Stayed here in an oceanfront room for a couple of nights in early October. Room was adequate, nothing fancy but clean. Bed was comfortable and enough pillows. Bathroom was clean, towels a little on the small side. Adirondack chairs on the balcony were a little low for us older folks. There was a take and go breakfast provided with fresh fruit, cereal and yougurt. Overall the apperance of the rooms and building were older but clean. They were in the process or repair work. Basic hotel but clean and a little on the pricey side.
There seems to be a consistent theme between recent reviews and my own experience. So I’m surprised that Choice Hotels hasn’t taken any action to make improvements to this hotel. Maybe it’s the relatively limited number of hotels in the area that keep people booking this hotel. If the supply and demand were more balanced, this hotel would go out of business. First, it’s important to give credit to the employees who really did provide good customer service despite the property problems. And another positive worth mentioning was the availability of food/snacks for breakfast which, during Covid, not every hotel would offer. The negatives of the place far outweigh anything else, and I would have probably felt more comfortable and less skeeved by sleeping in my car. The biggest issue was cleanliness. I’m not sure if they didn’t have enough employees to clean the place or if they didn’t have employees skilled enough to clean properly. The floors were sticky/slippery with some strange cleaning fluid residue, the bathroom had mold/dirt/hair, and there was a cheese doodle inside the coffee maker. The building (walls, stairs, fixtures) was in a poor state of disrepair including many areas of rust inside the room, cracks in the tub, mold/mildew/holes in the bathroom, a giant hole in a wall of the main room that looks like a first grader repaired it, and outside stairs that looked to me to be at risk of disintegrating from rust and plaster cracks. Luckily, for us, we limit our hotel stays to one night before checking into our weekly rental. If you are someone looking to stay for longer, PLEASE stay at a different hotel. Although the options are limited, there are much better places, even if you have to pay a little more. It will be well worth it. And perhaps if less people book their stays here, it will send a clear message to Choice Hotels.…
We stayed one night. There were holes in the wall. TOILET DID NOT WORK ALL NIGHT. We got no response for help from the front desk. We asked to speak to the manager. No phone call. Contacted corporate - nothing. Paid $250 / night AVOID THIS PLACE!!
It is a disgusting hotel. I booked because of the pictures I saw but totally opposite! I messaged for oceanfront view but they put us at the 1st floor looking over the parking lot, in front of ice machine that makes a noise. The room is so terrible! Cobwebs at the ceiling, water that takes forever to drain at the sink, dirty floors and rusty lamps. They need a renovation!
Don't stay here! There are better options in OBX. An hour BEFORE checkout, with the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door, housekeeping knocked and opened the door before my girlfriend and I could say that we were there. We were taking a nap before our long drive, so it took us a few seconds to call out. We had gone out at sunrise and returned to shower and nap before checkout. WHY would a housekeeping person intrude when the Do Not Disturb sign was up and we hadn't checked out?? It was an hour before checkout time! We were VERY upset with this violation of our privacy! So if you like having hotel personnel intrude while you're in your room with the Do No Disturb sign on the door, stay here. Otherwise, there are a multitude of affordable options in OBX where the staff won't enter your room uninvited.…
