Beautiful home! We felt so comfortable and relaxed there. Marcus and Elin are fantastic hosts; as is Stella. They thought of every detail to make our stay pleasant. Breakfasts were outstanding as well. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and again! Bob and Becky Cox

This is a fantastic inn/b&b! A Victorian mansion built in 1892, the rooms are spacious and well furnished. It is an architectural masterpiece. The first floor is a collection of beautifully furnished rooms that encourage guests to relax and read or play games, along with a dining room in which a sumptuous breakfast is served each morning- though the wrap around porch also includes ample opportunities to eat outdoors. The grounds are well maintained and offer formal gardens as well as lawn areas with plenty of lawn games to enjoy. The host is genial and clearly enjoys his role as a steward of this grand old home. The inn is on a hill overlooking Watkins Glen and Seneca Lake. It is walkable to the town though it’s a steep walk up hill on the return. A wonderful experience all around and we were just sorry we were only there for one night. We met a number of other guests who were returning visitors, which in addition to being a great indication of how nice an experience it is, is also something we hope to be in the future, as we will definitely return.

Stayed here over weekend on trip through NY. Great find, unique place. Beautiful rooms and common areas - place was filled for weekend but did not feel crowded, all rooms were immaculate and well appointed, spotlessly clean. Very quiet, relaxing place to stay. Great views of Lake in evening and morning sunrise worth getting up early. Very good breakfast. Short walk into town. Highly recommend - owners Marcus and Elin work very hard to make the Inn a great place to stay.

Stayed at the Idlewild Inn over weekend - really beautiful home, extremely well maintained throughout, well appointed. I have an old home myself and can't imagine the effort to keep it in such a condition. Owners Marcus and Elin obviously work overtime to anticipate guest needs. Very nice rooms, comfortable beds, very clean, lots of well equipped common spaces. Outstanding breakfast. Nice grounds with beautiful view of lake. Short walk into town, although uphill back to Inn. Will recommend to friends if in the area.

I chose the Idlwilde Inn as the location to celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary. My wife came too. Days before our stay, I discovered that I had accidently deleted the confirmation email, so I sent an email to the address posted on the website. Within an hour, the Inn's proprietor, Marcus, responded to confirm my stay and forwarded me another copy of the confirmation. Then, on the day of our check-in, Marcus texted me to confirm my arrival time and wish me safe travels. I was starting to get the feeling that I'd be well taken care of at Idlwilde. Upon our arrival, Marcus gave us a quick tour of the mansion and our room, asked us to text him if we needed anything, then bid us farewell. For the entire 2-night stay, he was there whenever we needed it, but never obtrusive. Customer service perfection. The mansion itself is absolutely beautiful. There is ample space downstairs and outside on the deck to lounge in mixed company, if that is your thing. And if it's not, the room was exquisite, comfortable and intimate, featuring a private deck with a stunning view of Seneca Lake. The Inn is less than a mile from downtown Watkins Glen, making it an ideal location for access to numerous shops and restaurants, the harbor, and the breathtaking waterfalls in Watkins Glen State Park. The breakfasts were delectable but varied each morning. My wife and I meant to take a photo of the picturesque meals but both mornings forgot until we had devoured nearly the entire thing. You'll have to take my word for it. Overall, we couldn't have been happier with the Inn. I knew our stay was going to be short and that we would have a limited amount of time to partake in various activities. So, I wanted to make sure that the place we were staying WAS the destination. It was absolutely that.

Marcus & Elgin are the best! They are amazing at making guests feel at home right away. We stayed in Room 6 and loved the views, the experience and the relaxed atmosphere. The Inn is exactly what you could hope for, clean, warm and it feels like a favourite new/old home. Breakfasts were fantastic and there were lots of seating options on the front verandah, lawn, or inside. Be sure to try Marcus’ own coffee blend.

We stayed in room 8 on two of the hottest days of the year but the room was a very comfortable temperature with the extra AC unit. The room is a nice size and the decor is charming (I love the vanity!). The breakfast is delicious but our favorite part of the day is sitting on the porch in the evening, drinking coffee and enjoying the view of lake Seneca. We even brought takeout so we could have dinner on the porch. If you are an early riser, be sure sit on the porch and experience the gorgeous sunrise!

Perhaps the title of our review will give you an indication of our experiences, but this is easily one of the best, if not best, B&Bs we’ve ever stayed at, We were greeted by Marcus and their dog, Stella (she by the way is a very sweet and friendly dog that we loved). We got to meet Elin the next morning as we had arrived late. The attention to details, quality of our breakfasts and beauty of their home was simply amazing. They accommodated us so thoughtfully as among the four of us some were vegetarians and one of us did not eat eggs. This presented no issues whatsoever for Elin and Marcus as their breakfasts were delicious and prepared with our tastes strictly in mind. Another wonderful aspect of Idlewild is the number of “community rooms” to hang out, play games and simply relax. They insisted on our making ourselves at home and utilizing certain areas of the kitchen for storing or heating up leftovers or snacks. Marcus was often checking in to ensure we were comfortable and was so accessible as he responded practically instantaneously to one’s text. The bedrooms themselves were spacious and beautiful, spotlessly clean, too, thanks to their excellent and very friendly staff. Those, too, who assisted in the serving of our breakfasts were equally friendly and yet professional and courteous. Marcus and Elin have constructed a webpage, so user friendly and very informative concerning places to hike, eat or visit. Further, they were incredibly helpful in guiding us to places such as wineries and restaurants and places to hike, thereby expanding on the information already proffered on their website/webpage. The huge and wonderful deck, too, opened up to inspiring views of Lake Seneca and there was a gazebo on the grounds. Many places are within walking distance and be prepared to get some great exercise as the streets present some steep hills. But we loved that too as Idlewild is located and situated such that you get those beautiful views of the region. We’re going back in the late fall so this, too, should tell you how we feel about this place: the area and most importantly its owners, Elin and Marcus, their staff, the accommodations and Stella! Cannot recommended Idlewild Inn enough.
