A great hostel with very friendly staff in the middle of stone town. We booked a room directly at the reception when we arrived at stone town. Staff was very friendly and we even got to meet the owner who recommended restaurants and special places to us around the hostel. Staff prepared our room within about 1 hour after we booked. The room had everything we needed and what you expect for the price (we booked a private room with private bathroom). The hostel offers rooms on 3 floors, a kitchen and a stylish lounge to chill at. I can highly recommend this hostel for everyone who wants to stay in the heart of stone town with all the cool stuff around the corner.

Stayed at a Z life hostel very recently and was very happy with my choice! It’s right in the centre of town, close to all the shops and really easy to get around. Location 👌. The owner was really friendly and gave us pointers on where to go as well. We spent a few evenings playing board games in the courtyard too, which was fun. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay at such a reasonable price :)
Thanks again! Next time I’m in Zanzibar, will be sure to stay here.

Stonetown is worth a visit and zlife i a good starting point to explore the city. Loved the people at zLife. I felt always welcome and homely :) It's located super central and the night food market is around the corner. Thanks Markus for being a great host!!

I’ve never written a bad review about anything in my life but the non-local manager Marcos was so utterly unfriendly, careless, and unaccommodating that I just want to let other people know about HIS service.

I had booked for three nights through Hostelworld but unfortunately could only stay for one night. I sent ZLife an email five days before my intended arrival to ask if my booking could be changed but they never responded. Two days later the free of charge cancellation period of Hostelworld had already passed and still no answer from ZLife. So I went by the hostel to ask what my options were. The manager Marcos said he had read my email but just didn’t respond even though, as he stated himself, there wasn’t a lot of work to do at the moment. When I asked if there was any possibility for me to just stay one night and have the deposit from Hostelworld deducted from the price, as I now wouldn’t get the deposit back upon cancelling, his answer was no (even though if they had responded to my email I could have cancelled in time free of charge). I could still stay the one night but it would be in addition to the deposit I already paid. Marcos just responded that I was free to cancel my booking and simply walked away without saying anything else.

I was really looking forward to my stay at ZLife because I heard a lot of great stories. My interaction with the rest of the (local) staff has been great, they were really friendly and accommodating but due to Marcos his attitude I ended up cancelling my entire booking even if it meant me losing my deposit through Hostelworld. I refuse to spend a dime in a place where this is their style of management.

We had a booking at zlife. We tried to check in late at night and they had given away our room despite have a credit card guaranteed booking. They then lied to the booking agent (online platform) that we were a no show so that we had no access to support, refund or rebooking. Finally, they refused to provide us any support in rebooking us a room. Be warned!

I enjoyed my stay here. The place was nice and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. They gave me amazing insights of places I could visit in Stone town, as well as Zanzibar. The location is great. It’s near an ATM and also a walking distance to the Forodhani night market. The place is surrounded by beautiful green plants. I would definitely recommend it.
