We needed to escape from Raleigh to any nearby beach. We booked one night here, and after a night's stay, decided to book another night. We'd booked a first-floor room, but my wife decided it was too dark and asked for upstairs. 30 minutes later, we were in a second-story room with better light. Our room was ridiculously clean, better than many of the bigs we've stayed in. Not a fingerprint, hair or grain of sand evident, and no 'old building smell'. The staff are all family and friends, and they're fabulous. Ask them anything about the island- where to eat, stuff to do/see, and they're on it like a best friend would be. The beach is a minute's walk away over the dune-steps. The pool is tiny but super clean. Don't forget to buy a hotel t-shirt before you go.... Brian will do ya a deal. ;) Go eat at Sears Landing- it'll blow you away!…
Convenient location. Right across from beach access. Lots of dining and shopping within walking distance. Reasonable prices. Clean rooms. Rocking chairs and benches readily available. Pool was not that big, but it was clean.
Our group of 5 had the opportunity to stay at the Island Inn for 2 nights in June, 2019. We all agreed that we would stay again. Personalized service, comfortable room and just steps from the beach. We walked into town and got takeout from Shaka Taco and brought it back and had dinner at the picnic tables. Rooms were very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Thanks so much.
I came for a solo trip for 2 nights. I wanted three things: peace, safety, and proximity to the beach. I got all at the Island Inn. I arrived at 1:00 p.m. because the girl who took my reservation 4 days earlier told me that rooms are often clean long before check-in (which is 3:00 or 3:30, I think) and she asked me what time I would like to arrive. I told her one o'clock. When I got here, the owner -- not the girl who took my reservation -- was on duty and told me my room wasn't clean. I recommend not expecting to have your room ready early, regardless of what you're told over the phone! My room was going to be cleaned next, so I went to the beach while I waited. I was in room 12, upstairs and tucked away in a corner. The inn has been lovingly restored. It has charm and character. It's probably reminiscent of what everything on the island looked like years ago before all of the big, expensive houses were built. The woodwork inside my room was lovely and practical (and put here by the owners). I loved the little sitting alcove that has a wicker table and two chairs. I found the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice -- the shower had good water pressure. My room had 3 windows and was very pleasant and clean. I didn't hear anything going on outside. Each room is supposed to have its own picnic table. I'm not sure mine had one, but there were 2 near my door and I used one of them. In spite of my door being closed and locked, I was still able to smell cigarette smoke that was seeping inside from the people smoking on the balcony. Part of it, I think, is that my room was tucked away and it was easy for odors to get trapped around my door. I understand that the property doesn't have a good place for people to smoke away from the premises. That might be a goal for the future, but for the most part I observed that guests were respectful of the smoking rules. The owners have thought of everything and try to provide good accommodations for their guests. Linens are fresh, soap is provided, and there's even a place outside to put plastic bottles for recycling. You can wash your feet and sandals downstairs, and there are a broom and dust pan near each door if you happen to track sand into your room and want to get it out. Talk about proximity to the beach! It's right across a (not busy) street and the access stairs are right there; you can stand at the top of them and look down into the Island Inn parking lot. I could not ask for a better location. There is shopping and eating within easy walking distance. I like the New York Corner Deli right next door, and I recommend Topsail Island Popcorn Factory (free samples!). I felt very safe while I was here, and that is very important to a woman traveling alone. If I ever travel here alone again, I will want to stay here. I think it's perfect.…
This motel has lots of charm. Room was super clean. I was surprised at how quiet things were considering the location. Motel is within close walking distance of beach access and several good eateries and shops. The one downside for me was that the beds were not very comfortable.
