We spend one night of our honeymoon here, it was fantastic. The customer service was immaculate waited for us to show even though we were late. Didn’t try the restaurant as it was closed for a private party unfortunately. Great area, very homey.
As much as we adore this quaint, outdoor themed "motel" layout, and it's two fabulous restaurants (fancy and grill type) it was tough to swallow the zero maid service ( covid precaution excuse) and 2 days of ROOF REPLACEMENT. No price accommodation, no credit for next stay...that was poor form. But the place is darling, people are very sweet, food great, location perfect just be prepared to clean your room and vacate if there are repairs!!
We have been staying at the Hungry Trout for many years with outstanding service. However, this year was quite different. On the first day we arrived we went to The Pub for dinner only to be told even though there were many vacant tables they could not service us because they were short staffed. Very disappointed to hear someone that is staying at the resort is treated that way. On Saturday of our trip we were woken to banging and scraping noises on the roof. They were replacing the roof. We returned in the afternoon to sit outside of our room to relax but couldn’t because there was all debris falling and in front of our door. We were then awakened to more of the same noises on Sunday morning.
I have been trying to have dinner at the Hungry Trout for years! Never seemed to be open when we made a visit to Lake Placid. Finally! Got a 6p reservation only to be sat at 6:20p after several parties were seated before us. Food was okay but did NOT make up for the bad service. Staff seemed overwhelmed and never really tried to ale up for it. Save your time and money and go somewhere in town.
Amazing views and scenery, loved every minute. Highly recommend. Room was clean and comfy. Behind the motel is a creek/river/stream, and its worth the walk down to restaurant to see it! Restaurant was closed, but would have loves to sit out back and eat and enjoy the views.
We were driving around the Adirondacks with no particular place to stay so we were happy The Hungry Trout had a room available. The room was large, very clean, the bed very comfortable and the grounds are so pretty with the river behind the hotel. The man who checked us in was friendly and quite knowledgeable about the area. If we return to that area, we would definitely stay there again.
Beautiful area and great place to stay in the Adirondacks. Sits along the west branch of the majestic Ausable River. Pleasant grounds, relaxing vibe, good coffee, and very clean! Don’t miss Whiteface Mountain, the Flume, and the fly shop. Awesome!
I just stayed for my second time. It is not a five star hotel. But is very clean and the beds are very comfortable. Your choice of fine dining next door or tavern just a short walk from the hotel. The food is excellent. You can let your wading boots dry outside where there are chairs to sit. Bring the kids or grandkids a pool and playground are available. Pert for me at a very fair price.
We love the Hungry Trout. The staff are all wonderful and welcoming. Very close to all the local fishing holes. My husband loves the area for trout fishing and the Ausable River below the hotel if beautiful and very fishable. They have a beautiful patio above the River to relax (with or without a fire) read and sip wine. Pet friendly. Wonderful beds with lots of pillows. Love the addition of the fire pit area in the back is awesome, even though we did not partake this trip. We will definitely be back.
My husband couldn't thank me enough for finding this place. Rustic place & very clean. Beautiful setting overlooking the mountains, rivers & falls. There is a Restaurant on sight which was amazing! We stayed in a King room that was very comfortable & quiet! There is a nice pool & play yard for the children. Also, pet friendly! Everyone on site were extremely kind & helpful! Thank you to all!
