Proprietors Chef Michael Smith and his wife Chastity Smith are proud to welcome you to their end of the island. For Michael, coming back to the Inn is a return to his roots as a chef. For seven years in the 1990’s, he manned the stoves here, finding his culinary voice and bringing international fame to a sleepy country inn. For Chastity, being an innkeeper allows her to share her Maritime roots, stylish design flair and love of entertaining with you and your family. Together they’ve graciously re-launched the Inn with a brand new spirit of hospitality and their shared goal of becoming one of the world’s leading culinary tourism destinations. Michael is a Canadian superstar chef with an international reputation for simple, sustainable home cooking. He is the author of 11 cookbooks and has starred in 5 different Food Network series. Michael's cooking shows are seen in more than 100 different countries around the world. In 2021 The Inn at Bay Fortune debuted a new FireWorks Feast, our own cookbook, new Fire Garden, experimental chefs garden, immersive forest trails, Mushroom Patch, Apple Orchard and many other features. We’re even welcoming our own flock of free-range hens so you can enjoy farm-fresh eggs for breakfast!

Detailed Reviews
Booked a standard room in one of the towers and were pleased to be upgraded upon arrival. The upgrade was to a courtyard room with fireplace. Robes, slippers, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, hair dryer, wall mounted bath products, iron and ironing board - everything you would expect. There is a clock and a tv in the room as well.
Due to Covid, room are only cleaned when you leave. There is an informative pamphlet in the room which explanations some of their Covid precautions as well as walking paths on the property.
Breakfast is delivered to the room in a wooden "carpenter's tool box". When you arrive, you give your breakfast order of coffee/tea and one of two breakfast bagels. When ordering you also chose one of several delivery times. Included in the tool box is fresh apple juice, yogurt with compote, nuts and fruits, cinnamon buns a bowl of strawberries and, of course, your hot breakfast sandwich. Eating breakfast was a bit awkward, no table however when we checked out we were told there should have been a table and the reception made a note for the housekeeping staff. We topped off our breakfast with the lavender truffles left hanging on our door the night before.
When we checked out, we were gifted with a loaf of their special bread.

A bucket-list experience! We stayed overnight in room #5 which had a nice living-room, was beautifully appointed and had the most comfortable bed ever; absolutely no detail was overlooked. The 4 hour Fireworks Feast experience is a must-do and worth every penny. Chef Michael Smith hosted the evening and had his hand in everything from shucking oysters to helping plate the meals. He also gave a lovely welcome speech, as we toasted with sparkling wine on the front lawn overlooking the bay. Friendly professional staff made for a memorable Island experience. Just do it!

We were greeted by a staff member named Patrick in the parking lot and he helped carry our bags to our North tower room. Our room was bright and spacious with a small deck looking out onto the water, a fireplace and a jacuzzi tub. The bed was very comfortable. The oyster hour was underwhelming. I got a single oyster and drinks were overpriced so that was a bit of a rip off. Dinner was superb. A real culinary experience, that was extended around the fire pit as we roasted marshmallows. Great inn. Courteous staff.

Thank you for visiting us and enjoying the FireWorks Feast. I'm sorry to hear you missed the other stations at the Oyster hour and the unlimited oysters. We hope that join us again.

The check-in was very pleasant, we were greeted by Chastity Smith, who is one of the owners, which was very nice. The person working that evening was also pleasant.
We were shown to our room which was small but nice. Everything was what I expected like the last 3 times when we checked in to our room,
I noticed in our room that we did not have enough firewood and also the we had no tissue paper, no big deal. I went to the front desk and asked if we could have these items put in our room or at least outside our room door.. I was told that it would be done. Which is what I expected from our last stays here. When you're paying $450 a night for a room, you do expect that your requests are met within a reasonable time frame.
We left to attend the Farm tour and appetizer courses. We got back about 1.5 hours after and still nothing and my request was never actioned.
It's no big deal if you're just renting a room with no expectations, but like I mentioned you're paying for an experience and it was a bit lacking in this visit
The appetizers and the feast itself were very good. But for the price of $175 per person, I think that all N/A drinks with the meal should be free of charge.
I ordered a soda water and was charged $3.00. It just does not seem appropriate to charge extra for a small beverage like that.
We had a plumbing issue with our room at around 10:00 pm. The person we reported the issue with was very proactive and someone took care of it.
We were given another room and moved to it. The room we went to was smaller than the last room. We had a really nice fire going in the room we vacated and we were told that a fire was waiting for us in the other room. No fire in the fireplace.
These may seem like petty little things but it dampened our experience and comfort.
The breakfast the next morning was delivered and dropped on our doorstep with a very bored yell of," Breakfast!" No good morning, or nothing. That was something that I've never experienced in my last visits.
I know that the Inn can do better!! I understand that the pandemic was challenging in obtaining all quality staff, and there were some that were excellent!! but don't charge the full price until you can offer the same level of service that is expected from returning guests and all guests for that matter.
I'm not sure that a fifth stay will be in our plans. But we'll see.

FYI - I have contacted the Inn via email and on Facebook messenger about this issue but have not received a response.
We were not served half of the items listed on the Oyster Hour menu. Due to bad weather, the Oyster Hour was held inside. We did see plates of appetizers being served to seated tables in a different room. We asked waitstaff about this but received a noncommittal response. We were then required to pay for the full meal - a discount was not offered. The meal itself is extremely overpriced - you are definitely paying for the experience. And if the weather is bad, the experience is significantly impacted.

We visited the inn this past weekend for the feast on Saturday . We drove in from Halifax , leaving very early in the morning due to the forecasted heavy rain. When we arrived we assumed we were to check in at the main Inn, when we arrived here we were told differently, and advised that we needed to check in down the road. (This would be a good thing to note on reservation ). No issue , my husband asked could he have a cookie and the 2 ladies at the desk told him no they were for the guests at this Inn he could get one down the road I assumed since we booked on the website we were a guest at this Inn. It almost made me feel that the Inn at Fortune Bay accommodations were second fiddle to the main building . It was off putting and should be noted that cookies should be available for any guest who should want 1 regardless of the building they are in. Small things make the biggest difference when you are in a 5 star Inn paying well over 1k for an experience We are well travelled and have to say it was a first
Now on to the good part. The employees at the INN DOWN THE ROAD were fabulous and made up for the employees at the main location. They could not have been nicer . Our room although small was well appointed, with much thought put into the detail.
The Feast was the highlight and not to be missed even in the pouring rain. It was one of the best culinary experiences we have had and would bring me back to spite, the 🍪 incident It was incredible and we loved it as did our travelling companions who did not stay on property

We booked 3 nights at the Inn and were roomed at the Inn at Fortune Bridge, sister property some 1 1/2 km from the Inn at Fortune Bay. Dinner access to the Inn was by 1957 Bentley, a fun treat. Service was excellent, but room was somewhat underwhelming, based on the price of $550 plus tax

I had a beautiful comfortable room with delightful views. Nothing more to say other than this is a delightful inn with several buildings, all reminiscent of Cape Cod style. Very polite staff. I intend to go back. Advance reservations recommended as this place fills up extremely early.

Beautiful and stylish accommodations. This is not your typical hotel. We stayed at the sister property THE INN AT FORTUNE BRIDGE. The old corner store was transformed into the hotel, so rooms and entrances to the rooms are very unconventional. We were given a room on the first floor next to the bathroom. We only stayed for 1 night, but every time someone would go to the washroom I felt that this person will walk into my room i guess due to little noise isolation. So make sure to find out exactly which room you are booking.

+1
The Inn at Bay Fortune lives up to its five star rating. From the welcome centre to the restaurant to the entire staff the Inn is exceptional. We spent 3 nights at the Inn and enjoyed every moment. Chef Michael Smith is a very approachable & genuine host and you can tell that he honestly cares about your experiences on his property.
Do not go to this property without doing the Farm Tour & Fireworks Feast. It is well worth every penny. The Tour is very informative, Farmer Kevin & all the staff are very knowledgable and love their jobs. You will learn about the foods you will be eating at the feast and why those particular foods are chosen.
The Feast also includes appetizers before hand after the farm tour that consists of several different stations that have things like smoked salmon, seared tuna, a mini taco bar & oysters....lots & lots of oysters. Don't be shy, eat as many as you want, they will just keep shucking them until you have had tour fill. We were very fortunate to have Chef Michael suggest that we do the farm tour & appetizers the day before the feast because it was supposed to rain on our feast day. We took his advice & were very happy we did....there was so much food to try that I don't think we would have had room to eat the feast dinner on the same day. This brings me to the feast itself. Basically everything you are served is grown on the farm are sourced nearby and the quality of the ingredients stand out in the flavours. From the salad course to the dessert, everything was exceptional. I tried many different foods that I had never had before and every single thing that I had was spectacular. I believe that this may be the best meal I have ever had. Watching the care & attention that Michael & his team put into the feast makes it a truly wonderful experience.
The rooms at The Inn are also very nice & wonderfully decorated & comfortable. The king sized bed, large bathroom & living room are all great.
This place should be on every "foodies" bucket list, but it is also a great place for couples to re-connect.
A truly wonderful property and uniquely Canadian experience.

I think it depends on the room. We were in one of the tower rooms and it looked like there was a pull-out sofa along with the King bed. Best to inquire.
I agree w above answers - the Feast is a lengthly huge meal, little ones would not do well.
Absolutely. Well stocked and ready for any celebration.
Hi there Angela,
Thank you for your question but no, we do not accept animals due to the allergy factor with guests coming in to our rooms after the pet is gone. I love animals too.
