Two years ago, my husband and I stumbled upon River House. We'd been visiting Ian Craven, master porcelain in his studio on the property, and asked where we could find a good meal. "Why, River House of course," he told us. They were booked solid, but managed to squeeze us in. After cocktails, canapés, and music on the porch of... More

River House is such a lovely, quirky B&B. We stayed many times years ago & we will not stay away so long again. Gayle is the most gracious B&B hostess imaginable. Lovely location & delicious restaurant!

We were staying at another nearby B&B and were directed to River House for dinner. We had an exceptional experience; the food, service and ambiance were wonderful! The wine list was very good as well. Based on our dinner experience we'll probably return for a stay at the Inn.

Wonderful breakfast , quiet area, friendly staff. Special thanks to the great lady from the housekeeping staff responsible for our room that responded to several requests in an outstanding manner. Dinner meal a little pricey but there are several good restaurants in nearby West Jefferson downtown area.

This is our 2nd visit here and we are in love with this place. We have taken the weigh station room both the times. It's small but very cozy and secluded. The room has a beautiful view of the greenery thru the glass doors. Jacuzzi in the room is my fav of all. The old lady who owns the place... More

We celebrated our first wedding anniversary at the River House - more specifically in the Wee Cabin - and loved absolutely every second. It was without doubt one of the most romantic trips either of us have ever been on. The supper on Sunday evening was absolute perfection - complete with some of the best live music in North Carolina.... More

My second trip to River House Inn...and won't be my last. A group of friends met at the Inn from several different states. The area makes a great base of operations for bike riding, shopping, and access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The best part was the ability to hang out and visit with folks in the library or on... It would be difficult to name just one thing we enjoyed most about our visit to River House. Everything was amazing! This was our first trip, but we hope to make it an annual tradition. We loved the accommodations at the "chicken house"..comfortable bed, delightful spa tub, coffee service delivered every morning and the tranquility of our walks and sitting... More

We spent 2 nights at the River House as part of a road trip through the mountains. From the minute we arrived, till the minute we left, Gayle made us feel welcome. The setting is stunning. There are no adjectives adequate to describe the beauty of the backdrop. Breakfast at the River House was generous- tasty and filling! The verandah,... More

A warm welcome (to piano accompaniment!) after a long drive, good home cooked food, lively conversation, an idyllic location by a peaceful stream amounted to an all too short a break in our road trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway, for which this is ideally located. A pot of hot coffee delivered to our cabin door early in the morning... More
