Detailed Reviews
We had a campsite next to the creek where there is ample opportunity for tubing (available near the entrance to the park). Reservations are a must at recreation.gov for $25 a night or half price for those with a senior pass. We like the area next to the creek that is for tents only. Farther away is for RVs and tents. Try the less congested area near campsite 37. The restrooms are convenient and very clean. The campground is also the trailhead for hikes to three waterfalls - Juney Whank, Tom Branch, and Indian Creek. Hikes to all are about two miles in total. We saw several trout fly fishers in the creek.

Pros: affordable trip, friendly staff. Tubing Deep Creek is something we'll never forget, we will be back!
Cons: 2 of the tubes were given to us somewhat deflated. Those tubea got stuck on rocks more easily. Check the state of the tubes before they tie them to your vehicle. They'll charge you if you bring it back flat or with a hole in it. You're going down a river of rocks, of course something can happen. This charge seems ridiculous. They tie your tubes on your vehicle and you tie them back on and drive them back down the road to the store when you're done. Dumb. We're from FL and have tubed many rivers there. The companies have a bus or a trailer at the exit point, you throw your tube in, and they shuttle it back. This place really does need something similar. The ropes they give you is more like string. A raft fell off halfway back and my son held on to it out the door as we drove. We had an Explorer, it'd be so much easier with a truck if you have one.
If we were to tube here again, we'd have to rethink this whole process but the actual tubing is AMAZING.

The campground is conveniently located near the GSM National Park and excellent tubing creeks. We camped in a tent underneath a shelter (there are three, spots 24,25 and 26). Those are actually RV spots with water and electrical hookups. Nice playground for the kids. Nice, clean restrooms and showers. Well stocked general store. We had two days of very hard rain and our campsite and several others had standing water all around. The water drains within a few hours but it certainly cramped us inside our shelter area. There are also several cabins for rent and they looked really nice from the outside.

Beware. Exploiting multi state natural disaster. State of NC requesting only essential travel. Tried to cancel reservations here 8 days prior to arrival because not only is travel hazardous there is the issue of availability of gas.
They are keeping $138 deposit because they say everything is fine in Bryson City even though Bryson City PD put out a Facebook notice to avoid travel due to food and gas shortages and the need for essential services to be restored.
They are exploiting the disaster.
We even asked to move our reservation to next year but they refused.

We brought a sprinter van here for part of our honeymoon. The campsites are clean and well shaded with trees! We wanted a creek side site but they gave us the next closest thing across the road. Our site had a picnic table, and campfire with a grate over it which we definitely took advantage of. The sites are very spacious even for some of the bigger campers I’ve seen in here. The bath houses are alright and clean. And the tube rental is definitely a plus!

We got stuck there after Helene. We were suppose to leave on Thursday but the hurricane had hit so we decided to stay until we knew it was safe. My husband and I went to the office in hopes of getting a discount do to the emergency situation. We are told no! We are a mom and pop and can't do it. There were 3 rv's that belonged to the work campers and a large 5th wheel a van plus us. No one in tent area or in the cabins. It was basically deserted. I spoke to the couple in the 5th wheel and they were headed to the office to see about a discount for a month of camping, they were refused..they were told the park was booked up later in October for the leaves change. Hello Bryson City has no in or out roads. Ashville is black as are other town therefore roads are closed due to flooding or landslides. I want to add the workers Peter and Sandy were great. Peter helped us during our stay with routes that might be safe. Sandy was sweet and you could tell she wanted to make sure we were comfortable. Not so with the owner Lila and her rude daughter Laurel. Stay away! They only care about the dollar. No compassion for people who were stranded and trying to figure it out. Find someone who cares in happy times and difficult times. This place did nothing for us. We paid full price for another week plus. We had no choice.

Cherokee Cabin was filthy and I have the pictures to prove it. When I went to the office to discuss it, their response was “what did you expect for $80/nite. If you do not like it, you can leave! Wow!
We have traveled a lot but NEVER have I seen anything this dirty.

LOVED Bryson. campgrounds was 2nd worst (maybe worst) camp grounds ive ever stayed at. 14' square patch for your tent that is covered in crushed concrete. tent stakes were very difficult to pound in and came out at the slightest bump. sights were on top or each other. reminded me more of a concert than a camp grounds. parking was a long walk through others camps. ONLY redeeming value is, i loved the creek and Bryson is a nice little town. Then there were the other campers. ALL smoking pot. all around. pot pot pot. rude. obnoxious and smelled awful. rather have slept in my car at a truck stop.

We will return. Rented the Tuckaseegee cabin. Beware there is no oven or toaster :). Had A/C and everything we needed. Also, they’ll charge you for little things like trash bags.
We went tubing several times. It’s only a mile from the parking for tubing. Very quiet. There’s a country store on site for when you forget something.

Cabins were a disappointment. The smaller cabins were swept but not clean. The the bathroom sink was in the so called kitchen with a faucet that didn’t work well. No burner or stove. The tv remote was missing so no way to work it. If you want hot water, be sure to hunt for the switch and turn it to on. The small refrigerator is cold but hasn’t been defrosted in a year. Disappointing for $99.
