Kholle House fact sheet:Services & Facilities:• Wi-Fi available• Outdoor swimming pool• Transport to/from airport if required at an additional charge. Zanzibar airport and Dar es Salaam airport – ferry dock• Island tours and sea activities assistance. Kholle House in the heart of Stone Town is an historical and authentic house build in 1860 which belonged to Princess Kholle. Sister of Sayyid Sultan bin Bargash and Princess Salme. The house has probably been there as a showcase from their crystal collection and porcelain. After the revolution in 1964 the house was confiscated and occupied by several families, this period caused severe damages in the house. Three years of restoration has brought us the pleasure to present our town beloved house, the work done in connection with historical monuments and in full respect with the construction methods in the time (coral rubble, lime, mangrove beams, marble…). With a noble and austere facade the building is typically Omani Arabic style while the garden has more Indo-Victorian fantasy rhythms. This style is featured on the covers of the old dispensary which faces Kholle House, that was restored by the Aga Khan Foundation.

Water heater, light and plugs in bathroom didn’t work, they sent someone to fix it but he couldn’t, we asked to be changed to another room and they told us they where fully booked that they couldn’t change us, so we had to stay there and they didn’t even care. Next day we told the one in charge of the hotel and she didn’t even care. Worst service!

Kholle house is at an unbeatable location and has a luxurious feel. It is only 1 minute away from the ferry which was very convenient for us. The breakfast was lovely. We love stone town and hope to be back one day.

The house is old, pictures of the hotel look too good, the rooms are not clean. The bed was bad, you could feel the wires in it. Our rooms AC wasn't working, we were sweating the whole night. Breakfast was good!

Indeed the House was built in 1860. And our beds are antique too although our mattresses are new. Sorry if you perceived the room as not clean or uncomfortable. You should have reported to us on the spot. Next time go to a Radisson Blu. Sincerely.

We had a very nice stay at Kholle Boutique Hotel! The satff was super friendly, the food at breakfast and the restaurant were really good (the hibiscus juice is absolutely fantastic!). The whole hotel has been rebuild recently in ancient Stone Town style so it is a true piece of art and history. It is not uncommon to have other tourists stop by and ask permission to take photos of the beautiful doors and architecture. The bed was very comfortable so they must have changed things since the last comments two years ago. The hotel has a small but nice swimming pool. It also has a massage centre and can organize trips for the guests. It is also very well located to discover the old Stone Town We really enjoyed this hotel and would recommend it One fair warning however: it is right next to an historical mosque so if you are easily bothered by the calls for prayer (which for me is part of the experience when visiting Muslim countries) you might want to take ear plugs :-) P.S. I was looking at who posted bad comments on this hotel and was surprised to see 6 recent bad reviews from 6 people from Malta who said they all stayed in this hotel in Jan or Feb 2021. I was there in Feb 2021 and did not have at all the same experience. I wonder how truthfull these comments are... I never saw the people in the hotel during my stay so I wonder if they were even there!

Dear guest, Many thanks for your thorough and very positive comments about Princess Kholle's hideaway. We shall share them with our team. The House and its restaurant are indeed opened to whoever wishes to enjoy the genuine Swahili style that we tried to bring back to life in this old urban mansion. It is a fact that we have been recently harassed by a bunch of bad guys who posted a string of nasty comments against the House. As for the call of the muezzin around 5 a.m. there is little we can do about it. There are more than 50 mosques in the old city of Stone Town and one cannot escape from their calls. Let's say it's part of the exotic charm of the city. Many thanks again and good luck!
