Maddy et al. were absolutely fantastic and made our stay in Belize memorable. We felt right at home the moment we arrived. Lower Dover is a treasure, with its own little hiking path, swimming hole, animals and great people. Maddy is incredible helpful and just wonderful company as well. We'll definitely be returning for our next trip to Belize.

Our stay at lower dover was a coincidence because other hostels have been fully booked but we were really happy to end up there. The area with the jungle, the river and the maya ruins is awesome and so are the owners. They gave us a guided tour through the whole area wrt the jungle, plants, animals and the ruins....

This place is amazing. The lady who runs it is super nice, the accommodations are clean and well kept, and the land is peaceful with lots of opportunities to explore out the back door of your hostel. Plus they hooked us up with an amazing guide "Ben cruise" to see the ATM cave and turns out he is one of...

As a graduate student studying small tropical Belizean fish, I feel incredibly fortunate to have found the Lower Dover Field Station. Madeline and Bill, from the start, were incredibly warm and enthusiastic. Their lovely Field Station was primely located for my work in the nearby creeks and streams. Further, they were able to offer detailed background and guidance on the...

I had the most excellent trip to Belize and that was partly because of Lower Dover. The property is gorgeous and backs up to jungle paths, the river, and recently discovered Mayan ruins. The owners are fantastic and helped with all of my questions and concerns, they even help book tours and advised travel plans. I stayed in the bunk...

Close to the Western Highway but feels like a private oasis. Great place to visit in this area of Belize. There are Mayan ruins on the property without any of the hassle you experience at other sites. There is a river along the property that was fun for my wife and two daughters to swim in. My daughters are aged...

Myself and a friend travelled Central America for 6 weeks and this was by far the best place we stayed at during our entire trip. There are far too many positives to list them all, but the highlights were definitely the willingness to go above and beyond to help a couple of poor travellers, Maddie's homecooked meals, going for walks...

A perfect location to visit the ATM caves, but also a lovely place to chill out and explore the jungle. Service was very friendly indeed and is a great place to visit to contrast with the wonderful coastline. The 'coco' cabana was particulaly nice!!!

This review is about 11 months overdue. I spent 2.5 weeks at Lower Dover as a part of a fieldwork endeavor In February 2014. Bill, Madeline, Justin, and the rest of the crew went above and beyond the call of duty. I cannot say enough great things about them! If you are considering a vacation in Belize, you must stay...

This place is so excellent! Madrid and her family are so helpful and can organise anything for you! The food is delicious, veg*an friendly as well! Just as the bus driver to stop outside the lower dover sign and you can walk to the property (if you have a backpack) or get a taxi. Very nice :)
