We have stayed at this property more than once for two reasons: it has a stunning view of Seneca Lake, and until recently, a large outdoor swimming pool overlooking the lake. Yes, the whole place is shabby and dated. There are few amenities, and it needs a serious facelift. But we have always found the rooms to be clean, and the staff helpful. We don’t spend much time in the room, and the location is convenient. We enjoy the little balconies that overlook the lake, and the pool is a huge plus for my husband and I. This year, we were disappointed to find the swimming pool is closed for repairs. It is rumored that the new owners are thinking about filling in the pool rather than renovating it. If that happens, we’ll stay elsewhere next year.
The best part about this place is the view and the location which is right off the highway and convenient to get everywhere. Very easy to check in although the man at the front desk was not very friendly but he was polite. The room was very clean but seriously outdated. No I have no problem with the 70s or 60s or whatever decade this decor came from because the room was very clean. But the lighting was so poor even with the curtains open it was very dark. There was no refrigerator but thank goodness it was chilly outside and I was able to leave my cooler on the porch. No free breakfast either. For one night it was just fine.
We went for the weekend Sept 17/18 2021 and were very pleased with the accommodations and we at at the restaurant and the food was amazing. There we’re 8 in our party and all thought the food was fantastic. The view of Lake Seneca from our balcony was amazing and the rooms were clean.Coffee made fresh every morning at the registration area and convenient to downtown Watkins Glen and all local vineyards.Highly recommended.
It's hard to process that we parted with over $150 of our hard-earned money to stay at this dump. Our plans changed at the last minute, and this property was one of the only ones available for the night we needed. Every corner of this 'establishment' is circa 1970, possibly earlier. The exterior door to our room said it all...full of rust. The beds were sunken in and all the furnishings were fake wood and chipped. I was grateful for the bathmat so it didn't have to step on the ancient pink tiled bathroom floor. The walls were paper-thin, we could hear the folks talking in the next room. I didn't sleep a wink, as I was so uncomfortable in that bed. The view is sensational, but that does not make up for the dank, musty, dreary surroundings at the Glen Motor Inn.
Wow, was choosing this place a big mistake. My spouse, myself and a very dear couple visited the Seneca Lake area to tour several wineries. All we were looking for was a place to spend the night. What we got was a dank, dated, musty, sorry excuse for a hotel room. Sleeping on the ground in a leaky tent in the rain would have been more comfortable. Probably would have smelled better too. The mattresses were shot, the pillows offered zero support and the carpet was so nasty that we were afraid to take our shoes off. The pool water was so green that I considered gathering my tackle box and fishing pole and seeing what might be lurking in the deep end. Rating this place a 2 out of 5 is being generous. STAY AWAY!
I knew when booking that the rooms were very dated and worn but we planned a two night stay regardless. The plan was to just relax by the pool and swim. Sadly the water was so cold I couldn’t bring myself to go in. All the guests we spoke to had the same complaint. We picked a couple sunny hot days but the pool stayed ice cold. Also, the rooms were worse than I even thought they would be. I had the creeps the whole night. Also, my husband wanted to get in the shade at the pool so he moved his lounger near one of the entrance gates where it was shady. A man (perhaps an owner?) stopped by and very rudely told me to have him move his chair. At the time we were the only two people at the pool so we would have gladly moved if other people were coming in. We had no problem at all moving but he could have asked a little nicer rather than bark at us. We decided to leave after the first night. We were willing to swallow the money we paid for the second night. It is a beautiful location with such potential. There are no niceties at all. The restaurant closed , bar closed, no fridge, I can’t imagine why they don’t spend some money on updating this little hidden gem. Will never go back.…
Overall I’d stay here again. Safe, friendly staff, Great Lake views, and clean. It’s old and out dated, but the things that matter they got right. Ice machine was broken, but they did give us bags of ice. Coffee and light breakfast available in the morning were nice too. We didn’t use the pool, but it looked nice and clean.
I’m staying here right now! I am obsessed with this place. The location and view is unbeatable. The motel has been operated by the family for 85 years! How amazing is that. The room is clean and adequate. Everyone working here has been a pleasure. A little updating and maybe catering to a younger/hipster clientele would be my suggestion but I would 100% stay here again. I would live here.
This place is adorable and the couple that owns it is very nice. Beds are comfortable. Rooms are quiet and clean and they over look the lake. We love supporting family owned businesses but sometimes it is a gamble. No gamble with this place. It’s adorable.
Run don't walk! Room 33 is probably the same as the 1970s. Flimsy pillows, no fridge, no micro, no coffee pot and NO HEAT! Thermostats hooked evidently to nothing. 48 outside and around 60 inside. Have on sweatshirts, socks and towel around feet. Office closed, restaurant closed etc. And to think we paid $170 for this. Only good thing is a nice hot shower. Pitiful
