We stayed at the lone Park Hyatt in all of Africa during our stay in Zanzibar. Not having many reference points it’s hard to judge by local standards but I can say the hotel was on average in line with the Park Hyatt brand but not in all aspects. We stayed in Park Suite which was very spacious (100 sqm), had 1.5 bath, a nice terrace overlooking the beach and seaviews, and had good quality of materials for example the floor tiles. However the room was not entirely great, there were some aspects lacking considering the PH brand, notably soundproofing was poor due to thin windows so we could hear everything going on outside the hotel including calls for prayer at 5am. Soundproofing from the inside was also weak and we could easily hear doors closing. Thankfully because our suite was at the end of a hallway the noise was more muted when being in the bedroom. The sofa in the living room did not look the most clean so we avoided it and on our first day the water flow in the suite was intermittent and would stop at regular intervals making a shower somewhat tedious. However once I mentioned the problem to staff the next morning, they fixed the issue while housekeeping cleaned the room. Bathroom toiletries were Le Labo Bergamote 22 as expected and were refilled regularly by housekeeping which did a good job exactly at the time we requested every day. The breakfast buffet was good with many dishes with some variation of a coconut sauce, including beans, sweet potatoes, bananas, and pumpkin. I also enjoyed the coconut water every morning. What lacked in this breakfast to be truly Park Hyatt standards was some kind of a la carte menu, which there was none if not counting made to order eggs which is a given. The restaurant was in an attractive venue with seating both indoors and outdoors above the beach. Similar to the restaurant, the hotel common areas looked great and I liked the historical nature of the hotel which used to be the palace for the Sultanate of Oman (the old wing of the hotel). They later built a more modern wing where our suite was located. The bar of the hotel was inviting, the library was quiet, and the high ceilings with sky lights near reception were impressive. Service was generally a strength at the hotel with various staff remembering our names and being very friendly when we walked by reception and at the front door. They were also more proactive than most hotels in suggesting half day tours from the hotel and talking about the history of Zanzibar and the various sites to visit, compared to other PHs some of which tend to be more reactive. Overall I found this PH to be good but short of being great, although considering the lack of local alternatives from international hotel chains (there are a couple of Double Tree hotels), I would return with no hesitation and I can recommend it.…
It was one of the best hotel experiences that I personally had in all my travels… the attention to detail, the customer service and overall feeling of being special just got us really enamores by this property and their team members. Even before check in the support and hospitality offered by Bakar and Gautam to make my friends 60th birthday be special was truly appreciated… Upon checking in we met this angel Lucy who took care of us in such a way that made us feel we were family and that you were meeting a family member after many years… her warmth her smile and her service during our entire stay was truly exceptional - the team at Park Hyatt understand the meaning of hospitality and truly embody this in taking care of us and other guests that we saw during the stay.. it was genuinely warm and kind and made the stay very very comfortable… I would come here again to experience this hospitality at its finest… The food is incredible especially the breakfast.. we took cooking classes that we enjoyed and feasted upon.. Beautiful location and in the midst of everything within walking distance made this place really convenient too… Definitely a place worth experiencing and A+ to the staff for providing the highest levels of service…
So turns out this hotel is a UNESCO heritage site. It is in the middle of stone town, Zanzibar’s downtown and directly on the beach. You can directly take a boat to visit the islands on the West side ( prison island and Nakepunda). The staff , the food and the hotel architecture are out of this world. It is one of the best locations in Zanzibar to watch the sunset
I enjoyed my stay at park Hyatt Zanzibar. Despite the fact that I didn’t have a booking prior to arrival, I was able to get a room to stay. The overall experience was great. Great ambience, hotel is by the beach front and facing the ocean. It is a great place if you want to explore Zanzibar and feel it’s tourism richness - in the center of Stone town and easy access to Prison island. I would love to return here. You have to be ready to budget some good money to stay here though.
We came here after our Safari in Kenya for some relaxation - This hotel is right on the beach in stonetown but is very relaxing The room is just awesome !! There are so many staff that you cant do you own toast at breakfast, but this can lead to some interesting very minor hiccups which actually add to the experience We had a very very small issue with the sink plug and the maintenance staff were there in under 5 mins !!! Super hotel with great staff - I don't want to leave
Trust me when I tell you, there is no other place you will want to stay in all of Zanzibar than at Park Hyatt. Right from the minute you check into the hotel, the staff makes you feel right at home and are incredibly welcoming. The kindest and most helpful human beings you will ever meet, truly. Big shout out to Abdullah, Fawzi, Farah, Mohsin, Christopher, Joel, Paul, really everyone there for being such cool and nice people! The views are amazing. The food is so delicious. All of the drinks — from coffee to cocktails to mocktails — are all absolutely fantastic. The rooms are BREATHTAKING! We had such a beautiful time here. Guest experience is also so helpful if you’re looking to book any tours in Stone Town or other activities like the Blue Safari. Trust me, stay here. It’s worth every single penny. We want to come back soon!…
We loved the Hyatt! Staff was so very friendly and helpful, especially Fauzi ,Abdullah, Alfred and Taryn!! Always a smile on their face!! The hotel itself was gorgeous! Rooms were beautiful and comfortable! Buffet breakfast was delightful as well!! View of the ocean in the front and close to the tangled streets of Stone Town in the back!! Would stay here again in a heartbeat!! Thanks again for a most memorable stay! 😊
We stayed three full days. Enjoyed our stay. Excellent quality rooms, facilities (gym). Pool with a fantastic view overlooking the pleasantly lively beach, harbor, and sunset. Excellent breakfast, in particular: pastries. Great service. Very accommodating. Lucy is a great Concierge; organized last-minute trips and met all our needs. Very courteous and attentive staff.
Pros - great hotel architecture, close to stone town, nice views of the ocean Cons - Miscommunication with staff on so many levels. Asked for a simple bandaid when kid got hurt at pool - nothing delivered. Room service knocking on door repeatedly when clearly "Do not disturb" is active. Front desk also interrupting "Do not disturb" by blasting off through the room intercom unannounced asking when will we checkout especially when we were due to stay another night. Staff and concierge have to be reminded repeatedly for special occasion amenities (finally delivered on last evening of 3 night stay). You will be treated well if you are Caucasian, but inherent racism quite visible if you are a person of color. We are World of Hyatt members, and frequent travelers, but pretty disappointed by this hotel.…
Great location. Not only central, but by the sea looking into the sunset. The overall standard of the hotel is luxurious, and it is undoubtedly the best hotel in Stonetown. With a price tag to match of course. The bedrooms are large and well provided and the public rooms are opulent. The staff are all happy and smiling and helpful. The food is great. One thing we were a bit cautious about was that the beach in front of the hotel is public. However we needn't have worried. We saw no signs of anyone being hassled at all. On the contrary, it was great to watch all the comings and goings with a sundowner. Would we stay here again? Unlikely that we will return to Zanzibar as the world is a big place etc, but if we did, we would definitely stay here.
