Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are far from the bustle of everyday life. There's a mile of riverfront for strolling, wading, tubing, canoeing and fishing. Brown trout and rainbows abound. Walking trails wind through 170 acres. Our uniquely decorated guestrooms are converted farm buildings and feature king-size beds, private bathrooms, jacuzzis, art, books and country antiques.

We needed a room to stay in on Aug 24th to attend a funeral on Aug 25th. We rented room 4 in the main house upstairs. The room had a single bed in a separate room from the main queen bed and 1 bath. It was a very comfortable room. My grandson slept in the single bed, and my wife and I slept in the queen bed, and our 126-lbs Greater Swiss Mountain Dog slept on the floor. The young ladies who were cleaning up the dining room were very pleasant and welcoming. The young lady who checked us in took us up to the bedroom and showed us around and then took the time to show us 2 other rooms in one of the empty buildings. All of the rooms are remodeled in the out buildings of the farm. The next morning, we had one of the best breakfasts I have ever had, which was included in the price of the room. I had a mushroom and shallot omelet, which was one of the best omelets I have ever tasted. This came with an English muffin and some of the best strawberry freezer jam I have ever tasted, plus fresh squeezedorange juice. My wife had a cheese and shallot omelet also with an English muffin and strawberry freezer jam, and my grandson had French toast. We had asked if they would allow us to bring our very well-behaved Swissie into the dining room if we sat in an out of the way table which they allowed. This place is a very relaxing, very affordable place to stay with a very friendly and personable staff. We do play to stay there again in the future.

My wife and I spent over 40 years in the hospitality industry and still own a hotel/restaurant, so we think that we don 't only have an eye for quality but also know very much what it takes to create it, maintain and make it last throughout any changes!
We had an Amazing time, cocktail at the bar as we arrived with our mid 20's daughter, we rented 2 cabines on top of the hill, dinner in the evening and breakfst the next morning.
What makes this homestead a remarkable venue is what as a group(owners and employees, backed up by a loyal and faithful community) created as an emotional impact. This place can only be enjoy wnile you trust the bounty of the surroundings and let yourself t be lulled by the kindness, attention and professionalism coming from every person you encounter throughout your stay.
I am trully dumfounded by this gem. It won't take long before you realize that Gael, Julie, Eno, and the rest of the crew are here only for your enjoyment and will not stop at anything to reach that goal.
"No" didn't exist during our stay they all went above and beyond to fufill every single of out request and for that we are upmost greatful.
Thank you.
It is really impossibke to have a bad experience even if you try to...
I Love life, good food , good wine, kindly orepare cocktail, genuine mountain decor and ambiance, but above all, I LOVE GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD SOULS AUTHENTIC PERSONALITY...I found it there in that little mountain valley and I thank God for his personal present, I had a blesed 2 days at the Riverhouse in Grassy creek. Thank you to all y'all ( easier for me to write than to say😊)
Thank you!

My husband and I had a fantastic weekend in this hotel and we can’t wait to go back...The owner, Miss Gayle is a lovely and attentive lady and along her staff, made us feel like part of the family. The breakfast and dinner were outstanding; so delicious and beautifully curated. We stayed at the Carriage House room and we enjoyed all the details in it; we truly felt like back in time in a peaceful retreat at the nature’s heart. We woke up at the birds singing and would take a few steps to the main house to enjoy the amazing breakfast that is included with the stay. We became fans of the herbs and cheese omelet but can’t deny that all the plates we tried were very tasty and memorable. We visited the Grayson Highlands State Park to see the famous wild ponies and truly worths the hike. If you love nature this trip should be on your bucket list!

The Inn under normal Pre-Covid circumstances could be described as a quaint, get away with a quiet atmosphere overlooking the river and the nearby mountains.
But with the situation as it is in NC, I was very disappointed to see little regard for the state mandated mask (facial covering rule) social distancing or special hygiene requirements. The staff on Friday night had no masks on, the overflow bar area was packed with people unmasked and the bartender had no mask. The guests overall were about 50% mask wearing but not in the restaurant. After driving 4 hours into the rural mountains we stayed despite concerns that lasted all weekend. Breakfast staff wore masks, the very friendly elderly owner did not have a mask on ever.... asking to sit outdoors was our best option for dinner but not allowed on first night, told "we would have to reset a table". One guest complained and the reply was the staff can't breathe with masks on. The room was very small, food above average but not sure I would recommend in light of the above Covid concerns. This pandemic and its dangers are real not a hoax. We probably should have just left.

Had a lovely 4 day stay here in Ashe Co. exploring the area and enjoying the friendly folks and fabulous food here! Stayed in the spacious Chicken House-once we figured out the gas logs which heated very thoroughly, we enjoyed our stay there more (chilly nights!). Rustic accommodation but very comfy king bed and 2 bathrooms! Thanks to Gayle Winston our delightful inn keeper. We will be back!

This was my first time to eat at this restaurant in the middle of the woods in the mountains. The restaurant is in an old house that has been fixed up to have elegant dining rooms with white table cloth and nice dinnerware. The server was very good as well. The menu has a few appetizers and desserts and I believe four entrees. For my entree, I had the grouper (a mild, broiled and baked fish) which included a small helping of chopped vegetables that were cooked perfectly - so delicious! The appetizer was butternut squash soup -- SO good! Then, dessert was bread pudding, which was good, but needed more sauce which was only drizzled on. I suggest you ask for extra sauce. Prices are a bit high, but the food is high quality and so delicious! There is a comfortable porch with rockers on front. Parking is a bit of a challenge when there are a lot of diners, but we managed to find a spot up the lane.

So, completely honest review, our vacation started out ROUGH. We had the carriage room, which I do not recommend. The jacuzzi was broken and the room smelled a little like mildew. HOWEVER after I brought these concerns to them they were quick to address our concerns and moved us to room 5 which was delightful and had none of these problems. The rest of our 4 day stay was magical. Breakfast was delicious every morning and our server couldnt have been better. We had a great time kayaking and I enjoyed relaxing on the porch swing. They bring you coffee in the mornings and leave it outside your door and that was an awesome way to start the day. They're pet friendly which was a huge thing for me and my pets had an amazing time too. The only criticisms I had once they moved us were personal preferences. The bed was a little firm but some people enjoy that, and they dont give out room keys which made my husband uneasy while we left to explore. Other than those things, everything was relaxing and magical! Definitely would visit again.

We went to the River House Restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. To begin with, we had reservations and expected to be greeted by a hostess who would either show us to our table or ask if we would like to get a drink at the bar while we waited. Instead, we were hurriedly ushered into the bar where we were asked what we wanted to drink with an assumption that we did want something to drink and then handed a menu and asked to decide what we would like to eat while we stood there. I thought before we decided on our meal, we would be seated and have some time to consider the appetizers, entrees and desert. We were OK with this and decided once we were seated things would get better but they didn't. When I made the reservation, I asked for a quiet spot since myself and my husband are hearing impaired. We were soon joined by a rowdy and inebriated group who were loud beyond the pale. One of the women in this group actually looked over at us as they were being seated and said, "I apologize for us in advance!" They ruined our dinner. I can't blame the restaurant for their behavior but since I had asked for a quiet spot, someone might have come and talked with us about the obviously loud and obnoxious group and asked if we wanted to move. The food was actually very good quality but the servings were tiny. I wondered if since we had come later in the evening if they had run out of food. For the price, I would have expected to have left the restaurant feeling satisfied but we were both still hungry and I never felt like our presence was really appreciated. I don't remember anyone checking on us during dinner other than to bring us the food. My final opinion is that if your main objective is to enjoy the bar and it hasn't been very long since you last ate and money is no concern, you might be happy here.

My husband and I stayed in the wee cabin. We are absolutely in love with this place. The cabin was beyond our expectations. The jacuzzi tub is amazing. The whole atmosphere is perfect for a romantic getaway. The breakfast that is included in the mornings at the main house is beyond expectations. The orange juice for the mimosa is freshly squeezed. The food is five stars. Absolutely the best. If you're looking for romantic getaway with your spouse, don't look any further. We drive all the way from Greensboro for this getaway. We will be back.

This was our second time having our family Thanksgiving meal at the River House. Sadly, it was our last. First, the staff and everyone is so nice and the setting is great. But, the food again was a disappointment - especially at $45 per person. Frankly, the turkey was pretty bad. Like it was 2 years ago, the turkey was undercooked and almost rubbery. You definitely do not want to see pink in your turkey! The other items were pretty good, but the stuffing was a little dry and there was no mashed potatoes offered, which is odd. Also, only having 2 desserts was disappointing. No apple or pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving?? Cheesecake and a very disappointing pecan pie. Overall, to pay over $350 for a family of 5 is really, really not worth it based on our experience.

I think the menu changes pretty frequently. Since I was there on Mother's Day as I recall the big meal was at noon and I can't remember if they served dinner. My memory about the food is that it was all delicious.
