deep in the Tambopata reserve, near Collpa clay lick, lots of macaws and some howler monkeys around. some regular macaw visitors will come for breakfast with you. and fly into you room, create a crime scene if you had food in your room!!! The food was amazingly delicious, they've got some magic in the kitchen no power after 21:00, light...

We are frequent family travelers and have had the pleasure to enjoy trips in Latin America, North America and Europe. As part of a 2.5 week overland trip across southern and central Peru this year, I traveled with my wife and daughters in March/April and went to Refugio and then on to TRC. The best description that comes to mind...

Everything at the center is so professionally run. The accommodation is basic (as one would expect in such an eco environment) but beds are comfortable and the shared facilities always clean. Mosquito nets are provided as windows are open to the jungle (amazing sounds at daybreak.) The guides are exceptionally knowledgeable and the walks fantastic as there were many sightings...

Our visit to the Tambopata station was exceptional. We didn't know what to expect with this leg of our Peru experience but looking back it was one of the highlights. The research station is rustic and that is what we were looking for. The researchers and guides were excellent and the field trips although hot and humid were once in...

Everything about our stay was great. We traveled with two teenagers who were as excited to be there as we were. (If you have or know teenagers, you know that this response is unusual in the extreme.) Even starting at the crack of dawn each day didn't put a damper on their enthusiasm. It was that good. We stayed for...

Well organized short trip into the jungle. Service of guides and stuff was absolutely good. The Tambopata Research Center was a really nice location and gives you some sort of adventurous feeling, but still provides you with hotel comfort at this remote place deep in the rainforest. We could see a lot of macaws and even a jaguar crossing the...

When people ask me what were the highlights of my 7 week South American trip, this is one of the three places I always talk about. From the moment we arrived in Puerto Maldonado and were greeted by our guide, the whole experience was professionally managed, full of excellent information and of course, great places to view wildlife. The research...

Dear Jenny, Thanks for coming to the Tambopata Research Center and we are very happy to read that this place was one of the highlights of your trip to South America. TRC is indeed a magical place and one can only experience it truly when comes along, and it's definitely worth the long boat ride upriver in Tambopata. We will...

All the reviews are correct. the food was out of this world. our guide, Juan Carlos, became a great friend in a few days. The lodge truly lives out its eco-philosophy. the other travellers were all like-minded eco tourists and interesting people, it was an incredible experience.

This was a very well-run trip in a beautiful section of rainforest. Our dedicated guide was excellent and had an extraordinary ability to find and spot animals for us. Be prepared for lots of rain, humidity, heat and some sacrifices to standard comforts due to being in a very remote part of the forest, but it's all definitely worth it!...

I went to the Tambopata Research Center in 1991 (elsewhere in the review it may say 2014 as the only required choices were 2014-15) for a few days. I was just me and a Dutch "human rights" lawyer and her archaeologist boy friend along with the staff. Pure magic. It was my first experience in the Amazon and this region...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is a spartan yet comfortable 18 bedroom lodge with 8 shared bathrooms. Because of its remote location in uninhabited wilderness, housing stable populations of endangered wildlife, the small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife. It is located in a half hectare clearing in the middle of the uninhabited portion of the Tambopata National Reserve, less than a kilometer from the world's largest and most diverse macaw claylick. ... more   less
