This historic motel is an excellent choice for families, business travelers, or those simply road-tripping through the Finger Lakes wine country on a budget. The main building was built in the 1880s and still retains a lot of its vintage charm. The back rooms were added in 1950s and also retain the classic mid-century look and decor of a more peaceful and restful time. (We still use metal keys, not plastic key cards). We are more than a simple B&B resort. We provide free Wi-Fi and free parking, but the secret of our success is our attention to detail to provide clean rooms and a hospitable atmosphere at an affordable price. You will find our staff enthusiastic and courteous with your comfort and pleasure our priority.
We offer late check-in, and are open to drop-ins when available.
Oh, and while in Watkins Glen, we recommend you try our small batch homemade ice cream, with vegan ice cream. And for our meat eaters, we have our very tasty Beef On Weck sandwich. It has gotten great reviews. We also offer handcrafted pottery, ceramics and other locally created items. You can also view our active beehive and see the honey, if you find the queen bee you get a free small ice cream.
Excellent Creamery! The ice cream is homemade and it was amazing! Wonderful flavor options. The service was fast and friendly! We enjoyed sitting outside on the rocking chairs to enjoy our ice cream on a warm summer evening. Definitely worth a stop.
Stayed 2 nights recently and enjoyed the motel. Great location next to the State Park entrance. We woke early and being so close didn't have to mess the the parking lot crowds. A few blocks from the heart of downtown and the waterfront. Room was small but perfect for two. Window AC unit, small shower stall. Ice cream was great! And they have a wood fire pizza oven on site.
Wonderful last minute accommodations for our visit to Watkins Glen and the Seneca Lake wineries- perfect location to walk to the lake, town restaurants and shops as well as the park entrance for hiking. Room was small but clean and sufficient for our stay. Love the delicious homemade ice cream that substituted for the breakfast due to COVID. Comfortable rocking chairs out front to enjoy the weather out front- thanks for a great stay !! What a welcoming spot in a fun town !
This place is very quirky. It was comfortable and clean. Shower had great pressure and lots of hot water. Our room was “retro”, ie dated but I didn’t mind that. The TV got lots of channels, including sports. Note that since Covid they don’t serve breakfast, but there is coffee. Instead of free breakfast, we got free ice cream (they make it I think) which was even better! It’s an easy walk from the Gorge so you save the price of parking.
STAY AWAY...Website says Inn with a tavern, continental breakfast with Begian waffles, woodfire pizza ... well, it is an Inn. The tavern consisted of two taps that hadn't been used in a while with storage items on the bar. The "continental breakfast" was a coffee urn and powder creamer (at a creamery) and NO FOOD. The woodfire pizza was not available. The room had a partition between the bed and bath areas (NO privacy) and a shower worthy of a single wide trailer. Any rating above one star must be due to the ice cream. Stay somewhere else and walk to the creamery.
The Inn has a great Great location. Within walking distance of Watkins Glenn State Park. Main building is old,but that’s what makes it cool. The room was clean and comfortable. They have good ice cream and wood fire grilled pizza on the premises.
We wanted to stay in Watkins Glen and walk to a lot of places. Colonial Inn is a perfect base to do that. As if there aren't enough ice cream places in town, Colonial has a creamery on premises. Rocky Mountain Raspberry.....amazing. The Inn is old, but remodeled to give more of a hotel feel. Our room was comfortable. Everything was clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Restaurants in walking distance. The state park a couple blocks away. Ice cream just below in without having to go outside. Perfect.
We got a room for one night. The heater on the wall didn't work. We finally asked about how to make the heater work and then we were told it didn't. We were told there is a heater in the closet, no heater. They finally gave us an old plug in one. Mind you it was 40 degrees today. There was no phone in the room so you have to use your own phone to call front desk. There are 14 rooms here...took us three calls to get someone. The floors are very weak in the bathrooms. It's just basic cable so not much to choose from, which for night isn't a big deal but if you're here longer, better bring a book. We had to call the front desk for wifi password, twice because the first time wasn't correct. It really just needs to be updated and don't expect a normal front desk. We got keys from behind the ice cream counter.…
We stayed in room 6 in the motel. The room smelled like cat urine. The windows were filthy and one of them would not stay open. Thank goodness we were staying only one night. The location is great and the price was right, but still too much for the quality of the room. The check in process was strange; the person scooping ice cream is the person who checks you in. There is no check out and no receipt. No breakfast or any other amenities. We will not stay here again.
I had ice cream from the creamery . The banana chocolate chuck was so good I would definitely good back again . Nice tables to sit and enjoy the area There was a porch out front to relax on also . try the ice cream
