We had our first overnight visit at Tapoco this past weekend. We had been there for a stop along the road for a meal previously but had never experienced the lodge for a stay. First, I absolutely love places that are remote, rustic and historical - Tapoco checks all those boxes. The cabin room we stayed in, although having all the amenities takes you back in time. The lighting makes it very cozy and comfortable. Excellent bed and nice towels, soaps, etc - all top quality. We stayed where dogs were allowed and there was plenty of room for dog beds (we had 2) without tripping over them. I think they enjoyed the fireplace on the wall as much as we did. Ample spots to walk the dogs that were close by for nighttime. Plus some trails throughout for longer walks. We were there on a day where there was a 'river release' that brought in lots of people and lots of kayakers. Perfect spot on the outdoor terrace to watch them going down the river. It was chilly out but there are some tables with a fire in the middle to help keep warm. There are also fire pits located on the property. We also got to see their Christmas tree lighting complete with Santa Claus. We met lots of nice folks from all over many who had been there multiple times. After wanting to stay here for some time I can say it lived up to all of our expectations. We never left the property during our stay - it is so comfortable and relaxing why would we leave? There are spots nearby for outdoor activities but for me those are more suited for warm weather. We had all of our meals there and there was a small fridge in the room for leftovers. The menu has a good selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a bar with a tv and a complimentary coffee bar in the lodge. There was a bookcase with lots of games as well as books to read. Just so many touches to make you comfortable. Last but not least the staff here was incredible! Everyone we encountered was so helpful and welcoming, always assuring our stay was as perfect as possible. Thanks to all of them, especially Sherry, you gave us a perfect weekend. We hope to return another time. I highly recommend this place when you are in the mood to splurge on yourself a little. It was a perfect anniversary spot for us.

One of the cleanest hotels I’ve ever stayed at, it was nestled into the mountainside and cozy comfort. We stayed in a cabin, and I’m so glad we did! The bed linens were smooth, soft, and luxurious, and the complimentary bath products were from Hawaii. Right along the waterside, a wonderful dinner and perfect moments for pictures taking. Highly recommend!

Have been to Tapoco several times, including water releases. Great place and owners work hard at updating the facilities. We usually stay in the cabins and this year we noticed they have upgraded the bathroom by adding a walk in shower and great lighting. Staff is the best. They love their job and it shows. We plan on returning once again next year.

We stayed for our anniversary because we love the area and had dinner here once. The lodge is so nice and we love the history of the place. The desk staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was so clean and nice. The bed was extremely comfortable! The room has a Keurig, k-cups, creamer, sugar and bottled water for our coffee in the morning. The bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap and lotion that was such an added bonus and can be purchased in the lobby. The views at the lodge are just amazing! We had dinner by the water and the Margherita pizza was so good! They have a few fire pits around the property with wood for you to build a fire (with the help of a little kit from the lobby). We weren't able to have breakfast there, but hope to the next time we go. And there will be a next time! Overall, such a gorgeous, historic, clean place.

Everything about this stay at this beautiful lodge was perfect! I’ve traveled and stayed in many hotels around the world, and this is probably my favorite. From the aesthetics, inside, and outside, to the smallest details, and linens provided this place truly has won my heart. it’s the most comfortable place I have ever stayed. It is the cleanest place I have ever stayed. I saw a woman cleaning while I was there and she paid attention to every little crevice on the floor as she was cleaning. I am so impressed. I will definitely be back to this place because it is this place that made me fall in love with the surrounding area. Thank you so much.
I took two really fantastic videos of the hotel in the room but it’s not letting me upload those.

Wow that is awesome to hear! Our team members go above and beyond to keep our grounds looking nice and well kept. We are in the process of getting all of our Christmas decorations up, we would love for you to come back up and see how beautiful the lodge looks. The lodge looks like you just walked into a scene of a Hallmark movie! I would love to see the videos, could you email them to me? jaymee@tapocolodge.com Jaymee, Guest Services Specialist

We returned to Tapoco for Thanksgiving weekend after first visiting in 2017.
The Tapoco was nice then but it’s gone thru an amazing transformation.
First the people. Every single staff member we interacted with was kind and attentive. The General Manager, Valerie, runs a well oiled machine with attention to detail that was impressive. Spotless clean. She leads a team who worked together as a TEAM. They treated their guests as family.
Second the food. They have a nice Tavern downstairs which we enjoyed. But on Thanksgiving day we had one of the best Thanksgiving meals we have ever had.
We highly recommend the Tapoco as a get away destination.

We stayed in the Alcoa #2 cabin. The accommodations were clean and well maintained. I particularly enjoyed the 2 person, private hot tub on the secluded side porch. We had dinner and breakfast at the lodge and the food and service were both excellent. Call drinks, such as a Makers Mark Old Fashioned, were a bit pricey, but for the location and ambiance this is understandable. I highly recommend driving over to Tapoco from TN on 129 (known as The Tail of The Dragon), but avoid doing so on weekends during peak season to avoid knuckleheads on this world famous, very twisty mt. road.

My wife and I discovered the Historic Tapoco Lodge almost by accident through a Google search of the area. We were fortunate to be able to secure a reservation for a one night stay on our way from Indianapolis to Atlanta. The experience left us wishing we could have stayed longer and looking forward to a return visit. The Historic Tapoco Lodge is a gem and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were in the Sunflower Room which was beautifully appointed with a very comfortable King-size bed. Two comfortable occasional chairs were in the room and they reclined into even more comfortable positions. The bathroom was clean and highly functional. Lovely soaps, shampoo, conditioner and lotions were provided, along with plush, clean and highly adequate bathroom towels. There were even robes in the large closet. The room was controlled by a separate thermostat and could be made comfortable at the push of a button. When we entered the room, we were created by the sounds of birds chirping and the sound of water. Surprisingly, this sound came from a small "ambient sound" machine located at bedside. Easily turned off or on, it was a most pleasant "first experience" into our lovely room. Upon looking out our two large window in the room, we were able to see the flowage from the Cheoah River with the backdrop of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Truly, it was "picture perfect". The lodge and public areas were beautifully decorated with plenty of areas for conversation and relaxation. Books and games were available and the dining at the Tapoco Tavern was wonderful. We sat outside along the river while we enjoyed our meal. Of particular note was the most charming staff. In particular, Dave, who greeted us when we arrived, was ever-present with a friendly smile and accommodating our various questions. It is said that "good help is hard to find" and Dave is one of those "hard to find" folks! Not only is the lodge set among some of the most beautiful areas of our country, but the journey to the lodge will take you on a popular, very winding road (St Rd 129) otherwise known as "The Tail of the Dragon" to the lodge. Better take your Dramamine! Honestly, we will want to return. They have many cabins as accommodations; however, our experience in the Sunflower Room will have us returning! I also understand that the lodge has recently been acquired by a new owner. I sincerely hope they endeavor to retain the rich history, look and feel that they lodge has. What a gem and we look forward to a return visit!

It is decorated so beautifully, and as you mentioned the picture-perfect view of the Cheoah River, along with the sitting area in the room makes it so cozy. The highlight would be the nature trails specially the one that runs along the Chenoah river.
They have beautiful cabins. We had the one with an open jacuzzi and a fire pit outside. The place had a very energetic festive vibe. The food at Tapoco is fabulous. The pizza's were and the trout fish and chips were delicious. They have an amazing private bunker where we had our dinner and had another meal by the river.
The hotel staff is welcoming and Valerie was a fabulous host.

This is definitely our new favorite place to stay. It's such a unique and nice place in a beautiful setting right on the river. The service was outstanding, and the food was excellent. There is plenty of parking for trailers if you happen to trailer your bike/car to this location. There are several very nice hiking trails in the back of the lodge. We highly recommend this place.

I haven't stayed in either of those two rooms. If you are intent on using the jetted tub, I would call the lodge directly and ask them if that particular problem in those two rooms has been addressed and resolved.
Hi there! We do have WiFi. We only ask for a minimal charge of $3 to $24 depending on how many devices you'd like to connect and how many days. We find that most of our guest consider this reasonable!
If you all are willing to share space, but not beds, our Chilhowee Cabin would work great! We offer each room in our cabins separately. Chilhowee offers 2 separate accommodations, each would work for your group!
