Totally unique, I felt like a princess from days of yonder - if only I had a rich merchant husband so I just pretended that this was my palace (the story goes that this was the home of a rich merchant). The tall ceilings and open windows ensure breeze, and the place has a rich, safe feel to it. You...

On arriving the building oozes with mystery, a historical landmark in Stone Town that has been transformed into a picture book fairytale with every room in a different theme! The hotel was fairly central and the staff made every effort to make one feel at home!! The roof top restaurant is a must at sunset and for a breakfast that...

Russell and his staff couldn't have been more helpful during our stay. Delightful rooms, with a mix of Indian and Arabic style. Each room was different, we had a peek before the other guests arrived. Delicious food, highly recommend the rooftop restaurant with the tasting menu. The staff organised a guide, Solomon, to show us around Stone Town. The tour...

This hotel is absolutely fabulous. And Emerson Spice is probably the closest thing you come to a timecapsel ,I was transported hundred off years back.To a Sultan's palace. My room Turandot added to that feeling. It took me back to the stories my mom used to read for me from 1001 nights, and I felt like the Sultan's mistress in her...

This boutique hotel features a limited number of rooms, each with it's own theme. Rooms are spacious, nicely set up, with beautiful balconies and bathrooms that are quite roomy. I stayed in Aida which...

Knowing many properties on the island, the Emerson Spice offers the essence and beauty of the Zanzibari culture. It is worth staying a minimum of two nights to take the time to linger in the hotel and appreciate the attention to detail in design and service. The team is very welcoming, helpful and loving their job - we could feel...

First the rooms : they are gorgeous, well equiped well furnished and well decorated. In brief they are very charming. You can hear the noise of the pedestrian only streets from the rooms which can be charming and quite unique. The breakfast on the rooftop are really good with the nice view, and really healthy. The hotel has a very...

I can't imagine experiencing exotic Stone Town from any other locale than Emerson Spice. The ambiance of the hotel is magical, complimentary elements seamlessly melding the history, the architecture, the decor, and the locale. It brought to mind our stays in the riads of Fez and Marrakech. Phillip, the manager, and his efficiently attentive staff have faithfully maintained the essence...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
An inspired and lovingly restored Merchant’s House, this multi-storied small Boutique hotel has an inner courtyard, eleven unique antiques-filled rooms, and two of Zanzibar’s best restaurants. All rooms are equipped with a small fridge, air conditioner, fan, and high ceiling mosquito net. The rooftop ‘Tea House’ hosts one of Stonetown’s most renowned restaurants offering a stylish ambiance amidst the sound of the calls to prayer from the town’s many mosques. The five course ‘Taste Safari’, prepared daily by our Zanzibari chefs, is seafood based and celebrates the freshest and best the market has to offer each morning. The sunset hour is an integral and pleasurable part of the experience so diners are encouraged to arrive at around 6pm to enjoy a ‘Sundowner’ before dinner. On the Ground floor The Secret Garden, set amidst lushly landscaped hidden ‘Ruins’, open to the skies, has a Zanzibari inspired A La Carte Menu. Look out for live music performed by The Dhow Countries Music Academy. Open for Lunch and Dinner. ... more   less
