For those who want to experience the charm of a classic Zanzibar setting with a touch of ancient Arabian mystique, the place is Beyt Al Salaam, formerly known as Beyt Al Chai. This is an exquisite 11-room boutique hotel within a traditional Zanzibar house, built on 3 floors in what was once a tea house. Sitting only a few paces from the sea, the house is cool and breezy. On a typical day, guests relax in our beautifully appointed lounge and rooms overlooking a square filled with hibiscus and ancient tamarind trees - simultaneously feeling the pull of the mysterious Indian Ocean that lies just beyond the trees and soaking up the ambiance of this World Heritage Site only steps away from the shops, restaurants and attractions of contemporary Zanzibar.

Probably the best restaurant in Zanzibar. The coconut crab soup is out of this world. Definitely a must try. Fish coconut curry is amazing. The passion fruit cheesecake is a must. Reasonable prices for the quality of the food and the service.

Liked · The hotel location is great as it's walking distance to the beach, restaurants, shops and museums. The staff were friendly and the room was comfortable and clean. I arrived late at night and the hotel receptionist was friendly and check in was seamless. Minor considerations · The room I booked was on the second floor and the steps were steep and really high. On a positive, it was a workout getting to my room but if you have any mobility issues this will definitely be something to consider. They had limited alcohol beverage options, most of which were out of stock but then again there was the option of dining in another nearby restaurant.

We took a superior rooms which was not "superior" but only more elevated (at the 2nd floor)! The ceilling of the room is also not high according to the photographies. Probably the rooms at the 1st could have been a better choice. The swimming pool is in another building owns by the same owner at around 200m. The breakfast is quite light. It could be improved a bit. The garden in front the building is dry (no grass at all) and with trashes soemewhat like Stonetown

Dear Philippe E , Thank you for taking the time to make this review of your stay at Bayt Al Salaam Hotel, We appreciate both positive and constructive reviews as it help us improve our guest’s experience. While we are happy you enjoyed the Hotel location, restaurant and our housekeeping staff attentiveness, we are sorry to read of your experience with breakfast service that is light and for the room that as per availability the superior room wasn’t available on the day you arrived. In regards of the swimming pool we could not combine together with hotel building since we are in conservation area in the UNESCO heritage site of the world the government does not allow us to rebuild the building that's why the swimming pool is separate with the hotel itself. I have addressed your concerns to the concerned department and we have already taken corrective measures and actions. Furthermore, I would love to discuss your concerns further with if you like, please contact me on +255779999142 or share with me a your contact number by email (reservations@beytalsalaam.com We look forward to hearing from you and we wish to have the opportunity to welcoming you back and restore your faith in our hotel.
