costly room on our upper level for the second night this couple stayed with us. It saddens us to find unhappiness at a place like this, in the peaceful PEI countryside where it doesn’t really matter whether or not you have traveled the world. We have ourselves, and we are happy to share our Singing Sand s Inn with others who enjoy relaxation and the proximity to the Singing Sands Beach, a white sand beach free of commercialization.

Location alone makes this the place to stay if you want to spend your time at the beach. We had a second floor room and you can see the tops of the buildings at basin head from your window. The staff were very friendly and approachable if we needed anything I wouldn't hesitate to ask. We arrived at supper time and ate in Souris then walked the beach in the evening and were checked out and back at the beach by 10am so we didn't spend much time at the motel. There is a pool and labyrinth on site which we didn't access but were told about. The rooms are dated (which really doesn't matter to us). Our little girls thought the pink bathroom was very cool. The motel was very clean. The breakfast is simply toast/bagels/cereal and yogurt so if you are looking for something more than that you may want to go into town.
