Zanzibar Palace Hotel is a luxurious nine-room boutique hotel located right in the heart of Stone Town (a Unesco World Heritage site). It is independently owned and is an ideal home to explore and experience all the beauties of this magical town and Island. Zanzibar's rich history is integrated throughout the hotel with Arabian, Indian and English designs, in combination with all modern comfort (AC, free WiFi, flatscreen TVs, etc). Each room/suite has its own unique decor with many local originating antique pieces of furniture, magical beds, colourful silks, etc. Room rates for every purse definitely make this a place to stay. As you walk through the front door, you notice the soft aqua blue interior colours along with the antique furniture. You are immediately put into a state of calm and relaxation.

My 12 year old daughter and I visited Zanzibar in August 2022 from San Diego, California, and had never been to the country or Stonetown before and had a bit of culture shock to work thru. We checked into the Zanzibar Palace Hotel and it’s like all of our homesickness and worries evaporated. The staff were so incredibly caring, warm, personable, and helpful… getting to know us personally, checking that our tour guides were arriving on time, our meals were exactly as we liked them, our umbrellas were ready, our directions around town were clear…. They treated us like family. Which being so far from home in a new place with my daughter was exactly what I needed at the time. We stayed in one gorgeous and charming room on the very top floor, with an open air bathroom overlooking the city. Every detail of hospitality had been thought of. The room was clean, fresh, so authentically traditional, featuring design elements from all the cultures from the past that made Zanzibar so special. We ended up having to expand our stay from 2 nights to 5! And Daniela, the hotel owner, could not have been more accommodating. We ended up asking her to join us for a meal her and there between welcoming new arriving guests… we enjoyed her wonderful company and stories of her travels and the hotel itself. Before we departed, my daughter put a pin on the lobby map, adding to the sea of other traveler’s pins… all those lucky enough to have spent a little time within the walls of the magical Zanzibar Palace Hotel!

Wow, Erika: thank you so much for finding the time of writing such a great review. Mostly, I’m happy the team and I were able to make you and your daughter enjoy Stone Town. I understand the first impact can be a bit of a shock, but once you learn to know it, Stone Town is really a cool place, which deserves a few days at least, as you discovered yourself. And at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel, we all do our best for our guests to get the most out of their visit, also providing a nice environment after a day of exploring. It was so pleasant talking with you and your daughter: thanks also for inviting me to share our experience, and to share yours!

We stayed two nights in this hotel in the center of lively Stone Town. We had the room on the top floor so had to walk up 3 ( or more :-) ) storeys. But it was worth it. A wonderful view and quite an experience of the capital of Zanzibar. The staff was friendly and sincerely. The owner of the hotel is an Italien lady who wears her heart on her sleeve, which for Americans might not be appropriate, but as Europeans we were able to put it in the right perspective.

We stayed at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel in Stone Town, Zanzibar and had an excellent time! The hotel's setup and decor is authentically Swahili, with large rooms, carved wooden doors, and fixtures all in keeping with the overall experience. We were warmly welcomed by the owner, Daniela, and front desk manager. They offered us good advice on what to see and do in Stone Town. The restaurant downstairs was easily accessible and the food was very good. The room we stayed in had a separate entry area, bedroom, and bathroom. The heat can be a concern for visitors. The air conditioning and fans in the room were sufficient to keep us comfortable. The hotel location was fantastic, as it is very close to many of the major sites...assuming you can find your way through the narrow, maze-like streets and alleys. Overall, I highly recommend the Zanzibar Palace Hotel!

Thank you for taking the time to write this great and positive review! I will share it with the whole team as they all contribute to offer you a great experience. And yes, the alleys around here are a bit of the maze, but one of the fun things to do in Stone Town is to get lost and discover some of its beautiful corners. Thank for staying with us and we all hope you come back again

We stayed in Zanzibar palace hotel the first two nights on a fantastic island and safari holiday with two kids. The hotel is absolutely lovely, and keeps a lot of its authentic charm, one of the few places that still remind me of stone town that I visited 17 years ago. We arrived late, and Daniela arranged for the chef to stay late to cook us dinner. I absolutely loved the chicken curry, so much that we came back the day we left two weeks later to eat lunch here. Highly recommended, very unique Zanzibari taste which I really struggled to find elsewhere.

Authentic Stone Town accomodation close to local markets and restaurants. Thank you Daniella for an amazing stay. It was great to have breakfast included, and we recommend the informative walking tour that was organised by the hotel. Will be recommending the Zanzibar Palace Hotel to any of our friends travelling to Stone Town! Only reason this isn't getting a 5 star is because of there is no elevator - very steep stairs to get up to the rooms.

Thank you for taking the time of sending your review and your feedback. You're correct: the stairs are a bit steep and unfortunately we don't have the chance to add an elevator. Pros and cons of an old building! But it's important to point it out: when we can, we always ask preferences to the guests so I can assign a room on the lower floor if this is a problem.

We stayed at the Zanzibar Hotel after a Kenyan safari. We were picked up from the airport by Omar, a hotel staff member. Omar was very friendly and helpful. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and very relaxing. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We asked about day trips etc, and they staff were very honest in their advice and we did not feel any pressure in booking. The food was fantastic. I was able to order a few alternatives for my daughter, which was amazing. Would happily stag again and recommend to anyone.

Staff at the hotel ensured we had a pleasant two days in Stone Town. We were able to arrange a walking tour, afternoon massages and facials, and transfer to the east side of the island. Restaurant staff were attentive and friendly. Meals were delicious; breakfast had nice variety, the chicken curry was some of the best I've ever had, and the prawns were the size of my fist. The location, while easy to walk around and explore, is difficult to get a car through the streets (very narrow), so some drivers may drop you off closer to the main street. The interior of the hotel has very steep and irregular stairs, so this is not a hotel for folks with mobility issues.

Thank you Megan for taking the time to give us your feedback. You're right: as an old building, it has a great atmosphere but also poses challenges like the stairs. But glad that even with this challenge you had a pleasant stay!

Charming little hotel. The owner is quite friendly and chatty, and very attentive to any issues, as well as helpful setting up tours. We stayed in the Arabica room which was lovely - nice size room, bed was comfortable and clean as was the bathroom. Nice little balcony off the room with two chairs. It is up 4 flights of rather steep stairs as a caution. As well in the room, the toilet is not separate from the bedroom except by a folding screen. Breakfast was good, I especially liked the little basket of bread and pastries - especially the cinnamon buns. Location is good - not in a busy street and major sites aren't a far walk.
