As we drove through Penola this beautiful pub stood out. It should be regarded as a national treasure along with it's chef Gail. Wow! The dining room was so welcoming and the pub grub amazing. My partner and I selected the deconstructed fillet mignon and the kangaroo in cabernet jus. MOUTH WATERING!!!! The food was so great we stayed a...

My wife and I thought we would head out for dinner on a Tuesday night, hence we took a trip to nearby Penola and Heyward's Royal Oak Hotel. The staff were quite pleasant and both of our meals were lovely, I was pleasantly surprised with my Veal Schnitzel with Satay sauce and would highly recommend this dish, while my wife...

Our group came for lunch on a Saturday and sat in the garden out the back. Aside from the caterpillars falling out of the tree, it was lovely and cool. It took quite a while to order all of the food but it came out in good time and everyone seemed satisfied with their meals.

Most old hotels have an air of sadness about them at their own faded glory. The Royal Oak manages to keep such as angst at bay. Without en-suite bedrooms it will always fall a little short but the four- poster beds in the double rooms keep up some style. The decorative features of this heritage listed building are well kept...

Travelling south we stopped for tea last Friday. Realising the food was the same price in the bar or restaurant we opted to eat in the restaurant. Had great steaks and good food for the kids. The portions were really huge and the service was dead friendly, and the whole place gave off a feeling that people loved the place...

We booked in for tea for four of us. Read reviews (good) and will take little notice next time. Very Disappointed, meals were over priced for what they are the salt and pepper squids especially. The Garlic bread was appalling certainly need some help how to do that. We were told that this place has two chef and ones good...

We had lunch at the "Royal Oak".A great dining room, friendly staff and excellent food made our luncheon a right royal experience. My wife had the "Prawn Penne Pasta with a creamy light chilli sauce" and I had the "Home made Beef & Burgundy Pie with chips & salad".Both meals were generous portions of very tasty, mouth watering food, and washed down with...

we walked down to Heyward's for tea and were shown into the Dinning Rpm. Being mid week it was quiet. The staff were polite and friendly. We chose the Chicken Parma and a steak. Both were cooked well and we enjoyed our meals. Great range of local wines on the wine list. Would eat here again.

Called in for a Friday night dinner and enjoyed an open fire in the traditional old restaurant. Menus were on the table, orders were placed at the bar, staff were very pleasant and helpful, and service to the table was reasonably speedy. A local cabernet shiraz- The Musician by nearby Majella winery was the house red and was both excellent...
