This hotel is ideally located for trekking Mgahinga and Bwindi. It's right by the main road, too, so you've no worries about reaching it when the dirt roads are washed out. I liked all the Congolese art that was for sale and I liked the chilled, backpacker vibe. I recommend doing a mix of lodging in this region, as I...

Whilst it doesn't look like much from outside when you into reception the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The rates are reasonable for bed and well as breakfast and dinner. The rooms are clean spacious and have all that you need. Ask for them to put r heater on and in 10 minutes you will have a lovely warm...

The traveler's rest is a simple hotel, good rooms and - if you have some patience - hot showers. The food here was the least exciting during my entire trip in Uganda however... Still it was okay. Staff is extremely friendly and welcoming.

We spent 3 nights at the Traveler's Rest Hotel. We stayed in the Matunda room which we would definitely recommend. This is very nice, clean hotel set amongst a lovely garden setting. You will find Congolese art throughout the hotel which adds a very nice touch. The food is very good, there is a well stocked bar right next to...

We were so excited to stay at this hotel as part of our gorilla trekking package. Staff were so lovely, welcoming and kind. The "great room" had a huge fireplace which was lit for us each night to gather around and share stories of the days activities. Jennifer was such a lovely host, rooms were great, meals were great. Fantastic...

We enjoyed our stay for four nights while visiting Kisoro. All aspects were fine and we should put the People - our Hosts - at the top of the list of things to enjoy. The superior menu and preparations should be #2 on the list. But the accomodations, the bar, the other guests and their visitors - all nice (except...

We stayed 2 nights at Traveler’s Rest in Kisoro, and used it as our hub to do a daytrip to Mgahinga NP (were we did the Sabinyo Gorge walk), since there are not many affordable or comfortable options closer to the park. We also wanted to stay at the same place Dian Fossey used to use, when she came down...

We were warmly greeted by Jennifer & her team after a long road journey from Entebbe. The cool welcome drink was much appreciated. We were given room 2 for our two night stay which had everything we could need. The lighting is a bit erratic flickering in the evening but I guess this is outside their control. It seemed fine...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Travellers' Rest is an excellent place for tourists visiting the endangered mountain gorilla in Southwest Uganda. The hotel, built in a somewhat colonial style, has ten rooms and one suite at reasonable prices. The garden is home to many birds, and in the evenings, when it gets cooler, visitors can warm themselves at the fireplace in the lounge. In the restaurant every evening a fine 4 course dinner is served. "Gorillas in the Mist" researcher Dian Fossey stayed here many times, calling it her "second home". The hotels offers a massage-service, perfect after a long gorilla trekking. ... more   less
