Our unique accommodations are vintage Canadian-built cabooses & boxcars, authentic on the outside, redesigned and developed into private deluxe suites on the inside with reflections of their railway past throughout. We also maintain a vast and eclectic gift shop, as well as a locally roasted coffee bar & cafe in the original 19th-century train station, built circa 1887. Our guests can enjoy local craft beers & meads from our Baggage Room Bar and live music nights on our railway platform. During your visit, our 565-foot & 400-ton train remains a dominating sight to see within the village of Tatamagouche as you experience our property or stroll along the old rail bed (now the Trans Canada Trail) that meanders alongside our not so forgotten railyard. My 5 year old had a ball here! We stayed in Caboose #6 and he loved exploring all the nooks & playing with all the levers. You could even hang from the ceiling! The decor is dated and there was a bit of a musty smell, but nothing that really bothered us. As an adult-sized person, the shower was my biggest complaint. It was super tiny and the shower curtain really needed a good cleaning. The bed was comfy enough, but I'm not so sure the futon pull-out in the living area would have been (we didn't use it except as a couch). Everything on Main Street, Tatamagouche is in easy walking distance (even with little legs) and the Inn literally sits at a trail head for the Great Trail. We had breakfast (take out) from the Inn's restaurant and enjoyed our waffles and breakfast sandwich outside in the cute cafe area. Our Caboose didn't have outdoor seating, but many of the other cars did. The grounds of the Inn are a literal playground for kids with tons of cars to explore and poke around. It's also a great spot to have pictures taken. Had no trouble with wifi. Despite a tumble off his bike (we really wished there'd been a 1st Aid kit on site - no bandaids to be found), my little guy had so much fun we will likely return another year!

My husband and I stayed in caboose number 5 on September 29 the. Our room was perfect and decorated with period items but had all modern conveniences. The washroom was spotless and had wonderful thick towels. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed eating our snacks in the cupola. A walking trail right beside the track was a great place to wander in the evening and the morning. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is a sweet little gift shop on site. Would recommend as a must go to in Nova Scotia.

This was by far the most unique, coolest hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms all have their own special touch, there's the fun of eating in the dining car, and a converted lounge, as well as a coffee shop, souvenir store, and bar at the station, and an outdoor play area for young children. It was fun to explore and relax at. The town doesn't have a whole lot for a young family, but situated alongside the hotel is the TransCanada trail which makes for peaceful exploration of the area.

Staying on a train sounds pretty cool. I don't regret staying but definetley don't think the value is there. We are two couples who stayed two nights at the cost of $449 plus tax. Let's start with the cabooses. They are very dated and need maintenance badly. Exterior could use a fresh coat of paint, the weeds could be weedwacked, there was a hornets nest on the deck, the deck needs to be stained, lights are burnt out and I could go on. In terms of the inside, it is not very comfortable. We barelly slept and I am exhausted as I write this. All the beds are hard and the single beds were on a slant. Only one pillow on those beds. The appliances are from the period - old coffee machine, old square TV, old mini fridge, old alarm clock. I mean if your into that then great. I just think at the price we paid ($449 plus tax for 2 nights), I would like a decent coffee maker a couple more pillows. In terms of amineties, we didn't eat at the restaurant, which offered take-out, but we did get coffee and muffins from the coffee shop and it was just so so. The shop has tons of kitchy souvenirs / trinkets including shot glasses with boobs covered by a bikini which have weed leafs on them. I think you get the idea. I think it we paid maximum $150 a night, it would of been ok but I feel ripped off. I will never go back.

What a fun and unique stay! We stayed in Caboose 10 which was great for two people. The check-in process was easy and the lady who showed us around the caboose was very friendly. I really adored the whole town, too.
Caboose 10 only had air conditioning in the main room, so the bedroom got a little warm at night, but nothing unbearable.
Tip: pack light! It was much easier to have a backpack for the night rather than try to haul up too much luggage. Also, hit up the Chowder House down the street if you have time.

Ever wanted to sleep on a train? Here’s your chance. This train station and group of cars is a labour of love for its owner and staff. Each car has been renovated and restored to provide a range of accommodation from single/couples to family groups.
The staff in the station handle check ins and mind the store. When you check in, you get a personalized tour of the site and your car. Note: People with mobility issues may find entering and exiting the train a challenge.
My train (#7) was a single/double. The bed was extremely comfortable and the car was spacious. The washroom was very small and would have been a tight fit for a larger person. The living area was basic. The wifi did not work well at all the entire time I was there. I was unable to use the smart television that was provided to watch any of the streaming services. However, there was a warning about this when I booked my stay. If anything, better wifi would make a huge improvement to the site.
There is a public hiking / 4x4 trail along one side of the site which can be quite noisy at times but eases off at the end of the day. The site is popular with tourists who come to see the trains so be prepared for photographers.
There is a dining car on site and reservations are recommended. The food is excellent and the experience is unique. Many of the baked goods are prepared on site in a tiny kitchen in one of the cars (amazing!). There is also a coffee shop and gift shop on site.
While there, don’t miss taking a ride on the train bus where you will get a 25-30 minute tour of the town and a ride over the old rail bridge. Fun for any age!
Overall a lovely and unique experience - well worth the trip.

This was our first time visiting, and really enjoyed staying somewhere unique. We stayed in Caboose #6, and spent some great time up in the cupola relaxing - good view of the Canada Trail, which runs right outside the door, and runs along the river. Very close to the main street in Tatamagouche, easy walking distance. Highly recommend staying.

Adorable and unique experience for all ages! Sleeping arrangements within caboose #4 looked like a homey cottage, exactly as it looked online. Master bedroom was surprisingly large and had AC. Kids enjoyed the bunks. Everything was clean and the staff friendly. We ate in the dining car and it was delicious, inc dessert. We were lucky enough to be visiting during raspberry season and I had their famous raspberry pie. It’s unique for having whole fresh raspberries mixed into a cooked gel, and there is no top to the pie. It was very good. Portions are reasonable. Train station itself is a cafe/gift store and the platform is a social gathering place.I enjoyed coffee on the platform in the morning, and nabbed a train magnet for my fridge. Town itself is cute. We walked the trans Canada trail, and browsed the
Main Street. Only drawback was lack of breakfast options, but that may have been bc of the bakery’s vacation week.

Wonderful experience! Visiting this hotel is like stepping back in time, with the opportunity to learn about the old railroads. This was my surprise for my husband, who turned into a little kid when he saw that he could climb up with his beer into a second level to survey his surroundings. Queen bed was very comfortable. We had a little room in the front with twin beds which was a great place for one of us to read while the other slept. My only complaint is that the shower was weird. Tighty righty, left loosy did not apply. We couldn't tell which faucet was hot and which was cold, but we were able to get a lukewarm, faint trickle to come out. Because the place was so quirky and cool, we weren't bothered about it, as we might have been in a boring big chain hotel. The dining car was fully reserved for the night when we got there so we walked next door and had a nice supper.

We stayed here overnight and what a great night it was. Music and drinks on the beautifully decorated platform, dinner in the dining car which was delicious, then off to bed in caboose #8 which was super comfortable with all the amenities. As a train nerd I was ridiculously excited at the prospect of staying here and it didn’t disappoint in any way.
