I booked the place based on price. I should have read and believed the reviews on here. The location is great, the ocean front views are the closest on the island. But this is no 5 star place. The room is comfortable and the AC is cold.... There is no hotel breakfast. There is no maid service, thanks COVID. There is no internet. Internet! The staff I have interacted with have been great. It’s just an old family owned kinda place. Kinda run down and tired looking. Nothing unsafe or dangerous. Just worn out.
Room is relatively clean but..... Tv did not work, no wifi, rooms not cleaned every day, no real cups for coffee, just thin plastic cups you find in bathrooms, not suitable for hot coffee. Chipped toilet seat, missing door chain, just seems run down Upside was the young staff were nice, I guess this place is for the fisherman using the pier otherwise I would not recommend or stay again
Topsail Beach is so pleasant. Jolly Rogers Inn was a hidden little gem. Not fancy, old time beach motel, but clean and comfortable. It has 3 levels but ask for 2nd or third level. First level has no view although it is ocean front. 2nd level has a great view and is the beach access level. You do have to go up some steps for 2nd level. Even though steps are hard for me, it was worth the extra effort. I asked for first level and they didn’t tell me it had no view so I was glad they gave me a second level. Beds were comfortable but bring an extra pillow. COVID restrictions were in place and they didn’t enter the room once you moved in. Fresh towels were given each day in a bag. Few people on the beach was nice. I would definitely return. I gave them a 4 rating only because they didn’t tell me the first floor had no view. Well worth the price for an ocean front room.…
I didn't expect much from the Jolly Roger Inn, and in that respect, it didn't disappoint. We stayed five nights, had our trash removed from the room twice. Got fresh towels twice. Never had the sand vacuumed from the carpet, yes that's right, carpet. In a beachside motel. Very old, moldy smelly carpet. The odor of the room was nearly unbearable. Why so much sand? There was not a working outdoor shower near our room. No place to rinse off. Maid service nearly non-existent. When we complained, we were simply told that several others had also complained. My favorite part, was when my husband went to the pier office to get a cup of coffee because our room coffee pot was so terrible. After spending $1,465 to stay and spending $120 more to fish from the pier, the man at the restaurant there POURED THE COFFEE BACK IN THE POT when my husband only had his debit card on him. They said the limit to use debit was $7. Poured the coffee back in the pot. We left a message for the owner. Have not heard anything back from him. We rented two rooms, and one of the rooms had tile floor. That room didn't smell, but strips of the ceiling were hanging down. This location is ideal! Right by the pier and the only motel on the beach on Topsail Island. Therefore, they can get by with the terrible service and overpricing. They literally have no competition. My room was a dump. Never get a room with the carpet. Ask for a room with a tile floor at least. On the bright side, Topsail Beach is a haven, the pier is great and there are fabulous restaurants, and even a wine bar with live music next door. Location is perfect.…
It is by far anything I remember. I am totally disgusted. I feel so gross when I get to our next Hotel I need to head for the shower. Dirty isn't the word. The room needs a copy makeover. I took pictures and it's very sad anyone would allow a room to be available in this condition. We came to just relax. Watch the ocean but weren't happy for the less then 24 hours there. They even made us pay to stay but did refund the remainder of our stay. I hope they ran it up bc it was a very nice place to visit once upon a time.
