We arrived at this hotel, it looked lovely,at 2.30 pm ,the cleaner was hoovering the reception area, she made no effort to stop and made it clear we were in the way,she told us the reception person will be about 20 minutes and to come back. We said we'd wait . After 20 minutes a lady sat behind the desk made no eye contact with us. I approached her ,she was flicking through a booklet, I told her our names and was met with no check in until 4 no hello no good afternoon no smile, she kept flicking through the booklet. I said we have an afternoon tea booked could we have that while we wait,. NO and it's a Cream tea , you can have it When you're checked in. At this point we asked if we could leave the bags save taking them back to the car. We don't have a room to store them. I asked if we could leave in a corner out of the way, she reluctantly said OK. On the way out my wife said to the receptionist You've not made us feel very welcome so far ,she just looked at us and muttered to herself. We left and cancelled the reservation over the phone with Travelzoo. We went back to collect our bags she never looked even looked at us as we retrieved our bags. It's The first time in over 40 years of travelling in the UK that we've cancelled a hotel because of rude staff before actually even staying there. The minimum you could expect in hospitality is a greeting and a smile.

We’ve moved into the area and were really happy to try the restaurant as it’s a few minutes walk. The decor was lovely, the staff all very friendly and atmosphere was good. We ordered the cod and waited about an hour for it, which didn’t bother us as we were chatting. The meal arrived and we were so disappointed. To charge customers £15 for a very thin end piece of cod that I could only cut into 3 small bits to eat is shocking! It honestly took my partner and I a couple of minutes to finish the cod and scoop of potato. I said to the waitress who was lovely about it and she asked the chef who said that’s just what you get but if I paid £3 less I’d have got a massive slice of haddock and chips with sides - it doesn’t make sense. It’s such a shame because the food we had was delicious but it was like a starter I genuinely thought there had been a mix up. We didn’t order anything else and left as we felt really ripped off.

The hotel is great, loved the xmas decs, the girls on reception were fabulous and so so helpful, the rooms was great...very comfy bed and great size, clean and bathroom huge. but...... we tried to get a meal in the lounge and was told there was a funeral party there so that was fine we thought we will just go nxt door to the bar which was fairly busy but we spotted one of three free tables and took a seat. after 20 mins of the bar and waiting staff looking over at us and ignoring us my husband went to go over and ask for drinks and food menus and was told to take a seat and they would be over, a woman came over right enough and said did we have a table booked, to which we said no..... ah well you really need to book, now i dont know if it was a covid thing or not but there were 3 free tables!!! we told her we were actually residents at the hotel and wanted food and drinks as there was a funeral party in lounge, with a sigh she reluctantly said ok and she would be back... 5 mins later she returned with a menu and took our drinks order and then food order, all good short wait and food arrived, all beautiful and tasted great, my husband ordered another drink and waited 20 mins for that after waving to a server that was trying to place it at another table!!! we sat for quite a while and finished our drinks, all good. the second night we went thru to same bar as dining room, lounge looked busy...same again there were lots of free tables so we went and sat at one, waited for 20mins to have a server come and ask us to move as there was a large party had booked all the tables in that space... we moved to another table to then be told that all the tables were actually booked so we would have to leave!!! we said we were actually staying at hotel and wanted to eat, feeling like we shouldnt be there...... we were told to go thru to lounge part and see if they had any tables, same staff going between both bars..... so we went thru and took a seat, in front of bar where staff were actually looking at us.....3 of them to be totally ignored for 15 mins when we got up and walked out and went to the kings park hotel for a fantastic meal, served by an amazing server who was great and chatty and hospitable....think we will actually stay there nxt time. we have stayed in both hotels over the years but i think it will be last time for burnside, which is a shame as reception staff and rooms are brilliant but we felt unwelcome with rest of service.

My daughter and I had lunch outside today. There were only 2 more tables with customers outside . It took 45 min for a salad and baguette to arrive . We didn't mind too much as we were chatting and the menu had stated there may be a delay as food cooked to order . However a salad and sandwich do not have much cooking! (Possibly the chicken in the salad) I was so underwhelmed with my "honey roast ham"baguette . Literally 1 piece of cheap looking white meat , no butter or dressing inside the baguette . I was quite shocked at how poor it was and would have complained but no staff came near us . I used the side salad to fill the baguette and make it more interesting. We called a waitress over asking for mayonnaise but at no time did she ask if everything was OK. I was so hungry I had eaten half of it before any waiting staff came outside .The ceasar salad was much better . I would not choose this again and the waiting staff need to be more attentive to those customers eating outside. Our plated were not cleared away by the time we left .

Were staying with friends nearby and had dinner and drinks here - busy place which was great to see. Nice food, good selection on menu and catered for all diets. Cocktails really good also. Will return if in area - If rooms are anything like the food I would not hesitate to stay there. Starter and main was lovely and enjoyed by all parties. Great service and Adhering to all Covid19 guidelines. Well done.

Was in the Burnside Hotel for lunch this afternoon, our fourth visit since lockdown lifted. Unfortunately on this occasion all did not go well. We arrived at 1.25 earlier than our booked time slot which was 2pm so therefore accepted that our 3 hour time slot for a table outside would start earlier. We sat enjoying our drinks for circa 45 minutes prior to ordering lunch. After another 45 minutes had passed we alerted the waiter to the fact that we still awaited our food, the starter was soup! After another 15 minutes the soup ,which was delicious, arrived. We then waited another 15 minutes having again alerted the waiter to the fact that our main courses had still not arrived, when they did they were again delicious I however, was now starving. A couple of friends we had not seen in years had come in and had one drink and saw us as they were leaving, they sat beside us at 4.10 pm when we order 2 pints and a cup of coffee. When they the drinks arrived we were presented with the bill and were advised on no uncertain terms that there was a 3 hour slot by law and we had to vacate our table at 4.15. This begs the question why was a drinks oeder taken at 4.10. I politely stated this is not law but is government guidelines and we were finishing our drinks and leaving we would not linger. Also that tables near us had been in for far longer than we and no one was pressuring them to leave. At 4.30 , we were almost finished we were told we had to leave. Most embarrassing, felt like we were being thrown out. Also we were overcharged as we ordered from the lunch menu but were charged the al a crate prices! Did not notice at the time as I was mortified. Real shame, the service is usually good and I would not have written this review but was mortified that I was being thrown out, not sure if we shall ever return.

The food was really good and so where the staff even gave my niece & nephew free ice cream loved it! I had the chicken wings for starters and they were really nice not sure what sauce they were in but it tasted nice! Then I opted for the make your own pizza which was nice I got the spicey chicken pizza with onions and bbq sauce although it was not really spicey it still tasted lovely!
